Xanthe nodded, her heart aching for Bianca.
"You have to take good care of the baby," she whispered.
"I know. Get some sleep," Bianca replied. "I've got to work overtime tomorrow so I can stay far away from those two."
If she didn't have to work, Bianca could easily sleep for twelve hours straight right now.
Xanthe frowned with concern. "Can your body handle all these extra hours while pregnant?"
"It's better than watching them flaunt their relationship every day. Working is nothing."
Xanthe couldn't argue with that. She cupped Bianca's face, murmuring, "But you're losing so much weight. Is the food at work not sitting well with you?"
"My appetite just hasn't been great lately."
She had two meals a day at the Progenix Tech cafeteria, but facing those two at work completely killed her appetite.
"Once this project is done next week, I'll finally be free."
She had been working tirelessly, day and night, all for the chance to escape the man she had once poured her entire heart into. Thinking about it now, her so-called marriage felt like a cruel joke.
Xanthe's eyes lit up. "Okay. When the time comes, we'll raise the baby together."
Bianca chuckled. "You don't need to stress over that. I make a six-figure salary; I can afford to support both the baby and you. Just knowing you care is enough to make me happy."
"So, when are you going to tell Cillian?"
"Let's wait until after the baby is born."
...
Mathis didn't return to the Begonia House until 1:00 AM.
After hitting a wall with Bianca earlier, he had headed straight to a bar, calling Payton Mills to keep him company.
Payton couldn't understand why he was suddenly drinking so heavily. "Did you and Cynthia get into a fight?"
Mathis hung up without another word.
Ever since Bianca moved out, Mathis rarely went back to the Begonia House.
She hadn't taken any of the gifts he had given her. At first, he assumed it was just a ploy for attention.
But then she used his card to buy another house. It seemed she really was abandoning this home. Just like when she first moved in, she always moved with a clear, calculated purpose.
She used to tell him that this was their home and that she wanted to take good care of it.
Standing in the walk-in closet, Mathis stared at the designer clothes and jewelry she had left behind. It seemed she never actually liked any of these flashy things.
He walked back to the master bedroom and made a call to Quincy.
The following night at eight o'clock, a massive fireworks display erupted outside the Dawnstar Capital building, so bright it illuminated Bianca's office at Progenix Tech.
Brilliant bursts of color bloomed across the night sky, one after another, weaving intricate patterns into the darkness in an overwhelming display of romance.
