Late that night, the sharp sound of tires scraping against the pavement echoed outside. Vance had just returned home from the International Hotel.

He stepped inside, glanced briefly toward Cassia’s room as he passed, then continued on to his own to wash up and get some rest.

The house fell quiet again.

The next morning came. Danica and Brie had already finished breakfast. They stood up and left before Cassia was even done eating, walking past her as if she were invisible.

Breakfast with family should’ve been warm, but Geneva felt none of it. The cold morning somehow felt even colder.

“Why does it feel like the three of you are growing further apart?” Geneva muttered under her breath.

Cassia heard her and forced a small, awkward laugh.

Geneva had gone straight to the kitchen after shopping yesterday, so she hadn’t seen how ridiculous Brie and Danica had been acting that night.

Right after Cassia finished lunch in the school cafeteria, her phone buzzed with a call from an unknown number.

Her contact list had only a handful of people.

But she knew this number. It belonged to her biological father, Vance.

The same man who could hardly stand her presence. And now he was calling her?

Cassia answered.

“Cassia, my sweet girl. I’m at your school. Surprise!”

Cassia’s lips parted slightly.

His sudden cheerfulness felt off.

People don’t act nice unless they want something.

Her voice carried a warning–if he kept stalling, she’d hang up.

Vance hesitated. He knew this daughter had people backing her now, people he didn’t dare cross.

He cleared his throat, forcing a nervous chuckle. “Okay, okay. No comparisons. Cassia, sweetheart, I just wanted to know… do you have a little extra cash?”

He had seen it with his own eyes last night–the man who gave her that stunning piece of jewelry. If she could get gifts like that, she must be getting plenty of spending money too.

And since his company needed a new round of investment for Cosmo Group, why dip into his own funds when his daughter’s would do just fine?

I can just use her money to get the purchase I need.

She hung up before he could finish.

Vance’s face twisted with rage. He gripped his phone so hard it nearly cracked.

“You ungrateful brat! I’m your father! How dare you talk to me like that?”

He threw the phone onto the seat beside him and cursed under his breath.

“Fine. Just wait. I’ll deal with you after work.”
