Chapter 428 Going Home

The last time Geneva and Victoria had entered Cassia’s room together, they’d turned on her computer. But because of the password, Victoria hadn’t managed to access any of Cassia’s private files.
Brie had always felt that someone like Cassia–twisted, mentally unstable–probably had something abnormal hidden on her computer.
So when she turned it on and entered the password, it showed as wrong.
How could that be?
Victoria had clearly told her the password was Victoria’s birthday. She knew that date by heart. There was no way she’d misremembered it.
She typed it again. Still wrong.
She felt it was strange. She knew Victoria wouldn’t lie to her.
That meant Cassia must have changed the password.
Seriously? Changing the password? What kind of paranoia is that?
After thinking for a moment, Brie entered her own birthday.
The computer shut down.
Completely baffled, she stood there for several long minutes before turning it back on.
When it restarted, white flashing words appeared on the black screen.
“Relax. Keep trying.”
The bright letters glared against the dark background.
She’d wanted to smash the laptop right then.
Just as Brie was lost in that memory, Danica’s voice–cool, edged with mockery–cut through her thoughts.
“How do you know where Cassia’s certificate is? You’ve been in her room, haven’t you? I remember the drawer with her certificates is locked. Did you steal the key from Grandma?”
Brie’s eyes widened.
Danica was standing at the door of the honors class.
Her tone has gotten so much like that bitch’s lately.
What startled Brie wasn’t Danica showing up, but the sharp accuracy of her words.
She’d been so focused on bringing Cassia’s certificate tomorrow to expose her as a fraud that she’d forgotten that detail.
“I honestly have no words for Brie anymore,” said a boy who used to worship her.

“Same,” another muttered, staring at her once–angelic face and feeling cheated.
What a waste of good eyesight.
Though honestly, it’s not entirely my fault. Brie is just that good at pretending.
The more the class whispered, the deeper Brie’s resentment toward Cassia grew.

Suddenly, she understood something. No wonder Brie got along so well with Vance and Victoria. They all clashed with Cassia in exactly the same way.
“Danica… I didn’t sneak into Cassia’s room on purpose. She hadn’t come home in a while. I was worried the room would get dusty or that the maid might take something. So I just helped clean up a little.”
Her voice was soft and gentle. Whether anyone believed her was another matter.
“Is that so?” Danica sneered.
She had seen through Brie completely. She would never believe that lying bitch again.
Then she remembered what Cassia had told her earlier. “After school, let’s go home together.”
What?
Brie’s eyes widened.
Danica is inviting me back to Wood Manor?
back?
Am I hearing things? Didn’t Danica choose Cassia? Doesn’t she insist on living with her? Why would she suddenly want to go.
“Danica, aren’t you staying with Cassia anymore?” Brie asked cautiously.
“I got bored. Can’t I change things up?”
Brie didn’t know why, but if Danica was willing to return, that meant she still had a chance.
For her, this was practically a miracle.
Because then she had a chance to pull Danica back to her side.
She couldn’t lose Danica.
If she did, her standing in the Woods would collapse.
Forcing a sweet smile, Brie said, “Of course. You’re always welcome home.”
Danica looked at that sugary smile and felt disgust rise in her chest.
So fake.
Over in the advanced class, Cassia had been watching the honors class from the corner of her eye.
From Danica’s lip movements and expressions, she could guess exactly what had been said.

Seeing Danica follow her instructions before leaving, Cassia’s gaze drifted away.
She returned to her chess match with “The World.”
One move. Victory again.
She sent a message. “If I win one more round, I’m done for today.”
Across the screen, Draven’s expression darkened. He shot Seven a cold look.
He could have won the last round. But when Seven had brought him coffee, he’d accidentally bumped his hand mid–click, and the misplacement had cost him the game.
