pter 8 Nina! Are You Crazy?
“No, thanks.”
Jensen spoke sharply and turned to leave the infirmary. Nina hurried after him.
“Jensen! Jensen!”
Jensen didn’t slow down.

Nina rushed forward and slipped. As she was about to fall, Jensen suddenly grabbed her arm. “Did… did you hurt yourself?”
His voice was quiet. Nina shook her head and pulled out a tube of gel from her pocket.
She’d been carrying it for bumps and bruises while losing weight. She pressed it into his hand.
“Your injury isn’t bad. I use this all the time–you should try it.”
Jensen stared at the gel in his hand and fell silent.
Nina knew Jensen was the illegitimate son, constantly bullied by Cecilia and Chase. With the Mercer family struggling, Cecilia would never give him money.
He’d only been allowed to attend this school to save the family’s reputation.
That gel was a premium brand he could never afford on his own.
“Thanks, but I don’t need it.”
Jensen pushed the gel back to her.
Knowing how proud he was, Nina said, “I’m not giving it to you for free. There’s a catch.”
At that, Jensen paused.
Nina said, “I know you’re short on money at the Mercers. And you saved me. I want to make a deal.”
“What deal?”
“You know I’m losing weight. Help me with my workouts, and I’ll pay you 500 bucks a month. Deal?”

Jensen frowned. “I’m not worth that much.”
“Of course you arc–but only if you help me see results.”
Nina pulled out several bills and placed them in his hand along with the gel.

“This is your payment for the week and my thank–you gift. Wait for me every lunch and during afternoon break.”
Before Jensen could reply, the bell rang. Nina grabbed his hand and started pulling him toward the classroom. “Hurry! We’re going to be late!”
Jensen didn’t respond. He just stared down at her hand holding his, lost in thought.
Jensen was not in Nina’s class.
The school had classes labeled A through F. Class A was for the top students, while Class F was for the lowest.
Jensen was in Class F–not because he was bad at studying, but because he’d been transferred there after a fight.
When Nina returned to Class A, the teacher hadn’t arrived yet. Her desk had been knocked over, and her books and supplies were scattered across the floor.
Nina’s eyes darkened at the sight of that.
The whole class was watching her and snickering.
“Who did this?”
No one answered.
Tara spoke arrogantly, “Who knows? Maybe the wind did it. But someone who snitches deserves to be punished.”
From Tara’s attitude, Nina knew she was the one responsible.
Tara always worshipped Katrina, and Katrina said nothing to defend Nina right now.
Katrina’s eyes were red from crying, looking pitiful.
As the class beauty, Katrina’s suffering naturally drew others to her defense.
Nina sneered. She walked straight to Tara’s desk and flipped it over violently.

Tara jumped to her feet. “Nina! Are you crazy?!”

Not only Tara’s desk, but also those of her friends who were close to Katrina–all of them crashed to the floor.
Finally, Nina kicked over Tara’s chair. Screams filled the classroom.
“Shut up!”
Nina’s glare silenced them all.
“I’m warning you–don’t touch my things unless you want your parents called to school. I’m not someone you can mess with.”
“Nina! You’re going too far!”
Katrina stood up, acting self–righteous. “We’re all classmates. How can you bully people like this?”
“You shut up!” Nina snapped. “You got in trouble for dating, then acted pitiful so your friends would stand up for you. If I report this, they’ll get disciplinary records because of you. Is that how you be a friend?”
Katrina’s face paled.
She’d always played the kind, gentle girl. Nina’s words exposed her as a manipulative person who used her friends as shields.
Seeing Katrina speechless, Tara stepped in front of her. “Nina! Stop talking crap! We just don’t like you this has nothing to do with Katrina!”
“Oh? So you admit you
knocked over my
desk?”
“I…”
“Bullying violates both school rules and the law. Today you flip my desk; tomorrow you might hurt me. I think I should not only call the teacher but also the police.”
Tara turned white at the mention of the police.
As Nina started toward the door, Tara grabbed her arm. “Nina! Stop right there!”
The literature teacher, Grace Hall, walked in just as Tara pulled Nina. Nina deliberately let go, and Tara’s tug sent her crashing into the fallen desk.
