He could get jealous too.

Bianca smiled into the phone. "Are you jealous?"

Milo's voice softened, almost like he was pouting. "Yeah, I am. We're completely in love, but just because some piece of paper hasn't been finalized, you're technically still his wife. It's incredibly frustrating.

I just want to sweep you away right now, throw a massive wedding, and tell the whole world you're mine."

"I want to be completely free of him too. Just give it a little more time."

"I will."

Milo hung up to get back to his grind, and Bianca threw herself into her work.

By lunchtime, Mathis arrived at Stellaride to pick Bianca up. He was wearing an impeccably tailored, bespoke suit, exuding an air of dark, aristocratic elegance that was almost suffocatingly attractive.

Tessa asked with a gossipy grin, "Mr. Jagger, here to whisk our Director away?"

Mathis nodded. "Yes. Taking her to lunch."

Tessa scoffed playfully. "You're lacking in the romance department. You couldn't even bring a bouquet? A thousand roses would've definitely made the rest of us jealous."

Mathis smiled bitterly on the inside. Bianca rejected almost everything he gave her.

The last time he tried to apologize with a bouquet of purple hyacinths, she had tossed it in the trash without a second thought.

Surprisingly, he replied to Tessa with an even temper. "Next time."

Bianca was supposed to sign the asset transfer papers at Dawnstar later. Since Hector was out of town, she had arranged for another lawyer from his firm to review the documents.

Mathis had brought Aveline with him. The moment she saw her mother, she practically flew into her arms, giggling happily.

"Mommy, I missed you!"

"I missed you too." Bianca peppered the little girl's soft cheeks with kisses.

Mathis stood there, lost in a daze. During that one perfect month they shared, she used to kiss him like that, too.

Now, no matter how impeccably dressed he was, she treated him like he was invisible.

Was Milo really that spectacular? Was he truly the only man she could ever see?

It suddenly struck him that Bianca used to be exactly like that with him.

She had never even clicked on the videos of handsome guys Xanthe used to send her.

Her social media feeds were exclusively filled with tech news, research on her and her mother's illnesses, and the occasional funny meme to destress.

Back then, his own paranoia had convinced him she was secretly in love with Jax, which was why he had been too terrified to just ask her if she loved him.

The ghosts of his past mistakes ambushed him again, refusing to let him breathe.

Bianca looked at him, slightly confused. "You brought Aveline to work with you?"

When Aveline was just a year old, Mathis had ordered the executive sky terrace converted into an indoor playground.

It was fully enclosed, so she could play there regardless of the weather.

"When I don't have major projects, I bring her to the office," he explained.
