Chapter 118 The Water Ghost Is Here
When they passed the bathroom, they saw nurses hauling Neil out.
He smelled so bad that he had passed out cold.
“Ms. Oracle, about Mr. Jynn … ” Darcy started.
“I get it,” she said simply, not bothered. “Let’s just go to the river and finish the ritual.”
It was pitch-black by the river, the moonlight barely touching the water.
The stillness made Darcy’s skin crawl, but Venus seemed unfazed. She opened the trunk, calmly took out the supplies, and set them on a rock.
She lit the frankincense and uncapped the unguentaria, then handed Darcy some ashes.

“Scatter it on the water,” she instructed. Then she spoke clearly into the night, “Water ghosts of this river, I know your pain. You’ve spent years trapped beneath the surface-cold as ice at night, scorched by the sun by day, and pierced like needles when it rains. It’s unbearable. But if
your time you haven’t killed anyone, you may follow my light to rest on shore. Wait here until ends, and the reaper will come for you.”
She burned more candles.
Soon, peaceful spirits rose from the river, stepping across the candles. They gathered joyfully around the flames.
“We won’t have to suffer anymore!”
“Thank you, Miss!”
“Thank you!”
Darcy could not see them, only felt a chill sweep across his skin.
Venus glanced at the dark water. That giant, decaying mass was still lurking below, watching her.
“Alright, job’s done. Let’s go home.”
On the way back, Darcy asked, “Ms. Oracle, that ghost escaped earlier. Does that mean it’ll still come after Sophia?”
She nodded. “Yes. Within three days, it’ll strike again. If it misses that window, it’ll have to wait years for another chance.”

He frowned. “You said being a water ghost is painful-cold at night, boiling hot by day, pierced when it rains. Is that true? I thought ghosts couldn’t feel pain.”
“You’re wrong,” she said quietly. “They may not have bodies, but their souls feel everything, and it’s worse than any physical pain.”
Darcy sighed. “Those who jumped in the river thought death would bring peace, but it’s even more miserable.”
“Exactly. That’s why I did this ritual. It is to shield them from the wind and rain, at least for a while.”
He admired her kindness.
For someone the world called “evil,” she was far more compassionate than most.
If the Jynns ever learned what Venus was truly capable of, they would regret how they treated her.
When she got home, she warmed some tea, drank it, and went straight to bed.
That night, at the hospital.
Lucas sat beside the bed, eyes red, exhausted, and worried.
He had not left Sophia’s side-afraid that “crazy woman” might sneak back in.
He muttered some curses at Venus when he remembered what she did.
“Sophia, my precious girl, please wake up. If your mom could see you like this, she’d be heartbroken. Wake up, okay? I promise, I’ll let you go to that film academy you wanted.”
He had never liked the idea of her joining showbiz, but right now, nothing mattered more than her waking up.
Lucas sighed.
The light in the ward flickered.
He looked toward the half-open door.
The hallway outside was dark.
Something felt wrong.
