Chapter 300 It’s Supposed To Hurt

Barnaby’s face was cold as ice, and you could almost see the storm brewing behind those deep eyes

‘She really lied to me and snuck off to meet that psycho Spencer Barnaby thought, his fury barely contained

Barnaby’s stare made Hannah’s heart skip a beat. She had no clue that when he said he was heading out, he was actually coming to Nocturne Grand

Now she was caught red-handed.

She had no idea when Barnaby had shown up or how much he’d heard, but with that icy look on his face and the tension you could feel in the air even from meters away, there was no mistaking it. He was pissed

She was scrambling for an excuse, desperate to stop these two from throwing down like last time if a fight really broke out in a hotspot like this, forget waiting till tomorrow. They’d blow up online before midnight.

“Come here,” Barnaby said, his lips barely moving as he spat out the words, voice icy as hell

Right then, Spencer, never one to back down from drama, threw his arm around Hannah’s shoulders and gave Barnaby a

smug, provocative grin. “Since you caught us, there’s nothing left to hide. That’s right, we’ve joined forces”

“Who said I agreed to that?” Hannah snapped, shoving his arm away and making it clear she wanted nothing to do with him.

Spencer just grinned, totally unfazed. “You already took the USB drive.”

Hannah felt Barnaby’s icy stare zero in on the USB drive in her hand, and suddenly it was like she was holding a hot potato

She realized Spencer had played her again.

Most people get screwed over by their dads, but for Hannah, it was always Shadow messing with his own apprentice

Spencer kept up the flirting, his voice dripping with mischief. “You don’t know how to tell him? Let me do it for you…”

“Shut up!” Hannah snapped, cutting him off.

‘I swear, I wish I could just sew his lips shut so he’d finally shut up for good, Hannah thought.

She actually tried to clamp her hand over Spencer’s mouth, but he leaned back out of reach, showing off how much taller he was. Then he pulled her in by the waist and grinned, “Hands won’t cut it. Guess you’ll have to use your mouth.

Barnaby’s eyes locked onto Spencer’s hand on Hannah’s waist, his gaze so cold and menacing it felt like the temperature in the room had dropped ten degrees.

Just as Barnaby was about to step forward, Hannah’s eyes flashed with determination. She grabbed Spencer’s shoulders. caught him totally off guard, and kneed him right where it hurts.

“Ow!” Spencer doubled over, clutching his crotch, sweat breaking out on his forehead from the pain. “Damn, that was brutall My sex life is over…”

Hannah brushed off her hands, looking totally unfazed, then turned to Barnaby and put on her best innocent act. Barnaby, he’s bullying me.”

Spencer stared after her, dumbfounded. ‘For real? Who’s bullying who here?’ he thought.

Barnaby stopped in his tracks. Just looking at that made him wince in sympathy.

Seeing Hannah go that savage on Spencer actually made Barnaby’s frosty look thaw just a bit, but his tone was still cold as ever. “Does your knee hurt?”

Hannah nodded. “Yeah, it hurts!”

Spencer was left speechless, cursing inwardly, ‘Shit!’

Normally, Barnaby would’ve fussed over her, massaged her knee and scooped her up to take her home.

But this time, he didn’t do any of that. His voice was cold as ice Good. Serves you right! Who told you to go behind my back and meet him?”

Hannah was speechless.

“Yep, he’s definitely mad, Hannah thought, feeling her heart drop

Just thinking about how every time Barnaby got pissed, she’d end up stuck in bed for days made Hannah even more

anxious.

She tried to keep her cool, putting on her best Successfully unlocked! et meeting I came here to see Candy, and he just happened to show up.”

Just as she finished talking, the door to a private room behind Barnaby suddenly opened, and out walked Candy Foster herself.

Speak of the devil.

Hannah thought, ‘Trust my bestie to have perfect timing. She tried to give Candy a quick wink, but instead of picking up on it, Candy bounced over, all smiles.

“Hannah, you’re here too! Why didn’t you tell me you were coming… Wait, did you get something in your eye? Why are you blinking so much? Want me to blow it out for you?” Candy asked, totally clueless.

Hannah just stared, lost for words.

‘Why do I even bother with a bestie this clueless?’ Hannah thought.

Barnaby gave her a frosty, ‘let’s see you wriggle out of this one’ look. “So, you were here to treat Candy, huh?”

“What are you talking about? I’m not sick…” Candy said, looking totally baffled.

With her lie exposed on the spot, Hannah just wanted to disappear.

Seeing Hannah clam up, Candy finally picked up on the weird vide between her and Barnaby. Barnaby looked like he could freeze the whole room with his glare.

“Barnaby, are you guys going back to the private room?” Candy asked, her voice tentative.

Barnaby didn’t bother replying. He just took Hannah by the wrist and headed straight for the elevator. His actions said it all, they were out of there.

Candy watched as Hannah meekly trailed after Barnaby, then glanced back at Spencer, still doubled over against the wall looking absolutely wrecked. Suddenly, it clicked. No wonder Hannah was being so well-behaved.

‘Guess Hannah’s got a real sense of self-preservation after all, Candy thought.

*****

Half an hour earlier, outside Nocturne Grand.

Joe found a parking spot, parked his car, and hopped out to use the restroom nearby. On his way back, he spotted a Lamborghini pulling up right in front of Nocturne Grand.

The doors swung open, and Chloe and Darren stepped out from opposite sides.

Chloe was rocking a Barbie-pink Dior dress, her crystal heels sparkling with every step. Her long hair flowed down her shoulders, and her makeup was flawless. She looked way more glamorous than usual, like she’d just stepped out of a magazine, a total transformation from her usual understated vibe.

She smiled brightly, linked arms with Darren, and walked into Nocturne Grand together.

Ever since Chloe had run out of the clinic bawling her eyes out, oe hadn’t been able to find her anywhere. He figured she’d show up after a few days, but she just disappeared off the face of the earth, her phone was always off, and she ghosted all his WhatsApp messages and texts.

After a while, Joe started to get seriously worried, wondering if something bad had happened. Who would’ve thought she’d actually end up with Darren!

“Chloe!” Joe shouted, about to go after her, but right then the vallet drove Darren’s car right in front of him, cutting him off. Chloe heard someone call her name and glanced back. When she saw Joe, her expression tightened and she frowned a

little.

“What’s up?” Darren asked, catching her reaction.

Chloe quickly tugged him toward the bar before he could turn around. “It’s nothing, I was just wondering where the valet was parking the car. Come on, let’s go in before they start wondering where we are.”

Darren just figured she was still a bit green, having grown up out in the sticks and not really seen much of the world, so he just brushed it off.

By the time Joe managed to get around the car, Chloe and Darren had already disappeared inside the bar. He hurried after them.

But the moment he stepped inside, the blinding lights and booring music slammed into him all at once. The place was packed, people everywhere, and just like that, Chloe and Darren had vanished from sight.

“Hey, handsome, what can I get you to drink?” A waiter spotted Him and came over, handing him a menu.

Joe had never set foot in a bar before, so when he glanced at the menu, he was totally lost. None of those fancy drink names made any sense to him. But when he saw the prices, he early choked. A single drink could cost over three hundred, and even the cheapest ones were still a hundred.

‘Are they trying to rob me or what?’ Joe thought, totally stunned

“I don’t drink. Where did those two who just walked in go? The girl’s my sister. I’m just here to find her,” Joe said, sounding

anxious.

The waiter caught his reaction and sneered, “If you can’t pay, then get lost. Here at Nocturne Grand, you gotta buy
