She was already under the teachers‘ scrutiny because of her relationship with Chase, and she didn’t want to be seen as someone who took revenge on a snitch.
Grace said nothing, but she didn’t glance at Katrina–the class representative–once during the whole lesson.
After class, Katrina caught up with Nina, who was about to go running. She guiltily took Nina’s hand and said, “Nina, I tried to stop Tara and the others, but I couldn’t. I’m sorry… Were you hurt just now?”
Katrina expected Nina to forgive her as she always had before. But this time, Nina pulled her hand away, her attitude ice–cold. “This has nothing to do with you.”
With that, Nina tried to leave, but Katrina panicked and blocked her way.
“Nina, I already apologized. Can’t you forgive me? We’re best friends! I know you’re upset because Chase confessed to me, so you told the teacher. But you can’t force love!”
Katrina raised her voice on purpose, letting everyone in the hallway hear.
Everyone knew Nina used to follow Chase around–bringing him milk, cheering for him at sports meets, even slipping him love letters.
Nina laughed at the curious stares around her.
In her past life, she’d had a crush on Chase, but because she was insecure, she’d done all those things quietly. Every time, she had only liked him and supported him quietly from the shadows. Yet the whole school found out anyway–and the one responsible was Katrina.
Katrina had always claimed she was helping Nina win Chase over, but she’d only been using Nina to get close to him herself.
She’d told everyone about Nina’s crush, broadcasting every little thing Nina had done for Chase, making it seem like Nina was chasing him shamelessly.
As a result, the boys looked down on her, and the girls called her desperate.
In her past life, she must have been crazy to think Katrina was actually helping her. Even when her secret was exposed and she was bullied, she’d stupidly believed it was an accident.

“You mean Chase?” Nina said calmly. “He’s someone I discarded. If you like him, he’s all
With that, Nina walked past her.
Katrina froze. Discarded?
The students around them scoffed.
“Nina’s such a liar. Who does she think she is to reject Chase?”
yours.”
“He’s rich, good–looking, and top of his grade. He and Katrina are perfect together. What makes Nina think she can talk like that?”
“She’s just saving face. Look at her–Chase wouldn’t even let her clean his shoes.”
Just then, Chase stormed out of the office, his face dark.
He’d been given detention and had his credits deducted–all because of Nina.
“Nina!”
Chase’s angry shout made Nina stop.
He pulled Katrina into his arms and declared fiercely, “From today on, Katrina is my girlfriend! No one can tear us apart!”
His dramatic announcement made the students cheer loudly.
Linholt High School had strict rules against dating. For the school’s top student and heartthrob, Chase, to date the well–behaved class beauty Katrina, this caused a huge stir on
campus.
Nina glanced back at Chase and the shy Katrina in his arms and sneered inwardly.
They looked like a prince and Cinderella from a fairy tale.
But she knew better.
In her past life, Chase had been obsessed with Katrina for years only because he hadn’t gotten her when they were young.
What you can’t get in youth haunts you forever.
But once you have it, it’s rarely perfect.

Especially with the Mercer family on the edge of bankruptcy, and Katrina just a driver’s daughter. Their problems would go far beyond Katrina’s lies. Their ending was obvious.
Nina ignored them and walked away.
After the last class that afternoon, Nina waited for Jensen outside Class F. She also saw Cecilia storm into the school, fuming.
She was so angry that she didn’t notice Nina.
A crowd gathered outside the office. Even from Class F’s door, Nina heard a sharp slap from inside.
“Chase! You may have no shame, but I do! Who gave you permission to date?!”
Cecilia’s shrill voice carried to everyone.
Everyone knew Chase’s father had recently passed away, making Chase the Mercer heir. Many girls dreamed of marrying him.
Seeing Cecilia like this, everyone backed away nervously.
Nina wasn’t surprised.
Chase was Cecilia’s only hope. If his dating affected his studies, the Mercer family would be finished for good.
Especially since Chase had chosen someone other than Nina.
Besides the Tanns, who else could save the Mercers at a time like this?
“Nina.”
Jensen’s deep voice reached Nina’s ears.
