The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 234

Chapter Two Hundred Thirty Four

Months had passed since the witches from Ravenna’s coven came to Black Howler to speak with Diana and Talon. And a great deal had happened since then. Slowly, life had returned to something resembling normal.

The territories damaged during the war had been repaired. The allied packs had recovered from the attacks of the feral wolves. Patrols had returned to their regular schedules, although Talon had permanently increased security around several vulnerable borders.

Most importantly, there had been no sign of Gideon’s curse. No strange black magic. No unexplained attacks. No feral wolves appearing near their borders. And no sign of Thorne.

As far as Diana knew, Ravenna and Thorne had kept their promise to disappear. Wherever they were, they had remained hidden.

Diana had never told Talon where the transportation charm had taken them, and Talon had never asked again. He had kept his promise. And so had she.

If Ravenna ever contacted her and warned her that Thorne was becoming dangerous again,

Diana would tell Talon immediately.

But that day had never come. Instead, life moved forward.

They had traveled to the Rogue Kingdom for Damon and Willow’s marking and mating ceremony, an event Diana had once thought impossible considering the complicated history between the Damon and Willow. Watching Willow happy had been worth the journey. Even Talon–although reluctant to admit it–had gradually become more accepting of his sister’s life in the Rogue Kingdom.

Afterward, Talon resumed many of his responsibilities as Alpha King. He traveled with Beta Enzo to visit several allied packs, personally checking their recovery after the attacks and discussing their defenses. Diana had wanted to accompany them.

Talon had immediately said no. The healers had agreed with him. That had irritated Diana even more.

During the first months following the battle, the healers had been particularly cautious about her pregnancy. Carrying one pup could be exhausting for a she–wolf. Carrying twins was considerably more demanding.

And Diana’s body had already endured far more than an ordinary pregnant she–wolf should have experienced. She had fought while newly pregnant. She had been exposed to Thorne’s magic. She had pushed herself physically when Artemis was already diverting much of her strength toward protecting their developing pups.

Then Ravenna had thrown her across the battlefield as part of Diana’s desperate plan to help Ravenna and Thorne escape.

Although the healers repeatedly assured her that the twins were healthy, they had insisted that Diana rest as much as possible.

No unnecessary traveling. No training. No fighting. No shifting unless absolutely necessary.

And apparently, according to Talon’s interpretation of those instructions, Diana should barely

leave their bedroom.

Diana had argued. Frequently.

She complained. Repeatedly.

She reminded everyone that she was the Silver Wolf, not a fragile piece of glass. None of it worked. Talon had the healers on his side. Fenrir had Talon’s side.

And, much to Diana’s annoyance, even Artemis occasionally sided with them. Eventually, Diana had acquiesced. Mostly.

Now, months later, Diana was seven months pregnant. And there was absolutely no hiding it anymore.

Her stomach had grown considerably larger over the past several weeks. Because she carried twins, her belly was noticeably bigger than that of a she–wolf carrying a single pup. Walking had become slower. Standing from chairs required more effort than Diana cared to admit. Sleeping comfortably had become almost impossible. And her graceful walk had slowly transformed into something dangerously close to a waddle. Diana refused to acknowledge that last part. Artemis found it hilarious.

That morning, Diana slowly made her way through the Pack House. And everywhere she went, wolves stared at her. Not rudely. Worriedly. An omega carrying fresh linens stopped and watched Diana until she passed. Two warriors standing near the hallway immediately moved aside, giving her enough space to walk through as though Diana required an entire corridor to herself. One of the Gammas looked from Diana’s face to her enormous pregnant belly and

then back to her face.

Diana stopped. The Gamma immediately looked away.

Diana narrowed her eyes.

“What?”

“Nothing, Luna.”

“You were staring.”

“No, Luna.”

“You absolutely were.”

Claim

The Gamma suddenly became fascinated by the wall. Diana rolled her eyes and continued walking.

“This is Talon’s fault,” she muttered.

Artemis stretched lazily inside their shared mind.

“Obviously.”

“He has made everyone paranoid.”

“Our mate worries.”
