Chapter 148 Sterling is Missing
10 Pine Come
The nurse walked over to stand between Cassia and Victoria, holding a medical chart, her tone blunt as she said, “You think she was admitted to the hospital for nothing? Ms. Wood has anemia, and she just had surgery for acute appendicitis a few days ago.
“Here, these are her lab results.” The nurse put the chart and the lab test reports right in Victoria’s hand.
Victoria wasn’t a doctor, but she could read basic lab test results.
She looked up at Cassia.
Her face was pale, with hardly any color at all.
Then she glanced at Cassia’s hand–there were bruises all around the spot where the IV had gone in.
Seeing all that, Victoria didn’t know what to say.
Just then, Danica craned her neck to look at the results and scoffed, “Moderate anemia is nothing. There’s no need to be hospitalized for that. You could have just rested at home after your appendix surgery. You’re just lazy. I saw you drinking cold milk from the fridge the other morning. You really couldn’t be bothered to heat it up?”
The more Danica talked, the less the nurse could stand it.
“I’m sorry, but even if the patient is just your foster sister, you don’t have to be this mean!”
Her words made Victoria and the others feel absolutely mortified.
Standing in the hallway, Seven couldn’t help but give the nurse a thumbs–up.
That’s Boss for you! Sending a nurse to put them in their place is way more satisfying than doing it ourselves!
The nurse had done it on purpose. She just couldn’t stand seeing Victoria, Brie, and,Danica treat their own family like that.
Cassia let out a low laugh.
Her voice echoed through the empty hospital room, cold and full of sarcasm.
That sound made Victoria want to leave as fast as possible.

Just then, Danica’s phone rang, breaking the tense silence.
“It’s Dad.” Danica said after checking the screen, turning to Victoria.
Victoria wondered if Vance had found out that Cassia was in a VIP room.
If she were already this mad, Vance would be even angrier.

He wouldn’t take it out on her, but she worried he might blame Brie and Danica–those poor girls.
Victoria fretted over this, missing the look Brie and Danica exchanged, as if watching a show.
Obviously, their dad’s call was about Cassia’s hospital stay.
They were ready for some drama tonight.
“Hello? Dad, you should’ve seen how rude Cassia was. Grandma and Brie were being nice and visiting her, and she acted like she didn’t care. She just sat there sulking…” Danica answered, rattling on.
Then, she suddenly said, “What? Dad, what did you say? The orphanage director called you? There’s an urgent situation, and he needs Cassia?”
Victoria and Brie instantly turned to look at Danica.
Cassia felt a wave of unease at hearing the words “orphanage” and “urgent.”
“Here, Dad says you need to take this call.”
Danica pouted, not thrilled as she handed her phone to Cassia.
Cassia took the phone and held it to her ear.
“What? Sterling is missing?”
Cassia shot upright, pulling her feet out of bed and standing up.
“Hey! Stop right there! Where do you think you’re going?”
Victoria was startled by Cassia’s sudden movement.
She called after her, but Cassia didn’t answer.
“Hey! My phone!”
