Chapter 306 Bringing Their Own Doom

In the treatment room, Hannah Carter and Percival Nox were working around a silicone dummy marked with acupuncture points. Next to them sat a medical simulator, its screen displaying a human model with data tailored to Barnaby Thole’s condition.

After more than a week of research and discussion, Hannah had finally settled on a treatment plan for Barnaby. This was a pre-treatment simulation.

Hannah inserted the last needle into the crucial point on the dummy. After a moment, all the red dots marking key acupuncture points on the screen turned green.

“We did it!” Percival said, barely able to contain his excitement.

Hannah walked over to the monitor to check the data, a smile tugging at her lips. “This plan works. Next time, we can go straight to the real treatment.”

As she spoke, she turned and gave Percival a high-five.

Evelyn, who had been watching from the side, smiled warmly. “Hannah, you just keep getting more amazing.”

Just as the three of them were celebrating, they heard a commotion outside. It was Christopher, one of the assistants, returning with Joe.

Hannah stepped out into the hall and saw Joe, soaked to the bone, with bloody bite marks on his arm. She turned to Percival and said, “Percival, it’s getting late. You should head home. Thanks for your hard work.”

Seeing that they had things to deal with, Percival took his leave.

“See? When it really counts, you gotta rely on me! I said I’d bring him back, and I delivered, right on the dot,” Christopher boasted, thumping his chest as he spoke to Hannah.

“Not bad,” Hannah replied, casually fishing something out of the cabinet and tossing it to him. “Consider this your reward.”

It was rare for Hannah to give him anything, so Christopher snatched it up eagerly, only to find it was a packet of Cold Remedy.

He instantly exploded. “What the hell? Who are you trying to fool here?”

“You got soaked in the rain. Watch out for a cold. If you’ve got nothing else to do, quit hanging around and go home to sleep early,” Hannah said coolly.

Christopher only then noticed his left shoulder was soaked. “I’m tough as nails! There’s no way a little rain could make me catch a cold… Achoo!”

He sneezed right after he finished speaking.

Hannah was left speechless.

Hannah teased, “If you don’t want a shot, you’d better hurry home and take a hot shower.”

With Barnaby not around for once, Christopher had been planning to hang out a bit longer. But as soon as he heard the

word “shot,” his butt barely touched the chair before he dashed out the door.

“Joe, did you get in a fight?” Evelyn asked, clueless about what had happened. She grabbed some disinfectant and cotton swabs, then went over to clean up the bite on Joe’s arm.

Joe just looked miserable and kept quiet.

“Did you see Chloe?” Hannah asked as she made him a cup of ginger tea and handed him a towel. “Here, dry off.”

“Yeah,” Joe muttered, towel over his head and ginger tea in his hands, still looking down

Hannah wasn’t much for comforting, so she just gave his shoulder a gentle pat

“So Chloe’s really staying with the Reese family and she’s not coming back for good?” Evelyn asked, finishing up bandaging Joe’s arm, then realized Chloe was the one who hurt him.

After finishing his ginger tea, Joe briefly told them what happened with Chloe.

After what happened with Susie, Evelyn was more emotionally prepared this time, but she still felt uneasy and couldn’t help but sigh.

Hannah, on the other hand, let out a cold laugh

Hannah glanced at the time and said, “Since this is Chloe’s choice, she knew what she was getting into. Don’t dwell on it Go get some rest. You’ve got an early meeting tomorrow’

Chapter 306 Bringing Their Own Doom

The next day, at the monthly meeting, after Elaine finished her report, she brought up an issue.

“Hannah, neither Frances nor Gary delivered any herbs this month. We’re already out of hasrna and turtle shell, and we’re running low on cuttlefish bone and white snail shell. But a few antients need these ingredients for their prescriptions,” Elaine said.

“What’s up with that?” Hannah asked, stifling a yawn.

“I called them, and they said the harvest was bad this month, plus all the rain, so there’s nothing to send. I also tried a few backup suppliers, but none of them have any of those four herbs either,” Elaine replied honestly

Most of the clinic’s herbal medicine supplies came from regular suppliers. Frances and Gary had always delivered top- quality herbs, so they were basically the main suppliers.

But to avoid getting caught off guard by sudden shortages, the clinic also kept a few backup suppliers on the list.

If one supplier didn’t have what they needed, they’d just hit up another. But this time, something fishy was going on. Those four herbs might be rare, but it’s not like they should be completely out everywhere.

“I just checked with my previous employer. They don’t have any of those four herbs either,” Vicky said.

She and Kathleen were both new herbalists brought in after Chloe was gone.

“I was checking out the Heaven Medical Network forum, and there’s a rumor going around that the Reese family bought up all four of those herbs from every supplier on the mainland, paying three times the usual price,” Kathleen said.

As soon as she said that, the whole meeting room fell silent.

Everyone instantly realized what was going on.

It had to be Chloe.

She used to handle the herbal supplies, so she knew exactly what was in stock. Hasma and turtle shell, for example, were

used all the time.

Hasma was used to nourish the lungs and tonify the kidneys, and was especially good for treating chronic, deficiency- related coughs.

Turtle shell helped unblock energy pathways, drove out wind and dampness, and was used for rheumatic pain, stroke- induced paralysis, and childhood polio symptoms.

Most of the patients who came here had complicated or hard-to-treat illnesses, especially rheumatism. That’s why these two herbs were in high demand and got used up fast.

Once they were out of stock, patients couldn’t get the medicine they needed, their recovery would slow down, and the clinic’ s reputation would take a hit.

Joe sat at the edge of the table, fists clenched tight under the surface, trying hard not to lose his cool.

Evelyn looked troubled. Ever since Chloe left, she’d always worried about her. Hearing that Chloe had gone to the Reese family hurt in ways she couldn’t even describe, she’d practically raised Chloe herself.

And now, finding out Chloe wasn’t just staying with the Reese family, but actually going head-to-head with them… Evelyn was hit so hard by anger and heartbreak that everything went dark and she slumped over to the side.

“Grandma!” Hannah cried out.

“Ms. Carter!” the others shouted in alarm.

Hannah sprang up and reached out to steady her, while Carolyn and the rest hurried over to help.

Hannah checked Evelyn’s pulse, deep, wiry, and slippery. She frowned, and together, they gently helped Evelyn into a room in the west wing and laid her down.

“Is Ms. Carter alright?” Joe asked, worry written all over his face

“She was just a bit shaken up, and her blood pressure’s been high,” Hannah said, pressing a spot above Evelyn’s upper lip. Carolyn, grab my acupuncture kit.”

Joe pressed his lips together and stepped aside.

“On it,” Carolyn said, quickly bringing over the kit.

Hannah gave Evelyn a few quick needles, and she woke up soon after. Hannah told her to rest for a bit, then headed back out to wrap up the meeting.

“How about I go check the local Tonzic Medical and see if they Have any hasma or turtle shell? I can pick up a little, just to get us through in a pinch. There are two patients who need them today,” Elaine suggested.
