Chapter 99

“What’s wrong?” Lucian asked, catching the noise on the other end of the line.

“I’ll talk to you about it when I get back. Talk later” Hannah hung up and quickly typed a message in the WhatsApp chat: Would you believe me if I said I sent it by accident?1

She hesitated before hitting send, then deleted it instead.

Relax, maybe he didn’t even see it, she thought.

Clinging to a bit of hope, she went ahead and unsent the earlier message too.

She’d meant to send Piggy’s info and photos over. Since he was into guys, this job was basically tailor-made for him.

But what happened next….

The Scepter House’s Master: [Nice body. Are you trying to seduce me or something?]

The Scepter House’s Master: [I didn’t get a good look. Send it again.]

Hannah was at a loss for words.

She immediately opened her photo album, and there it was, Barnaby’s photo, front and center.

The save date matched the day Barnaby had sent it. She must’ve accidentally saved it while wrestling the phone from Candy.

“This is such a huge misunderstanding!’ she thought.

She hurried to hit delete, but when the system asked if she was sure, her finger just slipped and hit no instead.

She couldn’t deny it, his body was seriously impressive.

Suddenly, she remembered that crazy move Barnaby pulled before. She went back to the WhatsApp chat and decided to just play along.

The Nameless Healer: [You want it? Trade me that century-old ginseng from the Scepter House.]

Downstairs in the study, Barnaby was looking at his phone, a faint smile playing on his lips.

‘She’s got some serious skills,’ Barnaby mused to himself.

His knuckles rapped lightly on the desk. ‘If she ever found out I was The Scepter House’s Master, I wonder how she’d react?’

Upstairs.

Hannah saw there was no reply and breathed a sigh of relief. ‘If he actually said yes, that’d be nuts…’

The Scepter House’s Master: [Deal.]

‘Wait, did that just happen?!’ she thought, totally stunned.

‘Is this for real?!’ Hannah thought, totally stunned.

The Scepter House’s Master: [But you need to send me ten sexy pics, all from different angles.]

Hannah could only stare, lost for words.

Is this really the Master?’ she wondered.

‘Did someone hack his account?’ she thought.

‘Does the Scepter House’s Master really have this kind of kink?’ Hannah wondered, her face full of question marks.

Completely confused, Hannah quickly found a few pics of buff guys online and sent them over.

The Scepter House’s Master: [Are you doubting my memory? Not planning to play fair with our deal?]

Hannah was at a loss for words.

‘Seriously, where am I supposed to get ten different sexy shots of Barnaby?’ she thought.

Owen sat outside the operating room at Grace Hospital, glancing at his watch every few seconds.

He was getting seriously restless. ‘It’s already this late? Why does surgery take forever?’ he thought, shifting in his seat.

He’d been hoping to walk Hannah home after school, but clearly, that was shot to pieces.

Just then, Gemma, Winston, and Lauren hurried over.

“Owen, what happened? Is Jasper badly hurt?” Gemma asked anxiously.

“Mrs. Baker, Jasper was helping a classmate with a package and accidentally hurt his hand. His right index and middle fingers are fractured,” Owen explained.

“Which classmate was dumb enough to ask Jasper to carry a package? Those hands are for playing piano, not for manual labor!” Gemma said harshly.

The last person Jasper ever tried so hard to impress was Susie, who’s already been shipped off to the sticks.

Seeing how mean Gemma was being, Owen just frowned and kept quiet.

He used to think Gemma was just fiery but straightforward… now she was just plain nasty.

Winston picked up on the tension and gave Gemma a gentle nudge, reminding her to watch her tone in front of Owen.

“No wonder Jasper had trouble with such a heavy package,” he said tactfully.

Then, turning to Owen with a polite smile, he added, “Owen, thanks for bringing Jasper to the hospital. It’s so late, you probably haven’t eaten yet. Let me order you something…”

“That’s alright. Now that you’re here, I’ll get going,” Owen replied, getting ready to leave.

As he turned to leave, he glanced at his watch again, wondering if Hannah was still at school.

Winston wanted to walk him out, but watching Owen’s brisk retreat, he couldn’t help but feel Owen’s indifference.

It was like Owen had already done more than enough just by bringing Jasper to the hospital.

Just then, the operating room door swung open.

“Doctor, how’s my son’s hand? Will he still be able to play piano?” Gemma blurted out, sounding desperate.

“The fractures have been set successfully. As long as he rests for three months, he should be able to play again,” the doctor

assured her.

“Should be?” Gemma snapped, her tone sharp and impatient. “I don’t want should be, I want his hand completely restored. just like before!

“No matter what it takes, you have to make sure his hand is perfect again!”

Her son was meant to be a world-class pianist, his hands could’t have even the slightest flaw!

“Yes, yes, of course,” the doctor nodded quickly, then said carefully, “As for why Mr. Baker can’t speak, we still haven’t found any issues…”

“Useless! Grace Hospital is being dragged down by people like you!” Gemma barked, her words dripping with venom.

Then she snapped at Lauren, who was just standing there. “Why are you just standing around? Hurry up and call Daisy over

here!”

Grace Hospital was the Reese family’s branch in Brynlock. The doctor got nervous for a second at the mention of the Reese heiress, but seeing Gemma’s fiery attitude, he was honestly kind of fed up.

‘Does she really think the Reese heiress is at her beck and call?’ he thought.

Lauren looked uncomfortable. “Mom, you forgot, didn’t you? Daisy’s back in Kinswood for Mrs. Reese’s 90th birthday.”

“It’s already so late, shouldn’t the party be over by now? Call her right now. I don’t care what it takes, you make sure she’s here first thing tomorrow to see your brother!” Gemma ordered sharply.

“I’ll try,” Lauren replied, her fists clenched tight in frustration.

Gemma was always like this, just throwing out orders, never caring whether it was even possible for Lauren to actually do what she asked.

Daisy was her friend, not her maid.

Besides, the Reese family was way above the Baker family.

Getting Daisy to come over for a check-up was already a huge favor. Now Gemma wanted her to just snap her fingers and have Daisy show up at the crack of dawn? That was seriously asking for the impossible!

Just then, the nurse wheeled Jasper out of the operating room. Gemma practically flew to his side, leaning over the bed and softly fussing over him, her voice suddenly gentle and caring.

The way she switched up made Lauren feel even worse. Her eyes rimmed red with tears as she quietly slipped out of the

room.

Jasper was moved to a private room, and Gemma and Winston crowded around his bed, not even noticing whether Lauren had come back or not.

“Jasper, tell me, who did this to you? I’m going to skin her alive!” Gemma said, her voice full of worry and anger.

Jasper opened his mouth, trying to speak, but no sound came out. Panic started to rise in his chest.

‘What did that country bumpkin do to me?’ he thought, his mind racing.

‘Am I going to be mute for the rest of my life?’ he panicked.

“Don’t worry, Jasper. Daisy will be here tomorrow to treat you,” Gemma soothed, her voice full of motherly concern.

Winston handed him his phone, switching it to the typing screen. With his left hand, Jasper struggled to type out a message: [Hannah did this to me!]

Chapter 99

When Gemma saw the name, her gaze turned poisonous. “That little tramp again!”

‘I haven’t even gone after her yet, and now she’s come knocking herself! Gemma thought viciously.
