Before dragging Allen into the mess, Eleanor had made sure to send away all the nearby security guards. It was the perfect opportunity to strike.

After barely surviving that ordeal in the water, Kyson was now genuinely afraid of Hannah.

‘This woman-she’d really finish me off if she wanted to!’ he thought.

Seeing Kyson back down, Eleanor jumped in to defend him. “Quit twisting things and making up stories! You were the one who kicked Kyson and dragged him into the water, and now you’re trying to pin it all on him!”

“Are you done running your mouth?” Hannah shot her a frosty glare over her shoulder. “If you’re so tough, why didn’t you get in the water and save him yourself?”

Eleanor choked for a second. “You’ve got a sharp tongue, I can’t outtalk you. But don’t think you can come into my Thole family and stir up drama!”

“Alright, Eleanor, that’s enough!” Mabel snapped, cutting her off “Seriously, how did both of them end up in the lake out of nowhere?”

“Martha?” Vera glanced over at Martha, who was standing off to the side.

Martha was the only witness to what had happened.

“Kyson and Allen started fighting by the lake and ended up falling in,” Martha said.

“I’m not sure how the whole thing started. Eleanor said Howard had given her a pair of earrings and she’d dropped one in the garden, so she asked me to help her look for it. When I got back, Kyson was stuffing mud into Allen’s mouth, and the next thing I knew, they both tumbled into the lake.”

When Vera heard about how Kyson had bullied Allen, her eyes welled up with tears. She couldn’t tell if it was anger or heartbreak that made her feel this way.

“And what about you guys?” Mabel turned to the security guards nearby. “Why did it take so long for anyone to help Allen after he fell in? The Thole family hired you to keep everyone safe”

“We were all busy helping Third Lady look for her earring, so we didn’t notice anyone had fallen in,” the security captain said, hanging his head.

When Eleanor noticed all eyes on her, her gaze flickered and she pulled a gold earring from her pocket.

“Well, I found it. Howard gave it to me for our anniversary, I was reaking out when I lost one, so I got everyone to help me search for it. Just as we found it, I heard someone yelling, so I rushed over with everyone,” Eleanor said.

Trying to deflect suspicion, Eleanor deliberately added, “Come to think of it, Martha, isn’t it strange? Why did you bring Allen over here? And where’s Maria?”

Seeing them bully Allen just because he was “slow”, and Allen not even fighting back, Hannah couldn’t help but feel both respect and pain for him.
