Back in the past, whenever Brie achieved something or prepared for an important competition, everyone would be over the moon. They would wait on her, praise her, and cheer her on.
But today?
When Brie walked to the dining table, it was completely empty.
There wasn’t even breakfast. Not a single thing had been made for her.
Brie clenched her fists, anger boiling inside her as she cursed Cassia in her heart.
It was all because of that bitch. Because of her, Brie’s position in the family kept falling. If Cassia had never shown up, Brie would still be the princess everyone spoiled. How could she have ended up like this?
Calm down… stay calm. She was about to head to the airport soon. Once she arrived at Vrastin, performed well on the exam, and secured a recommendation, everything would change.
Brie took a deep breath and forced herself to relax. She told the driver to get the car ready, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and walked out the front door.
She stopped by a convenience store on the way and bought a piece of bread for breakfast. Then the car took her to school.
She wasn’t the only one going to Vrastin for the exam. The school had arranged a special bus to take the students to the airport, with teachers assigned to organize and supervise the trip.
Brie boarded the bus with the others, looking confident and full of anticipation.
She leaned her head against the window and watched the scenery slide past.
She had spent all this time grinding through practice questions and training for the competitions for one reason. Brie wanted to place well in Vrastin and earn that guaranteed spot at Vego University.
That was only one goal. The second–and more important one–was to meet a rich young heir.
Should she marry into one of Vrastin’s elite families, Vance would eagerly return to flatter her. The Woods would worship her again. She wouldn’t have to live under someone else’s roof, always pleasing them just to keep her status.
She had mapped out her future. In her heart, she even had her target picked out.
Brie heard that this competition had invited Zach to serve as a proctor.
Zach! If she could get close to the eldest son of the Waters, that would be even better.
Lost in her daydreams, Brie’s bad mood from the morning disappeared. She was so proud of herself.
Just as her thoughts were running wild, a large truck sped past the bus and moved into the lane ahead of them
The distance between the two vehicles was dangerously tight.
Airports were usually located far from the city. The bus had already left downtown and was driving along a quiet suburban road.

Traffic was light on this road, so most vehicles were moving fast. The truck ahead suddenly tried to change lanes illegally.
The bus driver didn’t have time to brake. It slammed straight into the back of the truck.
Bang!
The loud crash tore through the air.
When Brie opened her eyes, all she could see was a bright white ceiling.
“W–Where am I?”
Her entire body felt like it had been pinned on bed with invisible nails. She couldn’t move.
Her head throbbed violently. She held it and struggled to sit up.
The moment she moved, it felt as if those invisible nails were driven even deeper, twisting cruelly.
Her whole body felt torn apart. Pain was everywhere.
“You’re awake?”
A familiar voice came from beside her.
“D–Dad…” Brie turned her head and saw Vance sitting by the hospital bed. For a moment, she felt dazed, like she couldn’t tell what day it was.
She remembered sitting on the school bus, heading to the airport. Then the truck suddenly changed lanes. The crash-
“You were in a car accident,” Vance said. “You weren’t the only one hurt. Ten students, one teacher, and the bus driver were all injured to different degrees.”
Brie looked around and realized she was lying in a hospital room.
Before she could speak, Vance continued, “Your injuries were serious. You were unconscious for three days and three nights.”
“What?!” Brie snapped her head up. “Three days?!”
