Hannah felt a bit helpless. Of course he overheard, just my luck can’t keep lying now, but seriously, if he was eavesdropping, why didn’t he catch the whole conversation? she grumbled to herself.
She hadn’t said a single word about forming any alliance with Spencer. It was all him spouting nonsenser
Still, she knew it was her own fault for lying to Barnaby in the first place. That’s what caused all this mess.
I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have lied to you. But if I’d told you the truth that I was going out to meet Spencer, you wouldn’t have let me go, would you?” Hannah reasoned with him.
Barneby’s gaze was heavy, and he didn’t answer, which was as good as admitting it.
Sesing he didn’t argue, Hannah continued, “But he’s my Shadow/in the hacking world. There’s still so much I need to learn from him. Tonight, I just went to get the code he owed me. As for that alliance, he was just talking nonsense. Don’t tell me even you fell for his tricks?
“Weren’t you two always just talking online before?” Barnaby sale, his tone cold and a little possessive.
Barnaby’s real meaning was, ‘If you could just talk online before, why do you suddenly have to meet up in person now? Barnaby couldn’t help but think, ‘It’s so obvious Spencer just wanted an excuse to see her. How can she not see through something so blatant?
And what, I’m not good enough for you now? Anything you want to learn, you could just ask me, you know,” Barnaby pressed, jealousy clear in his voice.
Hannah was lost for words.
Like I could actually tell him the real reason is I keep losing to him, and I just want to work my butt off and finally beat him for once, she thought.
Even though she was complaining in her head, she still went along with him. From now on, I’ll ask you for help, okay? Will a kiss make you forgive me?”
As she spoke, Hannah cupped his ridiculously handsome face and kissed him on the lips
Her apology and explanation took the edge off Barnaby’s anger Plus, Hannah almost never made the first move like this, and he was powerless to resist her He held the back of her head and deepened the kiss

She suddenly suspected that all that fuss was just to get her to toss the USB.
Seeing her keep quiet, Barnaby kept pushing, “Or you could just promise me you’ll never meet up with Spencer again!”
No way was she tossing the USB, and there was zero chance she’d stop seeing Spencer. Sure, he was like a whole different

offline compared to online, but he was still her Shadow, Her mentor, and she owed himn big time for everything he’d taught her.
Plus, they were about to team up for Thole Group’s new chip project. How could she possibly avoid him?
‘Barnaby’s just messing with me, throwing out these impossible demands, Hannah grumbled to herself.
“Barnaby, you’re seriously going overboard with the jealousy,” Hannah said, poking his shoulder. “Why not just wipe out every guy on the planet while you’re at it?”
Barnaby grabbed her hand, his eyes fixed on her, dark and intense, but there was a flicker of distraction, like his mind was somewhere else.
“I promise I won’t sneak around to see him or lie to you anymore But you have to promise, no more secrets between us, deal?” Hannah said softly.
Couples shouldn’t keep secrets from each other.
“Okay,” Barnaby replied.
Hannah noticed he seemed a little out of it and frowned. “What’s on your mind?”
Barnaby said, “You’ve got a point.”
Hannah was speechless.
Barnaby continued, “So I’m actually thinking about how feasible t’d be to just erase every other guy from the planet.”
Hannah was completely speechless.
As they were about to head back, Hannah suddenly remembered Joe. She was just about to call him to ask if he wanted to come with them.
Just then, the wail of an ambulance grew louder, getting closer and closer until it finally pulled up right outside Nocturne Grand.
Doctors and nurses got out, pushing a gurney as they rushed into the club. Hannah dialed Joe’s number, but he never answered.
She tried calling twice, but no one picked up. On the third try, someone finally answered, but it wasn’t Joe. It was Christopher.
“Hello? Hannah? Where the hell are you?” Shen snapped.
“What’s wrong?” Hannah asked, catching the urgency in his voice and the background noise.
She opened the car door and got out, her eyes immediately landing on the ambulance parked outside Nocturne Grand.
“Joe collapsed in the stairwell. I don’t know if he’s alive or dead. The ambulance just took him away,” Christopher said, his voice tight with worry.
‘So he was the one who called the ambulance, Hannah realized.
Hannah hung up and hurried toward the ambulance. Right then the nurse who’d rushed into Nocturne Grand came out, wheeling Joe out on a gurney, with Christopher following close behind.
As soon as Christopher spotted Hannah, he stormed over. “Where the hell have you been hiding? I’ve been freaking searching for you everywhere!”
Hannah frowned. “Ever heard of calling me?”
“Yeah, well, maybe if you hadn’t blocked my number in the first place!” Christopher shot back, still grumbling.
‘When did I even block him?’ Hannah thought, confused.
But when she checked her phone, sure enough, Christopher’s number was blocked. She turned around just in time to see Barnaby pulling up behind them in his car.
She hadn’t blocked him herself, and the only person who ever touched her phone was Barnaby.
‘Seriously, is he really that jealous? How childish can he get?’ Hannah grumbled to herself.
But now wasn’t the time to worry about that. The ambulance neded someone to ride along, so Hannah opened the back door of Barnaby’s car, grabbed her bag, and hurried over to get with the nurse.
Barnaby tailed the ambulance in his car.
When they got to Starlake General Hospital, the doctors quicklygured out Joe’s problem. He’d knocked his head, blacked out, and ended up with a moderate concussion.

Hannah gave him a few needles, and Joe slowly came around, but he was still pretty out of it from the concussion.
Hannah told him to rest up and that they’d deal with it tomorrow, then left the room.
Barnaby and Christopher were both outside the room.
Barnaby sat on a bench, his laptop on his knees, typing away at something.
“What happened?” Hannah asked Christopher.
“I have no clue. He said you were on the second floor, so I did a found delivering drinks up there, but I couldn’t find you, and then he disappeared too,” Christopher replied.
“It was Chloe,” Barnaby suddenly said.
