“If you want to borrow money, just say so. Why make up such a dumb lie? Do you think we’re as easy to fool as your dad an grandma?”
Brie was dumbfounded.
Seven went on, “Besides, hasn’t the Woods always claimed to be rich? I heard even your allowance is twice what Cassia use get. So how come you suddenly can’t afford this now? You even have to borrow from her?”
Brie had never lowered herself like this before. Her hands clenched tightly at the sides of her skirt.
Fine–borrow, then. As long as she could get that 100 million back, it didn’t matter what she called it.
“The Woods’s total assets… haven’t even reached 100 million yet,” she muttered.
“Oh really? Then your dad must’ve committed something pretty serious if it takes 100 million just to bail him out,” Seven said a mocking smile.
Then he added, “Borrowing money, huh? Sure. One hundred million, right?”
So easy?
Brie looked at Seven and Sterling with excitement.
If she weren’t trying to keep up her classy act, she might have screamed in joy right there.
Once they handed over the money, she would stash it away for herself. No one would ever get it back.
In her mind, she was already imagining herself lying on a mountain of cash, feeling absolutely thrilled.
“But when do you plan to pay it back?” Seven suddenly asked.
Pay it back?
His question shattered her fantasy.
She hadn’t even thought about repayment.
In her mind, getting money depended on skill–if she was clever enough to borrow it, why should she return it?
Besides, Cassia was part of the Woods anyway. Did they really need to repay their own money?
“Well… we’ll return it as soon as possible,” she said aloud, while thinking, Once I get that money, I’ll move to Vrastia for college Who cares about you people then?
“As soon as possible? Exactly how soon is that? Did the Woods approve this loan? After all, you can never be too careful these days Are you borrowing the money, or are you borrowing it on behalf of the Woods? What if you take the money and disappear who do I ask for repayment then?”
His words made her face flush red, then go pale again, trembling with anger, but she forced herself to keep smiling.

They had just met for the first time. Her acting had been flawless–so why could this guy see right through her so easily?
“You don’t need to worry. I’m part of the Woods. I won’t run,” she said with a smile, while silently cursing him in her mind.
“I’m borrowing the money only to help get my father out. Once he’s released, the Woods will repay you.”
“That’s fine. But we’ll need to sign a contract,” Seven replied. “You know how things are these days. It’s easy to lend money b hard to get it back. Nowadays, borrowers act like the bosses, while lenders are the ones doing the begging. No wonder people lending money–unless they’re ready to treat it as charity.”
Brie froze.
“To avoid trouble later, we’ll put everything in writing–signatures, stamps, the whole thing. That way it’ll be easier to collect t debt if needed.”
His move caught her completely off guard.
She wasn’t actually borrowing money–she was trying to take it back. Why would she sign any contract?
She shot Seven an annoyed look, thinking that even though he was handsome, he was much harder to deal with than she expected.
Then she turned to Sterling. The boy simply looked at her with a blank expression, quiet and not very talkative.
She quickly shifted her attention to him.
“The detention center is waiting for the payment. Vance is my her dad suffer in there, would you?”
dad–and also Cassia’s dad. You wouldn’t just stand by and watch
Sterling had held back earlier only because the man was Cassia’s biological father. But hearing Brie grow more shameless with every sentence, he finally said, “Money won’t get Vance released. You just want Cassia’s 100 million, don’t you?”
Caught off guard, Brie felt a little shaken.
But losing to a grade–school kid would be even more embarrassing.
“He can be released. Please!.. I’m begging you,” she said, her eyes turning red as a tear rolled down her cheek.
“Cut the act. That doesn’t work on me,” Sterling said bluntly. “I know how Vance treated Cassia. Even if bail were possible, I don’t think she would agree to lend you any money.”
“He’s her biological father. Shouldn’t she help bail out her own father?” Brie said, frowning.
Her mood changed in an instant. One moment she was in tears; the next, they were gone, and the helpless look on her face had vanished completely.
