“You’re going to meet Ms. Wood looking like that?”

The moment Seven heard the front door open, he quickly dragged Sterling over to the kitchen sink. One hand pressed the kid’s head down, while the other rubbed and scrubbed his face like crazy,
Cassia, hearing the sound of running water in the kitchen, stepped in, frowning in confusion.
What she saw made her blink. Sterling stood there like a wet little duck, dripping water everywhere, frozen beside Seven.
And Seven? He was standing straight as a board, face stiff, like some soldier in military training.
Cassia glanced at Sterling, then at Seven.
Something weird was definitely going on.
Before she could even ask, her eyes landed on the microwave, still smoking a little.
Sterling’s heart skipped a beat.
“Uh… this–it’s–it’s not what it looks like–I mean, I accidentally broke it,” Seven stammered, scratching the back of his head awkwardly.
Sterling slowly turned to look at him, eyes wide, confused.
Wait… why is he taking the blame for something I did?
“How did it happen?” Cassia asked curiously.
“Hehe…” Seven scratched his head again.
“I just… uh
…
put an egg in the microwave.”
Cassia’s expression immediately said, Are you serious?
“Ahaha, well… since you’re here, I’ll just … leave now.”
Seven grinned sheepishly and backed out of the room.
With Seven gone, Sterling stayed by Cassia’s side, carrying her a glass of water.
“What’s this for?” she asked, taking the cup from him and gently ruffling his hair.
“The microwave…” Sterling admitted, feeling like he couldn’t lie anymore.
“I–I broke it,” he
“bled, voice small.
Cassia sipped her water and smiled faintly. “I figured it. Seven isn’t that dumb.”

Sterling lowered his head, looking like he had committed the world’s biggest crime.

“It’s just a microwave. You don’t need to act like this. And I’m not mad. Besides… this house was bought with your money, too,” she said softly, a hint of warmth hidden in her calm tone.
Hearing that, Sterling slowly lifted his head. His clear, bright eyes curved into a smile.
Simple. Honest. Pure. Bright enough to light up the room.
A small, proud glint hid in his clean, bright smile…
He used his money to buy it–he really was useful….
Being recognized like this felt… really good.
“Let’s go inside,” Cassia said, setting down her glass. She thought about starting Sterling’s daily hypnosis session.
“Okay,” Sterling said obediently, following her into his little bedroom.
By 8:30 p.m., the doorbell rang.
Draven and Seven were carrying bags full of food.
“Ms. Wood, look what we brought! Everything’s from the private chef at Atelier Zrario!”
Seven set the food on the table and was the first to open the box of crabs.
“Kid, here’s your favorite–crabs,” Seven said to Sterling. “Tonight, eat as much as you want! I’ll peel every single one for you!”
Halfway through dinner, Cassia got a strange, scrambled message from Jake.
Jake sent, “I found it.”
Cassia asked, “Where?”
Jake replied, “Retro Revival.”
Retro Revival?
“Did you get the painting?” Draven noticed Cassia staring at her phone instead of eating and asked.
Cassia glanced at him. “Brie sold the painting to Retro Revival in the antique market. The previous owner, Sean Bennett, took it.”
“Sean Bennett?” Draven asked casually, picking crab meat from the shells and placing it on Cassia’s plate.
“The same Mr. Bennett from the gemstone market you went to last time?”

Refined, graceful, calm, and polite.
“Yeah.”
Cassia stared at the crab meat on her plate.
Seeing her not cat, Draven’s gray–brown brows furrowed slightly.
“My hands are clean.”
Her gaze shifted to his hands–strong, defined knuckles.
Beautiful.

“I just don’t like being taken care of by others,” Cassia said, dipping a piece of crab meat into the sauce.
“You’re very suited to being cared for,” Draven said.
To him, Cassia was just a normal girl–someone who deserved to be pampered and treated with care.
And he was more than happy to be the one to do it.
Cassia paused mid–bite and looked up at him.
Her charming blue eyes glimmered, unintentionally drawing him in.
“You want to take care of me?”
Seven scooted closer to Sterling.
Sterling stared blankly at him, feeling slightly cornered.
A little resistant.
Noticing the boy’s reaction, Seven quickly peeled a crab and put it on Sterling’s plate.
Seeing the crab, Sterling let him stay nearby… for now.
Draven’s fingers lightly tapped the tablecloth, his expression calm.
“The first reason I was drawn to you was my own eye for people. The second… I feel it’s instinct to take care of you,” Draven said evenly.
Seven crossed his arms, rubbing them, and tried to squeeze a little closer to Sterling again.
