Hannah pulled the phone away from her ear. “How’s the ingredient hunt going over there?”

But even as she said that, she hung up and opened a WhatsApp video call.

Hearing her half-hearted answer, Barnaby knew she was probably skipping meals and staying up late again.

‘This girl’s such a workaholic. Once she gets busy, she tunes everything else out. I really need to wrap things up here and get back to keep an eye on her, Barnaby thought.

While they were chatting, Lucian’s call popped up, interrupting the video.

“Go get some sleep, I’ve got to take this call. Night!” Hannah said to Barnaby.

She picked up Lucian’s call and heard him speaking in a low, cautious tone, “Can you hear me, Hannah?”

His voice sounded strange, and Hannah frowned. “What’s wrong? Are you somewhere you can’t talk?”

Lucian said quietly, “Yeah…”
