Chapter Two Hundred Twenty Eight
“Alpha, Luna,” greeted the first witch, stepping forward and bowing her head respectfully to Talon and Diana. From the way the other witches remained slightly behind her, it was clear that she had been chosen to speak on behalf of the group that had traveled to Black Howler.
“My name is Elara,” she introduced herself before gesturing toward the witches standing beside her. One by one, she gave their names and positions within Ravenna’s coven.
Finally, her attention shifted toward the elderly woman standing quietly at the back of the group. Unlike the others, the older witch had not spoken since entering the Alpha’s office. She simply stood there, observing Talon and Diana with calm, intelligent eyes. Despite her age, there was nothing weak or fragile about her presence. Even without saying a word, the power surrounding her was impossible to ignore.
“And this,” Elara continued, her voice becoming noticeably more respectful, “is our Grand Witch, the leader of our coven.”
Diana’s attention immediately settled on the elderly woman. There was something different about her. The white magic surrounding the Grand Witch was incredibly strong–strong enough that Diana could feel its presence from across the room. But unlike Ravenna’s magic, which had always felt warm and soothing, the Grand Witch’s power carried the weight of age and experience. It was controlled, steady, and deeply rooted.
More than her power, however, it was the woman’s eyes that caught Diana’s attention. There was wisdom in them. Knowledge accumulated over many years. And when the Grand Witch finally looked directly at Diana, a faint smile appeared on her face, as though she had been waiting a very long time for the opportunity to finally meet the Silver Wolf.
Diana straightened instinctively. Power. Pure white magic surrounded the Grand Witch. It did not feel aggressive. It did not threaten.
Instead, it felt like standing beneath a tree that had survived thousands of storms. Even Artemis stirred.
“She is strong,” Artemis whispered in their shared mind. “Almost like Ravenna.”
Diana studied the woman more carefully.
“No. Different.”
Ravenna’s power had always felt warm, alive, and healing. This witch’s magic felt older. Refined by decades–perhaps centuries–of knowledge.

For a long moment, neither woman spoke. The Grand Witch simply studied her. Diana suddenly had the uncomfortable feeling that the woman could see far more than she wanted anyone to see. Talon noticed it too. He moved almost imperceptibly closer to Diana.
The old witch’s eyes briefly moved toward him. A tiny smile touched her lips.
“Protective,” she murmured.
Talon’s expression hardened.
“Very,” he answered.
“I would expect nothing less from Lucian’s bloodline.”
Talon went completely still. Diana’s eyes widened. The other witches remained silent. The elderly woman turned her attention back to Diana. Then, unexpectedly, she bowed her head. Not deeply. But respectfully.
“Silver Wolf,” she greeted.
Diana stood.
“We finally meet.”
The old witch smiled sadly.
“I had hoped our first meeting would happen under better circumstances. Perhaps after the curse had been defeated. Perhaps when we could celebrate another Silver Wolf surviving what generations before her had endured.”
Her expression grew solemn.
“But alas… fate rarely gives us what we hope for.”
Diana glanced at Talon. Talon’s jaw tightened. Something about this woman made him uneasy. Not because she appeared hostile. Because she appeared to know too much. The witch placed one hand over her chest.
“I am Seraphina, Grand Witch of Ravenna’s coven.”
Diana nodded respectfully.
“Grand Witch.”
“I have come because Ravenna is missing.”
Diana kept her expression carefully neutral.

“And so is Thorne,” Seraphina continued.
Talon stepped forward.
“We know. My trackers have been searching for them since the battle.”
Seraphina turned toward him.
“And they found nothing.”
It was not a question.
“No.”
“Neither have we.”
The Grand Witch slowly walked farther into the room.
“We searched through blood.”
Another step.
“Through magic.”
Another.
“Through Ravenna’s connection to our coven.”
Then she stopped directly in front of Diana.
“We even attempted to locate Thorne through the remnants of Gideon’s curse.”
Diana’s heart beat slightly faster.
“Nothing?” she asked.
“Nothing.”
Seraphina stared directly into her eyes.
“It is as though both of them ceased to exist.”
The room became very quiet. Talon moved closer to Diana. Seraphina noticed. Again, that faint smile appeared.
“Do not worry, Alpha King. I did not come here to threaten your mate.”
“Good,” Talon replied coldly. “Because that would be unwise.”

Seraphina chuckled.
“So much like Lucian.”
Talon frowned.
“You knew Lucian?”
“No. I am old, Alpha King, but not that old.”
For the first time, Diana smiled. Seraphina’s amusement disappeared quickly.

“But my coven has protected his history for thousands of years. Just as we have protected
the history of Agatha, Gideon, every Silver Wolf who followed…and every white witch who
stood beside them.”
Her gaze returned to Diana.
“Including Ravenna.”
Diana swallowed. Seraphina stepped closer.
“Ravenna was not simply one of my witches. She was my successor. The strongest white witch born to our coven in generations.”
Pain briefly crossed her face.
“She was supposed to lead us after me.”
“I’m sorry,” Diana said sincerely.
Seraphina studied her reaction.
“You cared for her.”
It was another statement rather than a question.
“Yes.”
“You considered her a friend.”
Diana hesitated only briefly.
“Yes.”
The Grand Witch slowly nodded.

“Good.”
Talon frowned.
“Why is that good?”
“Because Ravenna had very few friends.”
Seraphina looked away momentarily.
