The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 295

Chapter 295 She’s Replaceable

Chapter 295 She’s Replaceable

Hannah watched as Chloe bolted out, her expression icy and distant. Still, deep down, Hannah couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness.

That afternoon, Hannah had already spotted two of Willow’s prescriptions in the drawer. Plus, the security camera in the west wing was aimed right at this spot, and it had clearly recorded Carolyn handing the prescriptions over to Chloe.

Hannah asked Chloe directly, just wanting to give her a chance to come clean.

If Chloe had owned up to it and promised it wouldn’t happen again, Hannah would’ve let it slide.

But Chloe chose to lie to her face.

Hannah felt a wave of disappointment and sadness. After all, they’d been friends for more than ten years. She always figured Chloe had her quirks, but at least she was someone Hannah could trust. Now, looking at things, Hannah realized she’d been mistaken.

“Chloe…” Joe tried to stop her, but she slipped right past him.

Worried, he turned to Hannah. “Hannah, I’m gonna go check on her.”

With that, he hurried after Chloe.

Carolyn was fuming. She was the one who’d been wronged, but somehow it looked like she was the bad guy picking on Chloe.

“Hannah, I really did give her the prescriptions! You have to believe me…” Carolyn blurted out, her voice full of anxiety.

“I know,” Hannah replied.

Carolyn was so relieved she burst into tears. “Thank you for believing me. I promise I’ll work even harder to make it up to you.”

She’d thought Hannah would never trust her, and had even braced herself for the worst, getting fired. But she never expected this.

“Just like I said when I hired you, work hard and you’ll get everything you deserve, pay, training, all of it,” Hannah said. “If you can’t keep up, you’re free to leave.”

Carolyn nodded so fast it looked like her head was on a spring. Yes, I understand. I promise I’ll work hard.”

“Getting hired by you is honestly the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to us. We’ll work hard and stick with you forever. Even if you chase me out with a broom, I’m not leaving. You’re stuck with me!” Elaine chimed in.

Everyone burst out laughing.

Hannah nodded, feeling genuinely pleased. She stood up. “It’s getting late. You should all head home and get some rest.”

“Okay, you should get some rest too,” Carolyn and Elaine replied.

Not long after Carolyn and Elaine left, Barnaby showed up.

He spotted Hannah busy with something in the north wing, and couldn’t help but smile. Seeing her sorting herbs in the cabinet, he walked over and slipped his arms around her from behind.

“Are you tired? Want to take a break and finish up tomorrow?” he asked.

Hannah turned, wrapped her arms around his waist, and buried her face in his chest. “I’m not tired. Once I finish up, Elaine can get straight to brewing medicine for the patients first thing tomorrow.”

Barnaby couldn’t help but notice Hannah was acting a little off today. Usually, if he interrupted her work, she’d just flash her needle at him as a warning. But now, she was being all clingy and affectionate.

“What’s up?” he asked, holding her close.

Hannah gave him a quick rundown of what happened that day. When Barnaby heard Chloe had stormed out, he couldn’t help but gloat.

“Awesome, baby! You finally got rid of that fake angel,” he said, grinning.

Hannah was speechless.

The next day, just like Hannah expected, Chloe didn’t show up for work.

Evelyn said Chloe hadn’t come home all night. Successfully unlocked! ht, but couldn’t find her anywhere. He kept calling, but she never picked up.

It wasn’t until midnight that he finally got a text from her, saying she needed some time alone and telling him not to look for her. After that, her phone was just switched off.

Joe was pissed. He couldn’t believe Chloe would act like this. Se messed up, but instead of owning up to it, she just

disappeared and wouldn’t let anyone find her.

So, he stopped looking for her. He figured he’d just wait for her get over her tantrum and come back to apologize. But a whole day went by, and the next day, Chloe still hadn’t come back. She didn’t show up at the clinic either.

Evelyn was really worried. She’d practically raised Chloe herself and she cared about her a lot.

She turned to Hannah. “Anna, Chloe still hasn’t come back after wo days and nights. Do you think something might’ve happened to her? She doesn’t really have any friends in Kinswood…”

As she mentioned friends, Evelyn suddenly remembered that friend Chloe was always going to see. She turned to Joe.” Joe, do you know who that friend Chloe was always talking about?”

“Chloe never told me who it was,” Joe said, shaking his head.

Then Joe suddenly remembered seeing Chloe get out of Darren’s car last time. ‘Could she have gone to see him?’ he wondered to himself.

“Still can’t get through, and she’s not replying to messages. Could something have happened? Should we call the police?” Evelyn said, hanging up and looking at Hannah.

“She’s an adult and can make her own choices. If she doesn’t want to come back, even if you forced her home, she’d just leave again,” Hannah replied coolly, turning to interview candidates.

Seeing this, Evelyn realized how much Chloe’s actions hurt her, so she didn’t bring it up again.

Joe suspected Chloe might have gone to see Darren, which made him even more upset, but since he wasn’t sure, he kept quiet and said nothing to Hannah.

After that, Chloe seemed to disappear. She never returned to the clinic.

*****

Chloe thought leaving would have a huge impact on the clinic.

She’d always managed the herbal meals, so without her, patients wouldn’t get their regular medicine. She figured Hannah would come begging her to come back in three days, and by then, the whole prescription mess would just blow over.

But she totally underestimated how ruthless Hannah really was

Hannah and the others didn’t even bother looking for her. The clinic was packed, and there was a long line of people waiting to snag the herbal chef job.

Even people like Jonathan Whitmore, the director of Starlake General Hospital in Brynlock, and Percival Nox from the Reese family showed up, plus a bunch of other famous folks from the medical world. Just grab anyone from that crowd and they’ d do her job just fine.

Chloe stood by the hotel window, watching the lively clinic across the street. She felt both annoyed and strangely relieved. ‘Darren was right. I’m not the only one Hannah needs. Good thing I picked the Reese family when I did,’ Chloe thought. ‘Hannah, you must’ve been planning to replace me for ages, huh? After all I did for you, this is how you treat me. If you’re going to be cold, don’t blame me for being unforgiving, Chloe mused, her gaze growing icy.

Her gaze grew icy as these thoughts ran through her mind.

*****

Just like that, it was the 30th.

Hannah actually got up early for once. After double-checking that the two new herbal chefs had prepped the medicine right, she let Evelyn know she’d be out for a bit. She’d just called a car and was about to head out when Barnaby blocked her at the door.

“Where are you going?” he asked.

Hannah never got up early for no reason. Barnaby knew something was off, she was acting way out of character today. Barnaby still remembered the note Hannah had brought back the last time she went out. He’d even sent someone to keep watch at the koi pond in Stoneview Park every day, but Hannah Hadn’t shown up once. Barnaby thought to himself, ‘Guess today’s the day!’

Hannah didn’t want him tagging along, so she made up an excuse. “A friend asked me to go shopping with her.” The note from Allen only said the 30th, no specific time. Hanna figured he’d be there all day, so she could show up whenever she wanted.

“I’ll come with you. I can pay for everything and carry your bags Barnaby said, opening the back door and sliding in. Hannah was speechless.

‘What’s up with him? Why is he suddenly so clingy?’ Hannah the light, a little exasperated.
