The two beastfolk looked gratefully toward the one who had spoken up for them. When they saw the white-haired beastman standing there, their smiles froze again. He stood tall and straight, looking down at the three of them like they were bugs beneath his feet.
One of his eyes was slightly narrowed, and the killing intent leaking from it was no weaker than the beastman who had just leaned over them moments ago.
The grateful smiles froze on their faces.
Under Zane’s urging, Rufus finally straightened up. He shot the two beastfolk one last glare before following Zane into the crowd. Soon, both of them disappeared from sight.
Once their terrifying presence was completely gone, the beastfolk finally breathed again. They looked at each other with lingering fear still written across their faces.
The boar beastfolk who had been kicked away came over with a huge bump on his head. Just as he opened his mouth to speak, the other two quickly covered it. Then they nervously looked around, terrified that the two dangerous beastmen might suddenly appear again.
“Shh!”
The boar beastfolk nodded weakly and didn’t dare say another word.
Meanwhile, hidden within the packed crowd, Rufus let out a cold snort.
“Why did you stop me back there? Those idiots actually said only that pretty boy was good enough for Claire. I should’ve beaten them flat!”
His voice was full of anger. He even sounded annoyed at Zane too.
The dark look in Zane’s eyes faded a little. Though he kept walking, his gaze stayed fixed on Claire high above on the altar.
“Don’t forget our plan,” Zane said calmly. “If you attract Finlay’s attention too early, everything will fall apart.”
“Hmph.”
Rufus clearly didn’t care much, but he was smart enough not to argue again.
Then Zane added lightly, “Claire seems different now. I think she’s already reached Level 2.”
He had been watching her for quite a while. Even though he recognized her instantly, she still felt different from before. Claire looked softer now, more beautiful. Her figure had filled out

too. A strange charm surrounded her, making it hard to look away.

Her face was still smooth and pale, without any visible beast mark. But based on how well he knew her, Zane was certain she had leveled up. And not just a little. She had definitely become a Level 2 female.
Rufus looked shocked. He stared at the white figure wrapped in a snowy cloak. Claire’s face still looked delicate and cute as always. No matter how he looked at her, she didn’t seem like a Level 2 female at all.
“Even Claire reached Level 2? No way. Are you sure you’re not seeing things? I don’t see any beast mark on her.”
Rufus looked her over again and again but still couldn’t figure it out.
Zane smiled slightly. He had expected Rufus wouldn’t notice.
“Pay attention to the details.”
After saying those words, he stopped explaining and left Rufus to figure it out himself.
Rufus became even more annoyed and mocked him right away.
“Yeah, yeah. You’re always the sharp one.”
Zane wasn’t bothered by his remark. Instead, pride slowly appeared on his face as he looked at Claire, almost like he was watching a masterpiece he had spent years shaping finally shine before the world.
The two men’s burning, emotional stares stayed fixed on Claire. She felt something strange and couldn’t help searching through the crowd below.
But there were too many beastfolk. She looked for a long time without realizing that the two faces she missed so much were staring right up at her from the crowd.
As time passed, every step of the altar filled with people. They were all important figures in
Grimstone.
Some were trusted advisors to the city lord. Some were respected elders in the city. Others were wealthy beastfolk who had donated large amounts of supplies before.
They stood beside long wooden tables, quietly talking among themselves while waiting for the ceremony to begin.
Finally, a loud voice rang through the air. The Sky Rite was about to start.
“Please welcome the city lord!”

Important people always arrived last.
All the beastfolk turned at the same time and looked toward the special path that had been cleared through the crowd.
A huge, imposing figure slowly appeared before everyone.
Claire felt Marcus tighten his grip on her hand. She sensed the tension beside her and looked seriously at the approaching beastfolk.
So this was Finlay.
In human form, he stood over seven feet tall, bigger than any beastfolk Claire had ever seen.
He wasn’t just tall. He was unbelievably muscular, especially across his upper body. His fur tunic stretched tightly over his massive chest. His body formed a sharp V-shape that made his waist look narrow.
In truth, his waist was three times wider than Claire’s.
His arms bulged with thick muscle. They were so large that he couldn’t even keep them close to his sides. They stuck outward and swung heavily as he walked.
Even his stride looked arrogant. The way his body swayed with each step made people feel
uneasy.
But what shocked Claire most was the thick brown fur covering him. His arms, legs, exposed chest, and even his face were covered in fur nearly half an inch long. He looked like a giant brown bear walking upright.
And he really was a brown bear beastfolk.
Still, his human form looked far more beast-like than normal.
As Claire watched the massive bear beastfolk lumber closer, thick fur covering his towering body, a crushing pressure tightened in her chest.
