The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 235

Chapter Two Hundred Thirty Five

Talon sat behind his enormous desk, several reports spread before him. The moment he saw her, his entire attention shifted.

His chair immediately moved backward. He stood.

“Diana.”

His eyes went behind her. Then into the hallway. Then back to her. His expression changed.

“Where is the omega?”

Diana already knew this was coming.

“What omega?”

“The omega I sent to get you.”

“She found me.”

“And?”

“And she told me you wanted me.”

Talon frowned.

“Where is she?”

“I sent her back to work.”

“You sent her back?”

“Yes.”

Talon immediately walked around his desk and approached her.

“I specifically told her to bring you here.”

“And I specifically told her I could manage to walk twenty meters without supervision.”

“Diana-”

Talon placed one hand around her waist and the other beneath her arm as though she might suddenly collapse. Diana stared at his hands. Then at him.

“Talon.”

“What?”

“Remove your hand from underneath my arm.”

“You walked all the way here.”

Diana stared at him incredulously.

“Yes. That is generally how one gets from one room to another.”

Fenrir huffed inside Talon’s mind.

“She is becoming irritated.”

Talon ignored the warning and carefully guided Diana toward the comfortable chair positioned near his desk. Diana allowed him to do it mostly because arguing while standing required more energy. Once she sat, Talon immediately looked over her.

“Are you tired? Any pain? Cramping? Did you feel dizzy while walking? Did the pups-”

“Talon.”

He stopped. Diana stared at him.

“I am pregnant. I am not an invalid.”

“I know that.”

“Do you? Because sometimes I don’t think do.”

Talon sighed.

“I worry. The healer said-”

“The healer told me to rest months ago,” Diana interrupted. “That was after the attack, when my body was recovering and the pregnancy was still vulnerable.”

She pointed toward her stomach.

“I am seven months pregnant now. The healers said I am healthy. The pups are healthy. They did not say I require someone to follow me around the Pack House every time I decide to walk somewhere.”

Talon opened his mouth. Diana raised one finger.

“No.”

His mouth closed. Diana stared at him. Talon sighed.

“Fine. I am trying to be calm.”

“Try harder.”

Fenrir chuckled. Talon ignored him. Diana leaned back in the chair.

“Many females have carried pups before me, Talon.”

“Not my pups.”

Diana blinked. Talon seemed to realize how ridiculous that sounded.

“That came out wrong. What I mean is…”

He sighed.

“You are my mate. Those are our pups. Of course I worry more about you.”

Diana’s expression softened slightly.

“I understand.”

“And you are carrying twins. And you were nearly killed while carrying them.”

There it was. Diana’s irritation faded. Talon looked down at her stomach. His expression changed. Diana knew that look. She had seen it many times over the past several months. The battlefield. Talon still remembered it.

“I cannot forget what happened during Thorne’s attack,” he admitted quietly. Diana remained silent. His jaw tightened.

“I remember running toward you and not knowing whether you were breathing. I remember thinking something had happened to you. To them.”

His hand moved toward her belly. Diana allowed him to touch her. Immediately, one of the pups moved beneath his palm.

Talon froze. Then another movement followed. His entire expression softened. Diana smiled.

“They are fine.”

Talon slowly rubbed his thumb over her stomach.

“So am I.”

“I know.”

“Then stop treating me like I might break.”

Talon looked at her.

“I will try.”

Diana raised an eyebrow.

“Actually try. And stop ordering omegas to escort me through my own Pack House.”

Talon hesitated.

“Talon.”

“Fine.”

Diana smiled triumphantly.

“But only inside the Pack House.”

Her smile disappeared.

“Talon.”

“We compromise.”

“That is not a compromise.”

“It is from my perspective.”

Diana groaned. Artemis laughed. Talon leaned down and kissed Diana’s forehead.

“I’ll try to relax.”

Diana looked up at him.

“That happened months ago, Talon. We cannot keep living in that moment. We cannot stay trapped in one terrible day forever.”

“We survived it. Our pups survived it.”

“There was a letter delivered for you.”

He returned to her and handed it over. Diana stared at the envelope. There was nothing particularly unusual about its appearance.

“There’s no return address,” Talon said.

“No one knows.”

“What do you mean, no one knows?”

“I did not open this one.”
