Chapter 52 Cecilia Wasn’t Up To Anything Good
She grabbed his arm, but he shook her off at once, as if her touch disgusted him.
Katrina didn’t care about his reaction. “What are Nina and Chase doing together? Tell me!”
“They’re probably… heading home,” Jensen said, his tone flat, deliberately vague.

That answer made Katrina’s stomach tighten. “Aren’t you Nina’s boyfriend? Aren’t you two dating? She’s going home with Chase, and you don’t even care?”
“As long as she’s happy.”
Jensen couldn’t be bothered with her. After that, he turned and went down the stairs.
Katrina clenched her fists.
She had finally won Chase’s heart–there was no way she was going to let Nina take it from her.
She hurried out of the building. By the time she reached the school gate, she saw Nina and Chase getting into the same car and driving off.
That was the car Chase used to pick her up and drop her off every day.
Katrina bit down hard, then ran straight to the bus stop, heading for the Mercer house.
Meanwhile, Cecilia had already prepared dinner with great care.
When Chase came in with Nina, Cecilia beamed and waved her over. “Nina, come here, quick. I made all your favorites today!”
She pulled out a chair for Nina, while Chase took the seat across from her.
Nina glanced at the table full of dishes, then at the glass of red wine in Cecilia’s hand. “Mrs. Mercer, I’m not old enough to drink.”
“Oh, come on. It’s just red wine–hardly any alcohol.”
Without giving her a chance to refuse, Cecilia poured a glass and set it in front of her.
Nina looked at the wine and let out a faint, cold laugh.
So Cecilia wasn’t up to anything good this time either.
Unfazed, Nina sat down and said with a hint of reluctance, “Mrs. Mercer, my parents don’t allow me to drink. I’m still a minor.”
“You’re already seventeen–why wouldn’t you be able to? Plenty of kids your age drink.”
Cecilia smiled as she served her food. “And I still need to thank you for what you did with the shares last time. Without your help, we might’ve lost everything. This time, I’m going to properly show my gratitude.”
As she spoke, Cecilia shot Chase a few meaningful looks.
Chase raised his glass, clearly reluctant. “Thanks… for what you did with the shares.”

Before Nina could even pick up her glass, he tipped his back and drained it in one go.

Under the table, Cecilia nudged him with her foot. Her smile didn’t change, but the irritation in her eyes was obvious. Chase sighed and poured himself another glass.
A moment later, Cecilia suddenly let out a soft “Oh!”
Nina lifted a brow, playing along. “What is it, Mrs. Mercer?”
“I forgot an ingredient for one of the dishes. I’ll run to the store and grab it. You two keep chatting–I’ll be right back.”
She untied her apron as she spoke.
It was obvious she was trying to leave them alone together.
Nina wasn’t fooled. She stood up. “Do you want me to come with you, Mrs. Mercer?”
