The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 220

<Chapter Two Hundred Twenty

Chapter Two Hundred Twenty

Claim

“What happened to the pack? The feral rogues? Ravenna and Thorne?” Diana asked, her voice still weak from exhaustion.

The moment she asked about Ravenna and Thorne, Talon’s expression hardened.

“The pack is safe and secure,” Talon answered. “Enzo took care of everything while I stayed

here with you. Most of the feral rogues died after Thorne was defeated. Whatever dark magic was keeping them alive disappeared when Gideon’s curse left him.”

Talon’s jaw tightened.

“But some managed to escape into the forest before they collapsed. Our warriors are searching the surrounding territories to make sure none of them return.”

Diana nodded slowly.

“And Ravenna?”

A dangerous light entered Talon’s eyes.

“Still missing.”

Diana remained silent.

“Ravenna and Thorne disappeared before the warriors could capture them. Our trackers have been searching all night. So far, they haven’t found anything, but they will.”

His fingers tightened around Diana’s hand.

“We will find them, my love.”

The anger in his voice began to rise again.

“And when we do, I will personally make sure they answer for everything they’ve done.”

Diana’s heart tightened. She knew this would happen. She had known the moment she whispered those words into Ravenna’s ear.

Attack me.

Everyone had seen only one thing. A White Witch who was supposed to protect the Silver Wolf had suddenly attacked her and escaped with the enemy. No one knew the truth. No one except Diana, Artemis, and Ravenna.

Inside their shared mind, Artemis sighed.

“Just as we suspected. Our mate and everyone else believe Ravenna betrayed us.”

“We knew they would,” Diana answered.

“Tell him,” Artemis urged.

Diana glanced around the room. Enzo was standing near the doorway. Nurses and healers occasionally passed through the hallway, and with the enhanced hearing of wolves, Diana knew that anything she said could easily travel farther than she intended.

“Not here,” Diana told Artemis. “There are too many ears listening.”

Artemis reluctantly agreed.

Diana turned back toward Talon.

“Talon.”

“Yes, my love?”

“I want to go back to our suite.”

Talon immediately frowned.

“No.”

Diana raised an eyebrow.

“No?”

“You just woke up. That doesn’t mean you’ve recovered.”

Diana stared at him. Talon knew that look. He had seen it countless times before. Unfortunately, knowing what it meant had never stopped him from arguing with her.

“The healer still needs to examine you,” Talon insisted. “You’ve been unconscious all night, Diana. You’re carrying two pups, and after everything that happened yesterday-”

“Then call the healer.”

Talon blinked.

“Now.”

“Diana-”

“Tell the healer to check me now,” Diana interrupted. “Because I am not staying in this bed any longer than necessary.”

Fenrir groaned inside Talon’s mind.

“Mate is awake for less than ten minutes and already arguing with us.”

Talon almost smiled despite himself.

“At least she’s awake.”

Fenrir immediately softened.

“Yes. I would rather have our stubborn mate arguing with us every day than lying there without opening her eyes.”

Talon looked at Diana. The exhaustion was still visible on her face, but so was the determination he knew all too well. There would be no winning this argument.

“Fine.”

He opened a mind link to the healer.

“But if the healer says you need to stay-”

“I’ll listen to what she has to say.”

Talon narrowed his eyes.

“That wasn’t what I said.”

Diana gave him an innocent smile.

“I know.”

The healer arrived several minutes later. Talon hovered over the entire examination. Diana tolerated it only because she knew how terrified he had been. The healer checked her carefully, paying particular attention to the two pups growing inside her.

Finally, she smiled.

“Everything looks good, Luna.”

Talon immediately stepped closer.

“And the pups?”

“Strong.”

“Both of them?”

“Both of them, Alpha.”

Talon visibly relaxed.

“The Luna is still tired,” the healer continued. “She needs food, water, and plenty of rest. I would also strongly recommend that she avoid unnecessary stress for the next several days.”

Diana looked pointedly at Talon.

“Did you hear that?”

Talon frowned.

“Why are you looking at me?”

“Because you’re usually the source of my unnecessary stress.”

The healer quickly looked down to hide her smile.

Fenrir growled indignantly.

“We are not stressful.”

Artemis immediately responded.

“You hover.”

“We protect.”

“You hover while protecting.”

Diana bit the inside of her cheek to stop herself from laughing. Talon clearly sensed the

silent conversation between their wolves.

“Whatever Artemis is saying about me, I don’t want to know.”

Diana smiled.

“That’s probably for the best.”

Once the healer officially cleared her to leave, Diana immediately pushed herself upright. Talon reached for her. She gave him a warning look.

“I can stand.”

“I know.”

“Then why are you holding my arm?”

“Because I want to.”

Claim

Diana rolled her eyes but allowed it. After everything they had survived, she could give him that much.

The moment Diana stepped outside the pack hospital, she saw the aftermath of the battle. Black Howler had survived. But survival had come with a price. Broken branches and damaged buildings showed where some of the fighting had reached deeper into the territory. Warriors patrolled every path. Healers moved between homes checking on injured pack

members.

Yet life was slowly returning. Doors were opening. Families were emerging. Parents held their pups tightly.

Children who had spent the night inside bunkers were beginning to run around again, although they stayed closer to their parents than usual.

Diana stopped when a small pup passed nearby.

“Are you all right?”

The pup nodded shyly.

“Yes, Luna.”

“Was the bunker scary?”

“A little.”

Diana crouched carefully despite Talon’s immediate worried expression.

“But you’re safe now.”

The pup nodded.

“My mama said the warriors protected us.”

“They did.”

Diana smiled.

“And you were very brave too.”

Claim

The pup beamed before running back toward his mother. Diana continued walking. Every few steps, she stopped.

“Does your family need anything? Has a healer checked your injury? Do you have enough food at home? Let the head omegas know if you need supplies.”

Talon followed silently behind her. He wanted to tell her to stop.

He wanted to carry her directly to their suite, place her in bed, surround her with pillows, and refuse to allow anyone within ten feet of her.

But he understood what she was doing. Diana wasn’t simply checking on pack members. She was showing them that their Luna had survived. Their queen was still there.

And judging by the relief on everyone’s faces when they saw her, Talon knew they needed it. So he stayed close. Close enough to catch her if she stumbled. Close enough to protect her if anything happened. But far enough to allow Diana to be the Luna Queen she needed to be.

Eventually, they reached the pack house. Diana walked directly upstairs toward their Alpha suite. Talon followed. The moment they entered, Diana closed the door. Then locked it. Talon raised an eyebrow.

“Diana?”

She turned toward him. The softness disappeared from her expression.

“Talon, you need to stop the trackers.”

Talon stared at her.

“What?”

“Call Enzo. Tell him to stop searching for Ravenna and Thorne.”

For several seconds, Talon genuinely believed he had misunderstood her.

“Why?”

Diana took a breath.

“Talon-”

“No.”

His expression hardened instantly.
