Vance wondered if his son had lost his mind. What nonsense is he talking about now?

“Dad, you know my eyesight’s perfect. I’m not seeing things. Look over there!” Aspen pointed toward the hall entrance.
Vance followed his son’s finger and caught a glimpse of a slim figure with long legs walking out the door.
He froze for a moment. That girl looked just like Cassia.
No way. What would she be doing here? No! I must’ve imagined it.
Still, just thinking of that girl ruined his mood.
Every time he thought of her, trouble followed.
While he was lost in thought, the receptionist came over with an apologetic smile. “Hello, I’m sorry. Ms. Lane is very busy today. She isn’t taking visitors.”
Nicole knew exactly who they were. After the way they’d treated Cassia, there was no way she’d agree to see them. Honestly, she was already being polite by not kicking them out.
How could they treat someone she cherished deeply so awfully? That was unforgivable.
Vance’s brows furrowed tightly.
He knew it. Anything connected to Cassia was bound to end in disaster,
Even a simple visit turned into a mess.
Vance’s face darkened instantly. A chill, creepy aura seemed to settle over him.
After the receptionist left, Aspen couldn’t hold back anymore. “Ugh, she’s just a showy rich,” he grumbled. “So what if she doesn’t want to see us? Big deal.”
“Shut up!” Vance snapped. He was already in a foul mood. His son’s words only worsened it.
Man, the company’s performance has tanked lately. I’m counting on making that connection with Cosmo Group; I thought it’d give us some breathing room. But I wouldn’t even get to meet their CEO?
“Yeah, it’s weird,” Aspen said, frustration creeping into his voice. “Ever since Cassia came back, nothing’s been going right.” He was still young and impulsive, speaking without much thought.
Vance let out a deep sigh and stormed out of Cosmo Group’s building, his face dark with anger.
Aspen followed closely behind, not daring to say another word.
When they got home, Vance still pulled a long face, as if someone had wronged him.
Geneva saw him walk in and quickly approached him. “Honey, what’s wrong? What happened?”

The moment Vance saw her, he thought of Cassia. How everything had turned into a mess since she’d brought that girl back. His anger instantly shifted toward her. “What happened? Like you’d know how to fix anything! You know nothing and always causing me trouble!”
Vance wouldn’t stop. He kept scolding nonstop, his voice sharp and bitter.
Geneva stood there, hurt and speechless. Her eyes turned red as tears welled up.
Danica and Brie sat quietly on the couch, not daring to make a noise. Anyone could tell Vance was in a terrible mood.
Vance looked around the room and frowned. “Where’s Cassia? Why don’t I see her?”
The thought suddenly hit him–was that girl he saw earlier at Cosmo Group really Cassia?
“Dad, she went back to her room,” Danica said quickly. “No idea what she’s doing.” Her tone was light, almost too casual. Deep down, she was hoping her father would scold Cassia again.
Let’s see how long she can keep acting all high and mighty! I just can’t stand her!”
“Hmph. All she does is waste food and space. If she fails the exam, she can forget about stepping into this house again,” Vance snapped. His anger wasn’t really about the test; it was just another excuse.
In his mind, Cassia was a walking disaster, someone who brought misfortune everywhere she went.
Danica and Brie exchanged gloating smiles. Perfect.
The City Finals were no joke–hard enough to crush anyone. Cassia might as well start packing.
The City Finals were set for early next month–just two weeks away. Every subject teacher was cramming in mock tests, eager to see how their students were doing.
The whole school felt tense. Everyone, that is, except Cassia. She sat through it all, calm and detached, like nothing could ruffle her.
That morning, when Cassia walked into the classroom, her cool gaze swept across the room. Instantly, students shifted aside, making way for her. Word had spread. Cassia had taken down three punks all by herself.
