Xavier rubbed her head. "I'll take you."
Daisy tugged at his sleeve.
Xavier looked down. "Hmm? What is it?"
Daisy pulled a faded, heavily washed, but incredibly clean cloth from her pocket and carefully wiped the rainwater from Xavier's ear.
Xavier couldn't help but pat her head again. He asked, "If you've never been to Fairview before, how did you sell all the mushrooms you picked?"
"Donovan in the village buys the mushrooms. He collects a whole lot of them and then takes them to the city to sell."
"Oh. So like the time before, how much did you get for picking that entire basket?"
"Three dollars."
"Three?!" Xavier's expression instantly contorted.
Even the live chat was horrified.
[What? Three dollars for a whole basket? The wild mushrooms I buy at the market start at forty dollars a pound at the very least!]
[What kind of heartless scammer is this buyer?]
[He's totally exploiting a little kid! I can't watch this anymore! I seriously think this entire village is messed up.]
[Does Daisy actually have fans now? You're insulting the whole village just to defend her? Three dollars is generous enough. How is the middleman supposed to make money if he doesn't lower the price? He's not running a charity. You guys don't know shit.]
The chat quickly devolved into another fierce argument over whether Daisy was good or bad.
Meanwhile, Xavier was boiling with rage. *This trash village actually thinks I'm going to turn it into a tourist hot spot after I finish filming?*
*Like hell.*
*They should be grateful I don't just bulldoze it to the ground.*
"Wait a minute, Master Sterling. Don't go any further," a crew member's voice suddenly called out from behind the camera.
The chat finally snapped back to reality from their pointless bickering:
[What's going on?]
"It looks like a landslide ahead," the crew member said, frowning.
Xavier squinted into the distance. The road stretching forward was completely severed by a massive wall of black earth.
It really was a landslide. He had been so focused on talking to Daisy that he hadn't noticed it at all.
"Perfect. We can skip school and go back to rest," Xavier said, finding the situation ideal. He figured he'd just help Daisy pick mushrooms later.
Daisy nodded in disappointment and turned to walk back through the muddy puddles.
But they had barely taken a few steps.
