Lilian went on listing every assessment requirement to Cassia, promising she’d do everything she could to help.
After all, if her student was guaranteed admission to Vego University, what an illustrious achievement that would be! Those “Outstanding Teacher” accolades in society later would practically have her name on them!
Cassia said nothing.
Cassia listened, bored crept in, her only thinking was, when will this talk end?
It wasn’t that she wasn’t interested in a Vego recommendation; she simply had enough confidence that, even without it, she’d ace the regular SAT and get into Vego anyway.
The guaranteed slot? She couldn’t be bothered to fight for it.
“In short, qualifying for a Vego recommendation isn’t that easy.”
Cassia’s attitude made Lilian think that the Vego guarantee was easy to get.
Frowning, she continued, “The assessment rests on three areas. Besides consistent top grades, you must be versatile in the arts, and on top of that, have a good character.”
Seeing Cassia seemingly not paying attention, Lilian felt a flash of anger, but for Cassia’s sake, she didn’t show it.
“Did you hear me, Cassia? Character is part of the assessment.”
She pushed down on the word “character“, her tone hinting at Cassia’s rude and lacking
manners.
In truth, Cassia had been listening; if Lilian thought otherwise, it was because deep down, this woman still disliked her.
“Cassia, I hope you rein in that icy temper
of
yours.”
Lilian said earnestly, “At your current state, even if grades and arts pass, you’ll never pass character review.”
She went on, “You should learn from Brie in the honors class. Her conduct and poise are excellent.

Learn from Brie?

Cassia sneered inwardly and couldn’t help saying, “Learn what–learn how to play the perfect little saint?”
“You!” Lilian’s eyes widened; she hadn’t expected Cassia to say that.
“How can you talk about another student like that?”
“Why can’t I?”
Cassia almost laughed. If Lilian knew what Brie had done to her, it would blow the woman’s mind.
So, Cassia told Lilian how Brie had framed her some time ago.
“Impossible! Brie is a recognized model student–I don’t believe she’d hurt you.”
That Brie could do something so vile? She didn’t buy it. If it had been Cassia, Lilian might have believed it.
Cassia sighed helplessly.
“I knew it. Without evidence, none of you would ever believe me.”
Lilian, a bit testy, said, “Enough–just manage yourself first.”
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll go.”
Cassia couldn’t be bothered to explain more and turned to leave the office.
“Sigh, such an excellent kid–just no character,” Lilian muttered in frustration, watching Cassia’s back as she left.
Cassia slung her backpack and walked out the school gate.
A silver Mercedes sat domineeringly at Zrario High’s entrance.
The sky wasn’t even fully dark, yet its two headlights blazed–as if begging the whole world to
notice it.
So showy–had to be the family’s head Vance’s car.

Cassia walked over; Vance immediately lowered the window to greet her.
“Hey, Cassia, done with school? Dad’s here to pick you up.”
