Chapter 303 Why Is He So Childish!
Hannah walked over to the computer, where a crucial clip from Nocturne Grand’s second-floor cameras was playing. Chloe was seen rushing out of the stairwell, looking totally panicked.
When the video finished, Barnaby closed it and switched back to his chat with Ronin, clicking open a few more short clips Ronin had sent over.
All of them were surveillance footage from Nocturne Grand. One showed Chloe walking in, arm in arm with Darren. Another had Joe on the second floor, delivering drinks with a waiter, then Chloe coming out and dragging him straight into the
stairwell.
The next clip was just a repeat of the one they’d watched before
There were no cameras inside the stairwell, so nobody knew what went down between them. But with Joe ending up with a moderate concussion, everyone was looking at Chloe like she was the main suspect.
Hannah watched the clip of Chloe walking into Nocturne Grand with Darren again. Chloe was dressed head to toe in designer brands, clearly living it up ever since she left the clinic.
If Chloe wanted to walk away, Hannah wouldn’t stand in her way But if Chloe ever hurt someone close to her, Hannah wouldn’t let her off the hook.
Christopher came over to watch the footage too. When he saw there was no clip of him with another woman, he let out a sigh of relief.
He hadn’t expected Barnaby to have already pieced most of it together in just a few minutes, while he was just standing around like a bystander.
‘No way. I can’t just let Barnaby show off while I stand here looking useless. I’ve got to prove I can pull my weight too,’ Christopher thought.
“So, what’s the plan? Should we just go and bring Chloe in?” Christopher rolled up his sleeves, ready to jump into action.
Hannah let out a lazy yawn. Barnaby glanced at the clock. It was already past midnight. He closed his laptop. “It’s late. Let’s get some rest and deal with this tomorrow.”
Christopher checked his watch, clearly disappointed. “It’s only twelve-thirty. The night’s just getting started. Why go home so early?”
Barnaby shot him a look. “Only sad singles need to be out partying all night.”
Christopher scoffed. “Ha, as if you’re not one of us…”
Before he could finish, he saw Barnaby’s arm slide around Hannah’s waist, and she didn’t even bat an eye.
If it were him, she’d probably turn him into a human pincushion the second his hand touched her waist.
Then it suddenly dawned on him. He yelled at Hannah, “Wait, didn’t you say you two broke up?”
Barnaby frowned. ‘Just how many people has she told we broke up?’ he thought.
He really needed to make things official with Hannah ASAP, before all these guys started circling around her like sharks.
“Keep your voice down, the patients are sleeping,” Hannah said, then tossed out, “We’re back together. If you’re bored, you can stick around and do night duty.”
She’d seen Christopher and Joe hanging out a lot before, always teaming up for basketball games. Having Christopher keep an eye on Joe was way better than leaving him with some random stranger.
But Christopher wasn’t having it. “Damn, what do you take me for? Your family’s night watchman?”
“No need for him,” Barnaby said as he pulled out his phone. “Romin, send someone over…”
Watching Barnaby handle everything, Christopher thought, ‘Great, if he keeps this up, I’ll just look even more useless around here.’
He immediately cut Barnaby off. “Forget your people, I’ll take the night shift myself!”
Muttering curses under his breath, he stormed into the hospital room.
Hannah was speechless.

On the way back, Hannah was so exhausted sl Successfully unlocked!er seat and quickly drifted off to sleep.
As she was dozing off, she felt a pair of strong as scoop herp. Darauy s gentle, low voice sounded in her ear, “Baby, we’re here.”
Still half-asleep, Hannah instinctively wrapped her arms around Barnaby’s neck and rested her head on his shoulder, continuing to sleep.

After a bit, she felt Barnaby set her down, then heard water running. He came back to help her out of her clothes.
Hannah grumbled, feeling cranky, “No…”
“Come on, sweetheart, let’s get you cleaned up before bed,” Baroby coaxed.
“I don’t want to. I’ll shower in the morning,” Hannah muttered, trying to push him away, but she was so sleepy her arms were like noodles.
“No way. You just got back from the hospital, there’s germs all over you. You’ve gotta shower before bed,’ Barnaby insisted.
Hannah thought, ‘Jeez, what a clean freak.’
Realizing she couldn’t win, Hannah just stopped resisting and le Barnaby wash her himself.
But as the shower went on, the mood between them totally changed…
Barnaby kept her up until three in the morning before she finally managed to get some real sleep. But she barely got any rest before her alarm went off at seven.
She woke up cranky, but since Joe was still stuck in the hospital she dragged herself out of bed. Barnaby had already gone out for his morning run.
‘Geez, does this guy ever run out of steam?’ Hannah grumbled to herself.
When Barnaby got back from his run, he brought breakfast with him. He walked into the kitchen and saw Hannah cooking.” Why aren’t you sleeping in? What are you making? I got you shrimp sandwich and crab roe bread.”
“Just making some porridge for Joe. I’ll take it over in a bit,” Hannah yawned.
She didn’t want her grandma to worry, so she didn’t ask the chef at the complex to make it.
Barnaby set his stuff down, washed his hands, and walked over “So, the day we’re supposed to go on a date, you’re up early cooking porridge for another guy?”
They were supposed to go on a date today, but with Joe in the Hospital, it got canceled and had to be rescheduled.
Hannah said, “Come on, Joe’s a patient right now.”
“You never made me porridge when I was sick,” Barnaby complained, his voice dripping with jealousy.
Hannah was lost for words.
‘Does this guy get jealous of literally everyone?’ she thought.
“Once it’s ready, you can have some first. I’ll bring the rest to Jo alright?” Hannah said.
Good thing she’d made extra.
“That’s more like it,” Barnaby said, giving her a quick kiss. “I’ll keep an eye on it. Go get some more sleep, and I’ll wake you when it’s ready.”
Hannah didn’t argue. She went back to bed and napped for another half hour before getting up to eat breakfast and head to the hospital.
*****
Joe was already awake, lying in bed trying to piece together what had happened last night.
He was in a VIP private room, and Christopher was crashed out on the couch, but the noise from the hallway was keeping him from getting any real sleep.
Just then, the door swung open. Christopher, thinking it was a nurse doing rounds, snapped, “Can you people keep it down? Some of us are trying to sleep here…”
“Hey Joe, how are you feeling? I brought you some porridge, come on, sit up and have a little,” Hannah said, walking in with a thermos in hand.
Joe sat up, giving her a bashful smile. “Hannah, you’re here. Thanks a lot.”
Christopher perked up the moment he heard Hannah’s voice, shot off the couch, and hurried over when he saw her opening the thermos. “Wait, you made this? I want some too!”
Joe watched as his porridge was about to get snatched and quickly called out. “Seriously, man? You’re gonna fight a patient for food?”
Christopher grumbled, “Dude, I pulled an all-nighter with you! I’m exhausted!”
Joe fired back, “You were gaming the whole time! I couldn’t sleep with all your yelling!”
Hannah was lost for words.
Hannah, her head throbbing from their arguing, jumped in. “Cut out, both of you. Just eat together.” She’d made plenty anyway.

“Who wants to eat with him?” Christopher and Joe both shot back at the same time.
But the very next second, each of them grabbed a bowl and took a spoonful. Damn, that was salty.
“Why is this so salty?” Christopher immediately spat it out. “It’s ke chewing on pure salt! This is a total kitchen nightmare!”
Joe winced at the taste, his face scrunching up. He’d had Hannah’s cooking before. This was way off her usual game.
“Salty? Really?” Hannah looked baffled.
‘Seriously? Barnaby had a bowl before I left and didn’t say a thing about it being salty, she thought.
“Man, it’s super salty,” Joe said, putting his bowl down and chugging a whole glass of water from his nightstand. Hannah hadn’t believed Christopher at first, but with Joe saying the same, she couldn’t deny it anymore.
Then it hit her. Barnaby had told her to go back to sleep this morning, saying he’d handle the cooking for her…
No wonder Barnaby said he had something to take care of and didn’t come up with her when they got to the hospital.
‘Why is he so childish!’ Hannah thought.
