Listening to this, Xavier almost laughed out loud.
What kind of delusional fantasy were they living in?
Even if he had money, he wouldn't give a single cent to these people.
"Sigh. Dealing with him is one thing, but I never expected him to run into Daisy the second he entered the village." The Mayor sounded deeply anxious.
"What?" The son's voice cracked.
"Keep your voice down!"
"Right, right. How could the timing be so bad?"
"God knows if that wretched little girl figured something out."
"How could she? She's just a kid, she doesn't know sh*t."
Xavier's expression slowly morphed into something dark.
It sounded like the Mayor's family was harboring some twisted, malicious agenda against Daisy!
Without hesitating, he pulled out his phone and hit the record button.
"If Xavier finds out the truth..."
"Dad, you're overthinking this. So what if he finds out? He's just here to shoot a show. Who's going to care about some orphan girl with no parents?"
"You didn't see it! You didn't see how well he treated her today. He gave her his own clothes, dried her hair, bought her shoes..."
The son fell completely silent.
After a long pause, he finally spoke again. "Don't worry about it. Just focus on keeping him happy. Make sure the young master is absolutely comfortable in our home. As for Daisy..."
The son let out a cold, malicious sneer. "I'll go talk to her grandpa. Toss him a hundred bucks, and I guarantee he'll keep Daisy locked down. She'll never get anywhere near Xavier again."
By now, Xavier's fists were clenched so tight his knuckles were white.
Those absolute scumbags!
What were they trying to pull?
Plotting against a little kid!
Completely oblivious to the fact that Xavier had heard every single word, the Mayor laughed delightedly and clapped his son on the shoulder. "Going to college really makes a difference. You're so smart."
His face like thunder, Xavier took two slow steps down the stairs.
He wanted to smash his fists right into their faces.
But hearing the arrogant, triumphant laughter of the father and son, he suddenly stopped in his tracks.
Punching them a few times was way too easy...
Seeing the underage teenager plant himself behind the wheel, the crew practically had their souls leave their bodies.
He wasn't even eighteen yet, he couldn't drive!
"Alright, alright! We'll help you change houses!" A staff member rubbed his aching temples and scrambled after him.
When the Mayor heard the commotion and rushed out, he was clutching his pants with one hand—having lost his belt somewhere—and staring in absolute horror. "Where is Master Sterling going?"
"Master Sterling! Master Sterling! You can't leave!"
With a slam of the gas pedal, the car sped off, leaving the Mayor coughing on a cloud of exhaust fumes.
Coughing violently, the Mayor wailed in despair, "Master Sterling, you're supposed to do the exchange with our family! You can't go anywhere else! Master Sterling!"
*We're ruined! Completely ruined!*
Inside the car, a staff member nervously gauged Xavier's mood, utterly bewildered as to how the Mayor had managed to offend the boy so deeply in just one night.
Xavier sat with his eyes closed, remaining entirely silent, his expression fierce and unyielding.
The conversation between the Mayor and his son kept replaying in his mind.
Yet the image flashing before his eyes was entirely different—
It was the moment Daisy's shoe had fallen off. When he looked down, he had seen her tiny feet covered in scratches from briars and thorns. Didn't that hurt?
