The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 231

Chapter Two Hundred Thirty One

Talon, Elara, and the other two witches slowly made their way out of the Alpha office. Talon was the last to leave.

His hand rested on the door handle, but instead of immediately closing it behind him, he stopped and looked back at Diana.

He didn’t say anything. He didn’t have to. Diana knew her mate well enough to understand exactly what that look meant. Change your mind. Tell me to stay. One word from her and Talon would walk straight back into the room, close the door behind him, and plant himself beside her. Grand Witch or not, no one would convince him to leave again.

Diana could also feel Fenrir’s uneasiness through their bond. The large wolf clearly hated leaving his pregnant mate alone with a witch powerful enough that even Artemis had admitted they might not be able to defeat her.

“Talon,” Diana said softly.

His eyebrows lifted slightly. For one hopeful second, he probably thought she was about to ask him to remain. Instead, Diana smiled and gave him a small nod.

“I’ll be fine.”

Talon’s jaw tightened. He clearly disagreed. But after everything they had discussed about trust, he knew he had to respect her decision.

“Call me if you need me,” he finally said.

“I will.”

His gaze moved toward Seraphina. Whatever softness had been in his expression disappeared. The warning in his eyes was unmistakable. Seraphina merely smiled pleasantly at him.

“I promise not to harm your Luna, Alpha King.”

“That would be wise.”

“Talon,” Diana warned.

“What? I am simply agreeing with her.”

Diana shook her head. Seraphina chuckled.

Finally, Talon stepped outside and closed the door behind him. Diana continued staring at the door for several seconds. She knew Talon. He was probably standing directly outside. And if Seraphina so much as raised her voice, Talon would likely come crashing through the door.

“He does not trust us witches very much, does he?”

Diana turned toward Seraphina. The Grand Witch looked amused.

“He trusts Ravenna–or at least, he did before everything that happened,” Diana answered carefully.

“Hmm.”

Seraphina’s expression remained entertained.

“He’s just worried about me,” Diana continued, immediately defending her mate. “Especially after what happened with Ravenna.”

“Ahh, yes.”

Seraphina slowly nodded.

“Ravenna attacking you.”

Something about the way she said the words made Diana tense. Seraphina walked calmly toward one of the chairs and sat down.

“But did she really attack you?”

Diana’s heart skipped.

“What do you mean?”

Seraphina looked at her. For several seconds, the old witch said nothing. Then that strange, secretive smile appeared again.

“Nothing.”

Diana narrowed her eyes. She did not believe that for one second. Artemis immediately

stirred inside her mind.

“She knows something.”

“You think?”

“I dislike that smile.”

“You said you liked her.”

“I can like someone and still be suspicious of them.”

Diana resisted the urge to sigh. She turned her full attention toward Seraphina.

“Grand Witch, will you please tell me why you wanted to speak with me alone?”

Seraphina studied her for a moment before her expression softened.

“First, please call me Seraphina.”

Diana blinked.

“And may I call you Diana?”

There was a brief pause before Seraphina added with a teasing smile,

“Or must I continue calling you Silver Wolf?”

Diana relaxed slightly.

“Of course you can call me Diana.”

“Thank you.”

The Grand Witch settled more comfortably into her chair. Diana remained where she was, still trying to determine exactly what the older witch wanted. Seraphina’s expression slowly changed. The amusement disappeared. What replaced it was something Diana had not expected. Sadness. And gratitude.

“The reason I asked to speak with you privately,” Seraphina began, “is because I wanted to thank you.”

Diana stared at her.

“Thank me?”

“Yes.”

“For what?”

Seraphina did not immediately answer. Instead, she looked toward the window. For several seconds, the powerful Grand Witch seemed lost in memories.
