Alice choked and started coughing, and Danny almost dropped his bowl.

Alice grabbed Laurel’s soft little hand and asked anxiously, “Laurel, did Sebastian treat you badly? Did he force you to cook? What else did he do to you? Don’t be scared, tell me. Even if my family can’t beat him, our Ignifox tribe will step in and save you!”

“Uh…” Laurel’s face went dark as she pulled her hand back. “Sebastian treated me really well. He was gentle and considerate. I liked cooking and chose to do it myself. He didn’t want me to get tired, so he did most of the heavy work and chores. I just cooked the food and adjusted the seasoning. Really, don’t worry. I’m good at cooking, and seeing everyone enjoy the food made me super happy.”

As she finished speaking, she reached for Sebastian’s hand and gently rubbed his fingertips.

Sebastian lowered his gaze and looked at her softly.

Laurel’s defense of him just now had melted his heart.

“Oh … I see. Haha … that was unexpected,” Alice said awkwardly. She suddenly wondered if she had just offended that ice-faced guy with terrifying combat power.

As for Danny and Marvin, they felt not only shocked but deeply envious.

They couldn’t understand how Sebastian’s mate could be so gentle.

Her voice was soft, her smile sweet.

She even cooked willingly.

And she defended him.

The two of them sat close together, looking intimate. The way the little female relied on Sebastian made every beast jealous.

After Alice finished eating, Danny and Marvin finally sat down to eat as well.

unison.

Watching the scene, Laurel could only think of one phrase. “Queen energy.”

At that moment, the matriarchal hierarchy of this beast world was on full display.

Noticing Laurel staring at her mates, Alice smiled and introduced them. “This is Danny Burgess, a one-star Imperial Tier Fenfrost. He’s my first mate and my favorite. I settled in the Fenfrost tribe because of him. Oh right, he and your Sebastian are good friends.”

The gray-haired male smiled at Laurel and nodded in greeting.

Alice continued, “This is Marvin Lipsey, a four-star Earth Tier Ignifox. Aren’t they both handsome?”

The wine-red-haired male flashed Laurel a bright smile, showing two little white fangs.

Marvin was stunningly beautiful. Like Alice, he had a pair of seductive brown fox eyes.

Out of pure appreciation for beauty, Laurel couldn’t help glancing at Marvin a couple more times.

Sebastian noticed her gaze and quietly moved closer to her.

Worried that the two handsome men might get scolded later, Laurel took the initiative and offered to teach everyone how to cook.

Alice was delighted. She narrowed her fox eyes and said she would bring her mates over again tomorrow to eat and learn on the spot.

This was the first time in Laurel’s life that she had hosted friends. She was a little excited and said happily, “You’re all warmly welcome to come eat!”

Sebastian coldly watched their enthusiastic interaction. When he thought about Alice shamelessly dragging her entire family over to freeload again tomorrow, his temples throbbed.

After the meal, the three males started cleaning up.

The two females sat at the cave entrance, chatting as the evening breeze blew.

“Alice, what do you want to eat tomorrow? Is there anything you really like?” Laurel asked.

“Curlyhorn beast! I want curlyhorn fondue again. It was so good!” Alice replied excitedly.

“Haha, okay. Then how many mates are you bringing tomorrow? I need to figure out how much meat to prepare.”

“Seven mates, plus me, so eight in total.” Alice stuck her tongue out shyly.

“What?! Seven? You have seven mates?!” Laurel exclaimed.

“Yeah.” Afraid Laurel might think she had too few mates, Alice explained, “I’m only 17 beast cycles old. I just became an adult, so I don’t have many mates yet. I’m very popular, okay!”

Beastman came of age at 16 beast cycles old. After their coming-of-age ceremony, they could form bonds.

Laurel started counting on her fingers. Alice was 17 beast cycles old. One beast cycle equaled five years. That meant in five years since adulthood, Alice had taken seven mates, averaging one new mate every eight months.

“Wow, Alice, you’re amazing,” Laurel said sincerely.

“What about you? How old are you?” Alice asked casually.

“Twenty…” Laurel stopped halfway through. Using beastman calculations, she barely counted as five beast cycles old. But the way she looked, she definitely didn’t resemble a lively little cub.

“What?!” Alice exclaimed. “You’re 20 beast cycles old and you still don’t have a bonding mark? You haven’t bonded yet? How could Sebastian possibly hold himself back?!”

She clicked her tongue. “Never mind. There’s a coming-of-age ceremony in the tribe in a few days. I’ll take you with me. Let’s get your bonding mark formed first.”

“Bonding mark?” Laurel asked.

“Yeah!” Alice pointed to the bonding mark at her waist and said, “Look. This is my bonding mark. It’s the same as my beast form, a six-tailed Ignifox.”
