Chapter 403 Widening Gap
As she kept talking, Brie’s eyes gradually turned red, her shoulders curling inward, as if she were ready to die a hero.
It was as though the words she was saying went against her own heart, spoken only to “protect” Cassia.
“Cassia must have pushed Danica by accident…”
“How dare Cassia hurt Danica like this!”
Victoria couldn’t take it anymore. She leapt up from the floor, stormed out the door, waving her cane like a weapon.
“I’ll kill her!”

At the hospital, Cassia and Fred Limbaugh stood outside the IPU intensive care unit.
“How is she?”
“It’s bad… A deep split at the back of her head and severe blood loss…”
“Let me operate. Danica has to make it.”
If Danica died, Geneva would be devastated.
And lately, Danica had grown close to her, following her around every day, calling out “Cassia” in that soft, eager voice.
Fred nodded. “Alright.”
Cassia changed into a white coat, scrubbed in, and walked into the IPU.
Just as Fred was about to step away to rest, a noisy group came charging down the corridor.
Several nurses were trying to block the furious Victoria and the rest of the Woods.
“Please calm down! This is a hospital–no shouting!”
“Move! Where’s Cassia? I want to see Cassia!” Victoria swung her cane, looking more like a bandit than the refined, dignified society matriarch she usually appeared to be.
“What’s going on?” Fred frowned at the commotion.
“Dr. Limbaugh, the patient’s family is causing a scene!”
When Vance saw the elderly man in a white coat approaching and heard the nurses address him as “Dr. Limbaugh,” he immediately guessed this must be a highly respected leader in the hospital.
He grabbed Victoria, trying to steady her.
“Hello, my name is Vance Wood. A girl named Danica was brought in just now, right? I’m her father.”
Vance pulled out a business card and handed it to Fred.

“Mr. Wood, I’ve heard of you.” Fred accepted the card, glanced at it, exchanged brief pleasantries, then said, “Danica’s condition is critical–head trauma and excessive blood loss. She’s still in surgery.”
Victoria clutched her chest, her head pounding.
“Didn’t Cassia come here too? Where is she?”
Seeing how agitated she was, Fred got the unsettling impression that this elderly woman looked ready to kill someone.
“Ma’am, Ms. Wood is currently in surgery.”
“In surgery? Cassia was injured too?” Vance asked, stunned.
“No, she-”
Before Fred could finish, the red light above the IPU doors switched off and turned green.
The door opened, and Cassia stepped out.
With her mask on, her hair tucked away, and bulky surgical scrubs covering her figure, Victoria and the others didn’t recognize her at first.
Cassia saw the Woods gathered there and walked over. “It’s alright. Danica is out of life–threatening danger. But because of the blood loss, she’s still unconscious.”
Vance and the others stared at the surgeon in disbelief.
That voice… Is that Cassia?
Impossible.
Or did it just sound like her?
“May I ask who you are?” Vance asked cautiously, forcing politeness into his tone.
Cassia removed her mask.
In an instant, it was as if an invisible shockwave blasted through the hallway, leaving Vance and the others staggering back, dizzy and speechless.
It really is Cassia!!!
“H–How is this possible?” Vance looked at Fred in disbelief, as if hoping he would confirm that this was all some kind of dream.
But Fred simply said, “Just as you see, Ms. Wood performed the surgery on your daughter, Danica.”
“S–She’s just a high school kid who hasn’t even graduated yet! H–How could she possibly do that?!”
Vance was known for his sharp tongue and quick thinking in business, but right now, he was so stunned by Cassia and Fred’s words that his speech tangled in his mouth.
Brie stood frozen, her mouth hanging open, her eyes wide as walnuts.
Cassia performed Danica’s surgery? And she saved her life?

This was the Central City Hospital–the most authoritative hospital in all of Zrario–and the man standing beside her was a highly respected medical leader. They wouldn’t be joking.
So, it was real?
“Ms. Wood’s medical skills are so extraordinary that even I, a veteran in the medical field, can’t compare,” Fred said with a hearty laugh, stroking his beard as he watched the stunned family.
“Enough.” Cassia shot him a sideways glare.
Fred only laughed harder.
The easy banter between Cassia and Fred left Vance and the others even more dumbfounded.
The more Brie looked at Cassia, the more unreal everything felt.
The distance between her and Cassia seemed to be growing wider and wider, until it felt impossible to cross.
