Chapter 377 The Bait
Her body felt soft and warm, and she smelled faintly sweet. He didn’t want to let go.
Draven’s throat bobbed as he swallowed.
He tugged at his tie, but his breathing only grew faster.
Draven parted his lips and reached up, undoing the first button of his shirt.
He just wanted to breathe more easily.
No, not yet. Not now.
I couldn’t do it.
No, I have to stop here.
He took another deep breath, then pulled his hand back.
Turning away, he left the room and closed the door.
In the bathroom, he turned on the faucet and splashed cold water on his face repeatedly until his head cleared.
Once he had calmed down, Draven stepped out and suddenly thought of Seven.
The living room was empty. Had Seven already gone home?
Draven glanced at the table and spotted a phone.
It was Seven’s.
The kid wasn’t there either.
Then Draven noticed faint drag marks on the floor.
He looked toward Sterling’s place, paused for a second, and then opened the door and went out.

The next morning, Brie called Cassia again. She blocked her number.
No matter whose phone she used after that, Cassia’s number always showed as powered off.
For days, Brie kept trying. Cassia never answered.
With no other choice, Brie went to look for Sacha or Rosalie.
During break, Brie went to the advanced class and found Rosalie.
“Rosalie, my dad is sick,” Brie said softly. “But Cassia misunderstands us and won’t take our calls. Can you help me call her?”
“Oh…” Rosalie hesitated.

If Cassia refused to answer Brie, it meant Brie had crossed her again. If Rosalie helped, she might lose Cassia as a friend.
“Please,” Brie begged, her eyes turning red. “My dad is very ill. He’s in the hospital. He really misses Cassia.”
As she spoke, her eyes turned red and tears fell.

“They’re still father and daughter,” Brie said through sobs. “Cassia may act cold, but she still cares about him. Please help me, okay?”
“Don’t cry,” Rosalie said at last. “Alright. I’ll help.”
“Thank you, Rosalie,” Brie said gratefully.
“But if Cassia says no,” Rosalie added, “there’s nothing I can do.”
Rosalie agreed mostly because she was thinking of Cassia.
What child could truly stay unmoved after hearing their father was seriously ill?
Rosalie made the call.
“Hello?”
“What is it?”
“Cassia,” Rosalie said carefully. “Brie came to see me. She said your dad is sick and in the hospital. He wants to see you.”
“He’s in good health,” Cassia replied coolly. “He won’t get sick.”
Rosalie froze and glanced at Brie, whose face was still wet with tears.
“But she doesn’t look like she’s lying,” Rosalie said.
“When you can finally tell whether she’s lying or not,” Cassia said flatly, “you could become a psychologist.”
Rosalie fell silent.
She understood what Cassia meant,
After watching Brie these past days, Rosalie had noticed how good Brie was at acting.
But lying about her father being sick–surely not many people could do that?
Not wanting to put Rosalie in a difficult spot, Cassia said, “Give the phone to Brie.”
Over the past two days, Cassia had received many text alerts about blocked calls on her phone. They were probably all from Brie.
Brie was calling so urgently that Cassia actually felt curious. She wanted to see what trick Brie was trying to pull this time.
Rosalie handed the phone to Brie.
Brie took the phone and walked to the side.
“Cassia,” Brie said, lowering her voice, “Dad asked me to tell you this. He wants to meet and talk about your legal residence paper
