But once inside, he was surprised. The place was cozy and warm, nothing like a haunted house

at all.

“Didn’t expect someone from the countryside to have such decent taste,” Lucas muttered, glancing around.

Darcy tugged his sleeve and whispered, “Seriously? You’re doing it again.”

Lucas ran his hand along the sofa. “Huh, real leather. This must’ve cost tens of thousands. Guess Venus isn’t short on cash.”

Darcy sighed.

I’d been the one who asked Jim to buy that, actually.

June brought over some tea, but Lucas still could not stop nitpicking. Even she started getting irritated.

“When’s she coming down? I don’t have all day,” Lucas said after barely ten minutes.

June frowned. “Ms. Oracle’s busy. If you’re in a hurry, you can leave.”

Lucas, who was used to being treated like royalty, flared up instantly.

“I came here myself to ask her for help, and she’s making me wait? What, is she doing this on purpose because I scolded her before?”

June rolled her eyes. “You can leave anytime. No one’s stopping you.”

Lucas slammed a hand on the table, fuming.

Darcy quickly grabbed his arm. “Mr. Jynn, if you keep this up, I’m done helping. If the water ghost comes back for Sophia, you’ll be on your own.”

That finally made Lucas sit back down.

Twenty minutes later, Venus finally came downstairs after freshening up.

The moment Lucas saw her, he shot up, sarcasm dripping from his voice. “Well, Ms. Oracle, you really do know how to make an entrance. No one’s ever kept me waiting this long before.”

He had always been the one people waited for, never the other way around.

Venus looked at him coolly. “You. Get out.”

“You!” Lucas clenched his jaw, glancing at Darcy for help.

Darcy pretended not to notice, sipping his tea.

Lucas pressed his lips tightly together.

“It’s my fault. Since I came asking for help, I should’ve been more polite.”

Lucas’s face flushed a little as he lowered his pride and said, “I’m here to ask you to catch the water ghost…”

Venus arched a brow. “Oh? I thought you didn’t believe in ghosts. Don’t go spreading nonsense.”

Lucas’s face turned red. “I-I apologize for what I said before. I’d never seen anything like that, so I didn’t believe it. But now I know better. Ms. Oracle, please don’t take it personally. I’m sorry, alright?”

June snorted. “Wow, rich people sure have a funny way of apologizing-all proud like someone owes them money.”

Lucas’s mouth twitched. He forced himself to bow slightly and handed over a check.

“Ms. Oracle, my daughter’s being haunted by a water ghost. I’m offering a generous payment if you’d help.”

June peeked at the amount, and her jaw dropped. “Two hundred thousand?”

Lucas smirked a little. “That’s just the deposit. I’ll pay another 400,000 once the job’s done. I asked around, so I know 30,000 is the usual rate, so I’m offering double.”

Darcy rubbed his temples.

Ms. Oracle saved him and his grandpa-he even gave her a house and furniture worth a few million in total.

It might not be much, but at least it showed some sincerity.

Meanwhile, Drake spent over a hundred million in one go.

Lucas only offered 600,000, so what was he so smug about?

Lucas noticed Venus’s silence and frowned. “What, not enough?

“Six hundred thousand’s plenty.”

Venus ignored him and sipped her tea calmly.
