Cassia walked out of the multimedia room with her phone in hand. Before she could call back, the other side ráng again.
“Hmph! I thought you were never going to answer!” Vance’s irritated voice came through the speaker.
“I don’t have time for your nonsense. Say what you need to say,” Cassia replied, leaning against a pillar in the hallway, one brow arched with a hint of sharp defiance.
Vance’s face darkened instantly.
No matter how poorly I treated her before, I’m still her biological father!
Of course, that was something he only dared grumble about in his own head. If he actually said it out loud, he could forget about ever getting her back.
“Fine… I didn’t call for anything major. I just wanted to ask when you’re coming home.”
“Why would I go back?” Cassia deliberately avoided using the word home.
Because in her heart, Wood Manor had never been her home. Even if she carried their last name, even if she was the biological daughter of the head of the family.
“To come back… and live with us.” Vance sounded confused.
Why ask why? She’s my daughter. Of course, she should live with me. Isn’t that obvious?
“No apology?” Cassia’s tone carried a thin layer of icy mockery.
“Apologize for what?” Vance was even more confused.
“You know by now that Brie pushed Danica. When you all misunderstood me, you were ready to send me to Yavaria. Grandma even wanted me dead. And now you’re calling me without a single word of apology?” Her voice was cold and steady.
Vance was completely caught off guard.
He… honestly hadn’t thought of that.
“W–well, there wasn’t any evidence before. Let the past be the past. I know it wasn’t you now. I’ve already punished Brie. Just calm down and come home, okay?”
In his mind, he was already treating her like an honored guest. If she still refused to give him face, then he really…
“Don’t even think about it,” Cassia said with a faint laugh.
“What…” Vance’s temper flared again, but he swallowed it. If he wanted her back, he couldn’t lose control now.
“What will it take for you to come home?”
“I’ve decided to completely cut ties with the Woods. I won’t go back. Ever.” She twirled a strand of hair absentmindedly around her fingers.
“Oh, and you can start the paperwork to legally disown me.”

“Cassia, what-“Vance’s chest tightened painfully, but there was nothing he could do.
“When you’ve officially disowned me, then you can call me again.”
She hung up.
Vance stared at his phone, his expression cycling through colors like a malfunctioning neon sign.
Smack!
He hurled the phone onto the floor in fury.
After ending the call, Cassia returned to the classroom, grabbed her things, and left.

“She’s leaving already?” one student murmured, watching her back. “The SAT is right around the corner. Why doesn’t she look worried at all?”
“Even if her regular grades are good, the SAT is brutal. It’s not the same as normal tests. She should at least study seriously. 1 bet she might not even pass. And her attendance isn’t great either. What if she doesn’t even graduate?”
Rosalie turned around and said firmly, “That won’t happen. Cassia’s ability is obvious. She’s ranked first in every exam, hasn’t she? And she qualified for the International Mathematical Olympiad.”
“We didn’t mean anything by it. Just talking…”
But they were genuinely envious.
They had never seen her study seriously, yet she still ranked first every time–and without cheating.
