The Returned Heiress Who Had It All (Cassia) novel Chapter 41

Chapter 41 Forgotten Bet

Once again, the whole class stared with wide eyes.

What? A perfect score?

How could anyone get a perfect score on an essay?

And the math section was super hard.

While everyone kept arguing, Danica walked back in with her head down.

The moment people saw her face, they already guessed what happened. Everyone knew Danica never liked Cassia. The two of them never got along.

To be fair, it was always Danica picking fights. Cassia barely reacted to her at all.

Danica had just sat down when Tyne leaned over, ready to ask what she saw.

But right then, the bell rang.

The whole class was still buzzing about the test scores when Lilian walked in carrying a stack of papers.

Her face was tight and serious.

She placed the papers on the podium and looked out at the class.

Everyone knew about her bet with Cassia. The atmosphere felt awkward now.

Because Cassia had just proved her completely wrong.

The room felt painfully awkward. Lilian didn’t speak at first. She just stood there for a moment. Then she finally said, calm and even, Cassia, stand up and tell ushow do you think you performed this time?

Cassia had been called on, and even though she wasn’t scared of Lilian, she still respected her as a teacher.

She stood and frowned lightly. I think I did pretty well. The questions weren’t that hard.

The other students were so stunned their mouths fell open.

What? Not hard?

How could a failing student say something like that?

Cassia lifted her eyes. A quiet confidence flickered in her calm gaze.

Cassia,Lilian said, trying to keep her tone gentle, I was hoping to save you some dignity. But with scores like these, can you honestly say you earned them? She simply could not believe Cassia could score that high, but she also had no proof of anything else.

I earned them,” Cassia replied softly. I have nothing to feel guilty about.

Fine,Lilian said, her voice turning sharp. Then you’ll deal with the consequences yourself.”

Cassia even nodded, as if she agreed.

When Cassia sat back down, Lilian picked up the test again. She had read it several times already. It was perfectso perfect she couldn’t find a single mistake.

She turned to the class and said, The results are posted outside. I believe you’ve all seen them. Overall, the scores weren’t great. The test was difficult. But Cassia from our class scored perfect in all three subjects.”

Before she could finish, Danica shot to her feet. That’s impossible! They must’ve mixed something up!

Lilian opened her mouth, but Danica kept talking, louder and louder. Ms. Reed, there’s no way she’s in first place! I know her. She’s from some tiny backwater town. She barely even went to high school there. How could she be number one? And a perfect essay? That’s not normal!

As soon as Danica said it, the whole room erupted.

Yeah, she totally cheated!

She should be lucky just to pass!

Disgusting. She actually cheated.

Dozens of students turned to Cassia with disgust. Mocking voices filled the classroom.

Cassia, how could this happen?Sacha whispered.

Cassia smiled faintly, as if none of this bothered her at all.

The truth is still the truth, she said.

She had expected this reaction the moment she saw her score.

The room buzzed with whispers, but Cassia suddenly stood up. If anyone believes I cheated, she said calmly, then show me the proof.”

The entire class went silent.

Everyone glanced at one another, unsure what to say.

Lilian choked on her words. She didn’t have real proof that Cassia cheated. She only had her doubts.

But she was a teacher. Yes, she had made a bet with Cassia and lost, but she couldn’t stand in front of the class and publicly admit she misjudged Cassia.

If she did that, how could she ever show her face at school again?

She had to find a way to smooth this over.

Otherwise, she would be the one embarrassed.

Well,Lilian began, forcing a warm, serious tone, you know in your heart whether you cheated or not. I’m not here to accuse you harshly. She paused, then added, Students from small rural towns might have weaker foundations, and that’s okay. We don’t judge you for that. Everyone comes from a different environment. But you must always be honest. Since this is the first time, I won’t pursue it. I only hope whoever cheated understands this is a lesson.

With a few sentences, Lilian wiped the bet off the table and made herself look generous.

But her words clearly hinted that Cassia only scored high because she cheated, and she was choosing to let it go out of kindness. And the bet? Forgotten. Swept under the rug.

Cassia let out a small, cool smile. Ms. Reed, are you saying the bet doesn’t count?

The whole class stared. No one expected Cassia to push back like that.

Didn’t she know Lilian held grudges?

Still, some students secretly wanted to see how this played out. After all, asking a teacher to bark like a dog was a bit much.

You know exactly what I mean,Lilian said, voice tight. If you’re really that capable, then keep scoring first place in every exam. If you can do that, I’ll admit it. And I’ll keep my promise when the time comes. She absolutely didn’t believe it was possible. In all her years of teaching, she had never misjudged a student.
