Chapter 47 The Quiet Promise

It was the perfect chance to meet more people.

Cassia had just returned to her room and sat down when her phone buzzed. Jake called. “Cassia, there’s a charity auction tonight. Interested?”

Cassia sounded bored. “Anything special?”

“Hmm, I heard the auction items are all secret this time. No one knows what they’re selling yet.” Jake frowned. Some hosts just loved being mysterious.

Cassia spoke lazily, “I’m not sure. I’ll decide later.”

If it turned out to be another mess like last time, she’d be annoyed.

“Alright. I’ll keep an eye out. Maybe they’ll bring in some rare treasures,” Jake said. He was an expert at this stuff.

“Sure,” Cassia replied.

At that moment, in the most expensive neighborhood in Vrastin, a sleek luxury sedan stopped in front of a grand manor house.

The manor had a classic, old–world charm in a sleek slate gray. Two stone lion statues stood by the front door, making the whole place feel strong and imposing.

The back door of the car opened. A tall man stepped out, his stride steady and sure. He wore a tailored suit so perfect it didn’t have a single wrinkle. His handsome features were sharp and calm. His brown eyes fixed on the front doors, he walked inside with quick, confident steps.

The central courtyard was beautiful, but he didn’t slow down. He didn’t have the time to admire any of it.

The moment he entered the living room, the butler, Bill Holden, hurried over. His face lit up with joy. “Mr. Draven, you’re back! Good thing, too. Mr. Ned was just talking about you.”

Draven nodded. “Bill, where’s Grandpa?”

Bill had worked for the family for over thirty years. He had watched Draven grow up, so Draven respected him deeply.

Ned huffed, pretending to be angry. “Forget the miracle doctor. I know my own body. What you need to do is find me a granddaughter–in–law.”

“Grandpa, I’ll try,” Draven said, mostly to calm him.

Ned wasn’t easy to fool. One glance and he saw right through Draven. “Always brushing me off with the same lines.”

Draven chuckled. “I know. That’s why you need to stay healthy, so you can hold your great- grandchild someday.”

“You little smooth–talker.” Ned’s eyes softened, and he smiled in satisfaction.

Draven stepped out of the room and found Bill. “Thank you for holding things together these days. I’ll speed up the search for the miracle doctor.”

Bill nodded. “I hope we can find one soon. Mr. Ned’s condition still acts up once in a while.” Ned was getting older. At his age, they had to be very
