Chapter 77

Chapter 77

Daisy opened her medical kit, preparing a syringe which she administered to Malcolm. With practiced efficiency, she continued her ministrations until at last, Malcolm began to stir.

“Grandpa!” Lauren breathed, rushing to his bedside and grasping his hand.

“What… what happened?” Malcolm mumbled, his bleary eyes slowly scanning the room.

“Malcolm! Thank goodness you’re awake.” Gemma moved closer, gently displacing Lauren as she leaned toward the elderly

man.

“You gave us quite a scare. You fainted and wouldn’t wake up. We have Daisy to thank for her help.” She made no mention of how the Baker family scandal had triggered his collapse, carefully avoiding the sensitive subject.

“Thank you, Daisy.” Malcolm’s gaze found the young woman.

“My pleasure, sir. Just doing my duty.” Daisy smiled warmly. “You must be starving after sleeping for so long.” She then turned to Lauren, “Would you ask the staff to prepare something light for your grandfather?”

“Right away.” Lauren nodded before slipping out.

Unlike her usual hurried departures, Daisy remained in the room this time. She watched Malcolm take some nourishment, made pleasant conversation until he drifted back to sleep, and only prepared to leave after confirming his condition had stabilized.

“Daisy, you truly are a medical virtuoso.” Gemma clasped Daisy’s hand, personally seeing her out. “Our family owes you a great debt.”

Their intimacy could have mistaken them for lifelong friends, reducing Lauren who trailed behind to an afterthought.

“Mrs. Baker, any physician would have done the same. Healing is our calling.” Daisy maintained her gracious smile.

“Tell me,” Gemma inquired casually, “have you and Barnaby met yet?”

“We have.” A shadow of discomfort crossed Daisy’s features at the memory.

Gemma needed no further explanation. The meeting clearly hadn’t gone well.

Barnaby had always been difficult enough to unsettle even her.

After all these years, she could still recall those terrifying eyes.

He’d been just eight then, standing over a bloodied body, dagger in hand, his small face smeared crimson. Those eyes. burning with primal fury had belonged not to a child, but to some hellspawned demon.

It was his second day with the Thole family, and he’d already stabbed his caretaker.

Within that first month, four different servants fell victim to his blade.

Soon, no one in the household dared approach him, no soul willing to risk their life tending the dangerous boy until Lysander stepped forward.

Gemma never learned what methods he employed, but somehow he managed to temper the fury that consumed Barnaby, gradually taming the wildness within.

“Don’t worry, you’ll grow more comfortable with each meeting,” Gemma reassured, emerging from her thoughts. “Actually, I’ve heard Barnaby is searching for the Nameless Healer. This could be your chance to…”

“But wouldn’t that be… somewhat improper?” Daisy’s expression wavered with uncertainty.

She was already aware that Percival had been tasked with finding the Nameless Healer, yet he hadn’t reached out to her. She had been waiting patiently for that very approach.

“Barnaby is my cousin after all, and given how close we are, it’s only natural 1 help arrange things,” Gemma reassured her, patting her hand gently.

If she could successfully match Daisy with Barnaby, his substantial shares, second only to the family head, would become accessible. Daisy would surely remember who made it possible, potentially becoming Gemma’s steadfast ally within the Thole family.

“Ms. Reese! Thank goodness you’re still here.” Carol from earlier reappeared, accompanied by a distraught woman in her forties rushing down the corridor.

“Consider it settled then. I won’t keep you,” Gemma concluded gracefully, withdrawing with Lauren toward Malcolm’s room.

“Are you the Nameless Healer? Please, I beg you. Save my son!” the woman pleaded desperately. “The doctors say there’s no hope. They’ve given up on him, but he’s my child. Please, you must help us.”

“Ms. Reese, my apologies,” Carol explained hurriedly. “I saw them downstairs, and their situation was so heartbreaking. I couldn’t help but tell her you were here.”

Under the watchful eyes of passersby in the hallway, Daisy found her position delicate. The Reese family maintained professional ties with this hospital, and her own reputation here made refusal difficult.

“Take me to him,” Daisy said, helping the weeping woman to her feet.

“Thank you so much,” the woman cried, leading the way with renewed hope.

Arriving at her son’s room, they found the attending physician still present. His expression darkened upon seeing Daisy accompanied by the family.

“Ms. Reese, the patient’s platelet levels are dangerously low,” the doctor stated firmly. “Surgery poses unacceptable risks. Moreover, they’ve outstanding hospital bills and likely cannot afford the procedure. I must advise against this intervention.”

“Let me handle this. Please charge all expenses to my account,” Daisy responded, already reviewing the medical chart.

After examining the records and conducting her own efficient assessment, she immediately arranged for surgery.

Three hours later, the successful procedure concluded with the patient transferred to the ICU for monitoring.

“Thank you, I can never repay you,” the woman repeated through grateful tears.

In her overwhelming gratitude, the woman even summoned media attention, determined to publicize this act of extraordinary compassion.

The following morning, headlines flooded every major platform. Daisy Reese had been revealed as the Nameless Healer, celebrated not only for her medical prowess but also for covering the medical expenses of an impoverished mother.

At Scott Villa, Hannah was roused from sleep by Candy’s frantic call. “Hannah, are you still asleep? The world is burning and you’re cozy in bed!”

“This better be good, or I’m donating your Mouawad Red Diamond to Hedy’s toy collection,” Hannah grumbled, her voice thick with sleep.

“Check the news! That impostor Daisy is claiming to be you,” Candy seethed. “After I already exposed her at The Scepter

Hannah scrolled through the news with sleepy eyes.

The coverage went beyond yesterday’s hospital charity case. It detailed how the Nameless Healer had supposedly snatched the Obsidian Pearl right from the Scepter House’s master during their auction.

The fact that the Obsidian Pearl incident wasn’t reported the day after the auction, but only now, clearly suggested a calculated move.

“When did you see her face?” Hannah asked.

Candy froze, realizing she’d let it slip in her anger.

She reluctantly confessed to unmasking Daisy at The Scepter House earlier.

As the words left her mouth, it hit her that her reckless behavior had single-handedly caused this mess. She immediately smacked her own forehead in frustration.

“Hannah, I’m so sorry… This is all on me,” she murmured weakly before adding with renewed defiance, “But I can’t just let her get away with this impersonation.”

“Don’t do anything else,” Hannah said, now fully awake and heading to the bathroom. “Let me handle this.”

“But what are you going to do?” Candy pressed.
