Chapter 83 The Chaos in the Hospital Ward

Venus was so angry she almost wanted to punch someone.

Once she was awake, she couldn’t fall back asleep. Venus decided to work out until seven, then had breakfast and went straight to the hospital.

The hallway outside the room was packed.

There were Ava’s in-laws, her brother, Mark Clayton, sister-in-law, Patience Clayton, and a crowd of relatives.

They were fighting over the car accident compensation like wild animals, completely ignoring whether Ava was even alive. The shouting got so bad that people started shoving and throwing punches right there in the hospital room.

“Stop yelling! This is a hospital! Patients need quiet. Ahhhh!”

Rowan tried to break up the fight, but Mark smacked him across the face. Rowan stood frozen in disbelief.

“My sister’s business is none of your concern! What? Linette paid you to kick me out?” Mark shouted.

“I’m not leaving! My niece is dead, my sister’s still lying here in pain, and that money should go to me!”

Linette Menzie, Ava’s mother-in-law, wasn’t happy about this. Her mean face twisted with greed. “Why should the payout go to you? The one who died was my granddaughter—my real, flesh-and-blood granddaughter! That money belongs to my family!

“Your sister married into another family. She’s no longer one of your family. How dare an outsider meddle in our business? Have a little shame!”

Mark let out a bitter laugh. “Oh really? When your son died and got a settlement, why didn’t you share a dime with Ava and Mia? Now you suddenly remember they’re family? Too late for that!

“Everyone knows it was a rich family who hit Mia. That payout’s going to be a fortune! Linette, you already pocketed your son’s settlement; you’re not getting a single cent this time!”

“Bah!” Linette spat right in his face. “That’s my granddaughter’s death compensation! Her last name’s Menzie, not Clayton! You’ve got some nerve trying to take her money!”

The two families kept arguing until the room turned into a war zone.

Neither side would back down. No one noticed that Ava, lying pale on the hospital bed, was struggling to breathe, too angry and weak to speak.

By the time Venus arrived, the place was packed. Both families had brought their relatives for backup. They crowded the hallway so tight not even a breeze could get through.

“Security! Security!” Rowan squeezed his way out of the mob, nearly losing a shoe in the process. When he spotted Venus standing calmly outside the door, he almost wanted to cry.

“You’re too late,” he groaned. “Ava’s family blocked her in. Everyone’s fighting over the settlement money.”

He rubbed the swollen side of his face where someone had smacked him earlier with a complicated look.

Venus said coolly, “In a situation like this, I suggest calling the cops.”

The moment the word “cops” came out of her mouth, Patience spun around, her face twisted with rage. “Who the heck are you, little brat? Mind your own business before someone teaches you a lesson!

“You call the cops, and I’ll make sure you regret ever being born!” she snapped, waving her hands like she owned the place.

Venus let out a faint smile.

Without warning, she stepped forward and slapped Patience hard across the face. The sound echoed through the hallway.

“You-You hit me?”

Patience blinked in shock, her brain buzzing. When it finally registered, she exploded. “I’ll kill you, you crazy witch!”

That did it. The rest of the relatives turned their fury toward Venus. The Claytons surged forward like a mob ready for a brawl.

Rowan, quick on his feet, threw his arms up and yelled, “Back up! Everyone, back up!

“She’s got a medical record! This girl’s mentally unstable! She just came here to refill her meds! If anyone yells at her, she’ll start swinging again!”

The moment someone whispered that Venus had a mental disorder, everyone instantly backed three yards away from her. No one dared stand close.

These days, a mental illness is like a free pass. You could hurt someone and walk away untouched. If you got attacked, well, that was just your bad luck.

Both sides took a step back, too afraid to cross Venus.

The noisy hallway fell silent. The room that was full of chaos seconds earlier turned dead quiet.

No one dared to make a noise.

Everyone stood frozen, terrified that one wrong word might set Venus off and turn her into a storm of fists.

Venus slowly turned toward Rowan, who started the rumor.
