Chapter 339 Fight Fire With Fire
Chapter 339 Fight Fire With Fire
Hannah handed Evelyn over to Joe, who was waiting in the hallway. “Joe, take Grandma to the car first.”
“Got it,” Joe replied.
Evelyn looked worried. “Anna…”
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle it,” Hannah said softly, giving her a reassuring hug.
Evelyn finally relaxed and left with Joe.
Hannah and Raymond went into a room that Crane had cleared out.
“Ms. Carter, I’m really sorry for all the trouble we’ve caused you,” Raymond said, sounding genuinely apologetic.
Hannah was getting impatient. “So, are you the designated apologizer for the Reese family now?”
“I didn’t lead the Reese family well back then, and that’s why all these problems happened. I owe you an apology,” Raymond said.
As he spoke, Raymond pulled out a file. “Here’s the information you wanted. I was planning to have Evelyn bring it to you, but I never expected my wife would create such a misunderstanding and hurt Evelyn in the process. I’m really sorry.”
Hannah took the file, gave it a quick look-it was Eleanor’s surgery records, with a tape inside. She kept it for herself. “Handle your own family’s mess. And don’t drag my grandma into this again,” Hannah tossed out the words, then turned and left with the file.
With all the juicy gossip blowing up online, the Reese family was in for a wild ride.
As for what Catherine did to Evelyn, someone was bound to settle the score with her.
Raymond followed Hannah all the way to the parking lot, opening his mouth as if to speak, but he had a lot to say and didn’t know where to start.
He looked over at Evelyn in the car, but she refused to meet his eyes, turning away and ignoring him completely.
The car door shut, and they melted into the crowd.

Meanwhile, Catherine was being dragged out of the police station by Gavin and shoved into the car.
Catherine kept cursing and yelling at Gavin, demanding he let her out.
Gavin ignored everyone except Raymond’s orders. He locked the doors and windows, started the car, and drove straight back to the Reese family’s house.
Catherine was fuming. She pulled out her phone, about to call Raymond, when she noticed a bunch of missed calls. Right then, Darren’s call came through.
As soon as she answered, Darren’s urgent voice blasted through the line. “Grandma, where are you? Dad just passed out because of the trending topics on Twitter!”
Catherine was still clueless about what was happening with the Reese family. ‘Wasn’t the trending topic just the scandal l paid to push about Evelyn?’ she thought.
‘Wait, did they actually expose Raymond as Evelyn’s rumored boyfriend?’ Catherine wondered.
“How did he end up passing out from rage? Is he alright?” she asked.
Darren said urgently, “Twitter is flooded with news about our family! They exposed you for buying trending topics, the whole thing with Chloe, and even the organ donation mess-everything blew up at once! Reporters have surrounded our home, the office, and the hospital. Even the shareholders are caught up in it. Reese Medical’s stock crashed-it’s hit rock bottom.”
“What?!” Catherine was stunned.
‘Why is the Reese family all over Twitter?
‘Wasn’t it supposed to be Evelyn’s scandal trending?’ she thought, totally confused.
She threw on her reading glasses and pulled up Twitter. The whole trending page was packed with juicy gossip about the Reese family-you couldn’t even find a trace of Evelyn’s scandal anywhere.
Catherine stared at the trending topics, and he Successfully unlocked!t her eyes nearly went out of focus.
“Mrs. Reese, are you okay?” Gavin glanced at Camene in the review minor, noticing she looked pale. He quickly pulled over and slowed the car down.
Catherine scrambled through her purse, snatched up her hearteds, and popped a few pills without even bothering with water. Only after a while did she finally calm down.

“Hannah!” she spat, her teeth clenched in fury
There was no one else Catherine could think of who would dare go after the Peese farrely like this-only Hannah She immediately called Raymond. “Raymond, look at what that litle bitch you’re protecting has done to our family Raymond already knew about the Twitter mess. His voice was law and serious “Instead of arguing, maybe you should figure out how to fix this! If you’d known it would come to this, you never should’ve messed with them in the first placer
“Are you serious right now? You’re still taking their side?!”
Catherine was about to keep arguing with Raymond, but he hung up on her. Right then, their car was cut off by several men in black, who blocked their way.
“Get out!” one of them snapped.
Gavin refused, so the men smashed the window and hauled him out of the car. Then, three of them piled into the vehicle
Catherine, panicking, stammered, “What are you-”
Before she could finish, someone clamped a cloth over her mouth. Whatever was on it hit her fast, and she blacked out almost instantly.
The men in black took the wheel and sped off, abducting Catherine.
An hour later, Catherine slowly came to, groggy and disoriented.
She found herself in an abandoned factory, and right next to her was another woman, tied up just like her, with a DSLR camera hanging around her neck.
Catherine recognized her-it was the photographer she’d hired that morning to take pictures of Evelyn.
“Mrs. Reese, what’s going on?” the photographer mumbled, still half-asleep and totally confused to see Catherine there.
Just then, a bald guy swaggered in with a few goons behind him
Both women looked terrified the moment they saw them.
“What do you want?” Catherine demanded, her voice low and terise.
“Aren’t you all about those racy photos? Well, we’ll make sure you get more than enough to shoot, the bald guy sneered
With a flick of his wrist, two of his men lunged forward and tore Catherine’s clothes off in seconds.
“Who gave you the guts to mess with me? Even I’m not off limits now? Let me go! Is there no order left in this world?” Catherine shouted, her voice trembling with rage as she struggled.
But she was just an old lady-her frail body was no match for two burly men, and her resistance was useless.
“Start shooting!” one of the men in black snarled, brandishing his knife at the terrified photographer.
The photographer had only signed up for this gig for the money, but now, with her life on the line, she had no choice but to obey.
‘Mrs. Reese, I’m so sorry, I’m being forced here too…” she whimpered, raising her DSLR with shaking hands and pointing it at Catherine.
That morning at the hotel, Catherine had been grinning from ear to ear, watching Evelyn get humiliated with those fake” artistic photos”. Now, karma had come for her, and she was feeling every bit of that pain herself.
Hannah brought Evelyn back to their condo. Worried that Evelyn might be feeling down or dwelling on things, she decided to stick around for a while and keep her company.
That evening, Hannah gave the cook and maid the night off, and personally made Evelyn’s favorite stuffed trio for her Joe and Evelyn weren’t ones to just sit idle, so they jumped in to help out too.
After they finished chopping up the meat and were getting ready to make stuffed bitter melon, the doorbell rang
“Joe, can you get the door? It’s probably Candy, Hannah said.
Candy called Hannah on their way home to check in on Evelyn. Since she was free, Hannah told her to come over for dinner. Joe nodded, set down the washed bitter melon, and went to open the door.
“I came to see Fairy Sis and Grandma!” But when the door swung open, it was Joel standing there instead
He was holding a bouquet of white roses in one hand and a fruit basket in the other. The moment he saw it was Joe instead of Hannah, his grin vanished. “Seriously? It’s you? Where’s Fairy Sis?”
“Hannah’s in the kitchen cooking…
Before Joe could finish, Joel shoved the fruit basket into his hands and marched right in, clutching the white roses.
“Where’s the kitchen…” Joel mumbled, but he found it in no time He popped his head in the doorway, grinning wide. “Hey.

“Grandma Evelyn, I brought you some fruit-handpicked, low-sugar, so you can snack without worry. And these white roses are for Hannah, the fairy herself. I’ll put them away for you,” Joel said with a cheeky grin, making sure Hannah couldn’t turn
him down.
“You really didn’t have to go to all that trouble,” Evelyn chuckled, clearly entertained. “Anna whipped up a mountain of stuffed bitter melon and eggplant, way more than we can eat. Why don’t you stay and help us finish it?”
Joel grinned. “Well, I’ll take you up on that… Anything I can do to help out? Just let me know!”
Hannah set down the bitter melon, washed her hands, and added two more cups of rice to the rice already soaking in the rice cooker. Joel might look tall and skinny, but he could really put away a lot of food.
“Hey, don’t forget about me-I want dinner too!” Christopher suddenly called out from the living room, sounding all cocky.
He burst in at a run, his fruit basket swinging wildly, fruit practically spilling everywhere.
“What, you got
dog chasing you or something? Why the mad dash?” Hannah teased. Just as she finished, Spencer strolled in, also carrying a fruit basket.
“Hey, who are you calling a dog, kid?” Spencer said, his voice cold and mocking.
Hannah was speechless.
It was totally an accident.
“Nice catch!” Christopher smirked, clearly loving the chaos.
He’d just parked downstairs when he saw Spencer pulling in too so he hurried to park and raced upstairs, trying to get there before Spencer did.
Spotting Hannah in an apron, Spencer smirked, “Cooking, huh? Since you’re already at it, why not whip up a portion for your master as well? I’ll let it go that you called me a dog.”
Hannah was frozen, her mind blank.
‘Why is everyone suddenly mooching off my cooking?
‘I definitely didn’t buy enough groceries for this crowd!’ she groaned inwardly.
Still, she quietly headed back to the kitchen and added three more cups of rice to the cooker. She’d barely added the water when Spencer started calling out his order.
“I want dumplings-shepherd’s purse filling, and don’t you dare serve me instant noodles again!” he demanded.
Not to be outdone, Christopher chimed in, “I want crispy shrimp and braised pork belly!”
Hannah felt a vein twitch on her forehead.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, don’t get carried away!” Joel protested. “Hannah’s cooking for me, not for you guys. If you want to freeload, at least check with Grandma first!”
Then, without missing a beat, he added, “And on Grandma’s behalf, I’m saying nope!”
Evelyn couldn’t help but laugh. It was such a rare treat to have the house this lively, and with all of Hannah’s friends here. she was genuinely delighted. The bad mood from earlier at the police station just melted away.
“Everyone, stay for dinner,” she said warmly, then turned to Joe with a smile. “Looks like we might not have enough food. Joe, be a pal and run out to grab some more groceries, will you?
Joel was speechless.
Joe answered and headed out to buy some groceries.
“Thanks, Grandma!” Christopher chimed in, playing the good guy after scoring a free meal. Spotting the potatoes on the counter, he put on his most helpful face and asked, “Grandma, do these need peeling? I can do it for you!”
“Hey, that’s supposed to be my job!” Joel protested, darting back into the kitchen as soon as he saw his task getting snatched away.
Seeing the two of them competing to help out, Spencer joined the suck-up contest too. He’d heard Barnaby could cook, so no way was he letting himself get shown up. “Guess I’ll handle the greens,” he said, stepping up.
“Alright, alright!” Evelyn said with a big smile, hang for you t

Hannah stared at the potatoes, peeled into oblivion, the greens angled beyond recognition, and the seasonings in utter chaos. Hannah, usually the picture of calm, felt a vein throb on her forehead.

“You’ve got ten seconds out of my kitchen, all of you!” Hannah parked
The three guys exchanged glances, and Joel was the first to scramble out.
Joel thought, ‘Hannah’s pissed. If I don’t get out now, she’s gonna toss me out on my ear.’
Christopher was next. ‘Man, she’s scary… but that’s kinda hot!’
Spencer thought, ‘Just give me thirty more minutes, I know I can nail this! If Barnaby can do it, no way I can’t!
Then Joel and Christopher teamed up and hauled him out together.
Candy showed up not long after, both hands full of gift boxes. Spotting the three guys hanging out in the living room, she blinked in surprise. “Whoa, what’s with the crowd? Everyone’s here!”
She marched straight into the kitchen. “Hannah, Grandma, I’m here! I brought all sorts of seafood-crawfish, lobster, abalone, fish maw, sea urchin, you name it. Let’s go all out with seafood feast tonight!”
“Wow, you brought so much!” Evelyn laughed. “Joe just went out for more groceries. With everyone here, we’ll have no problem finishing it all.”
When Candy found out all three guys were sticking around for dinner, she came out and gave them a hard time.
“Why are you all just standing there, not helping out? No wonder Hannah’s not into you guys. Barnaby’s the real deal-he can charm in the living room and crush it in the kitchen. He’s go Hannah totally hooked with his cooking!”
The three guys, freshly booted from the kitchen, could only sulk and keep quiet.
Just then, the doorbell rang again. Candy went to open it. “Hey, Felicity, Aurelia, you guys are here too! Come on in and have a seat.”
Aurelia and Felicity stepped inside. Felicity hadn’t expected such a crowd and looked a bit awkward.
Hannah came out when she heard the voices. “Mom, what brings you guys here?”
“Your grandma saw the news and wanted to come check on Evelyn. I didn’t want her coming alone, so I came with her,” Felicity said quietly.
Hannah was a bit surprised and glanced at Aurelia, who didn’t seem bothered at all. She just walked in like she owned the place, carrying her things straight to the kitchen to find Evelyn.
“Hey, Evelyn, I came to hang out with you! Mind if I crash here for a few days? I want to check out Kinswood,” Aurelia said with a grin.
Evelyn was a bit taken aback, but she knew better-Aurelia might say she just wanted to hang out, but Evelyn could tell she was really here to keep her company.
She understood in her heart that everyone dropping by today was probably because they’d all seen the news and wanted to
show her some love.
A warm rush filled Evelyn’s heart, and her eyes grew misty.
Ever since her daughter passed away, Evelyn only had Hannah left by her side. And even then, they weren’t even related by blood-they’d been swapped at birth. Her real granddaughter not only refused to recognize her, but even got mixed up with loan sharks and left Evelyn drowning in debt.
If it hadn’t been for Hannah, Evelyn might not have made it this far, let alone have all these people looking out for her now.
“Oh, Evelyn, what’s got you all teary-eyed?” Aurelia fished out a tissue and dabbed at her friend’s cheeks. “Don’t let Hannah catch you crying, or she’ll think I’ve been bullying you. Seriously if you don’t want me hanging around, I’ll just book a hotel instead.”
“No, no, it’s nothing-I’m just really moved. Thank you, all of you Evelyn said, wiping her eyes. “Stay as long as you want. Chloe’s room is free, you can take it.”
“That’s exactly what I was hoping for. I’ll make myself right at home, then,” Aurelia grinned.
The house was unusually lively-a rare treat. The guys were ching in the living room, sipping tea and chatting, while the ladies were all busy in the kitchen.
Felicity was kneading dough and rolling out dumpling wrappers and even at her age, Evelyn was chopping up the filling like a pro. Hannah finished frying up the stuffed bitter melon, eggplant, and zucchini, then jumped in with Candy and Aurelia to learn how to wrap dumplings. Everyone was laughing and chatting away-the whole place was buzzing with good vibes.
Once the dumplings were all wrapped, Felicity started cooking them. Aurelia glanced around, noticed Barnaby still hadn’t shown up, and said,
“Hey, is Barnaby still caught up with work? Hannah, give him a call and tell him to drop everything and come straight over for dinner when he’s done.”
“Don’t worry about him,” Hannah said.
