Chapter 178 Claire’s Caution
If Claire stayed any touger, she was delittitely going to throw up.
But just as she was about to leave the area of the Sky Rie, a hand blocked her path.

The hand was bare, not covered by animal hide. Several scars ran parallel across it. They had already. scabbed over, but it was still obvious that the injury had once been extremely severe, nearly tearing apart all the muscles in the arm.
Claire’s pupils contracted.
She recognized those wounds.
They had been caused by a giant panda’s bite.
The wounds Marcus had left behind.
That meant the owner of this arm was the same person who had attacked her and drugged her that night.
Claire followed the arm and looked at the beastfolk blocking her way.
It was Maxim.
The long-unseen Maxim had become much thinner. Loose, sagging skin hung from his body in an exaggerated manner, making him look like an elderly man nearing the end of his life.
But there was no doubt that face belonged to Maxim,
He was actually the one who had attacked her.
Hatred flashed in Claire’s eyes, but her stomach was churning too violently. She could only deal with her urgent problem first and settle the score with Maxim later.
She glared at him and tried to go around him from the other side, but Maxim stepped in front of her again.
Maxim grinned as he stretched out an arm.

“Mrs. Holland, the Sky Rite is still in progress. Leaving now would be against the rules, wouldn’t it?”
He stubbornly refused to let Claire leave.
Another even stronger wave of the bloody smell rushed into Claire’s nose.
She could no longer hold it back. The food she had eaten earlier came rushing out like a runaway horse.
The unfortunate Maxim happened to be standing directly in front of her. He was splattered across the face with vomit, and his expression instantly twisted with rage.
“Female! You’re dead!”
Chapter 170 Claire’s Caution
Finished
Maxim had never suffered such humiliation before. Futions beyond reason, he threw a punch at her.
Because they were standing so close. Claire did aot react in time. There was still a bit of saliva at the corner of her mouth, and she was busy wiping it away. She completely failed to notice the powerful punch coming toward her.
At that moment, Marcus’s voice rang out from nearby.
“Maxim, stop!”
Before Maxim’s punch could reach Claire, Marcus slammed into him with tremendous force.
Maxim felt as if he had been struck by a solid wall. His body flew backward, and he crashed to the ground, coughing up blood.
He felt as though all his internal organs had shifted out of place. The pain was so intense that he could not speak.
Marcus remained where he stood and casually brushed off his hide clothing before extending a hand toward Claire with a smile.
“Claire! Come with me!”
Claire was already feeling much better. After vomiting, her stomach had finally settled down, though a lingering unpleasant taste remained in her mouth, making her very uncomfortable.
She reached out her hand and was about to place it in Marcus’s palm when Davy’s voice sounded in her mind, automatically translating for her.
“Marcus, the Sky Rite is at a critical stage right now. You can’t leave your post at a time like this. Why not let an attendant take your mate to clean up while you stay here a little longer?”
Finlay’s voice was loud enough for every beastfolk on and around the altar to hear clearly. Immediately. everyone turned to glare at Marcus.
The deer priest walked over and respectfully said to Marcus, “Mr. Holland, no one is allowed to leave during the Sky Rite. Leaving midway is considered a serious act of disrespect. The Beast God will become angry. If the Beast God brings punishment upon us, can you bear the responsibility?”
As soon as those words were spoken, the other beastfolk became even more furious. They gathered around and completely blocked Marcus and Claire’s path.
Marcus’s ears twitched. These beastfolk were not particularly high-ranked, but there were a lot of them. They had formed a tight encirclement, and breaking through it in a short amount of time would not be
easy.
Claire glanced around at the beastfolk staring at them aggressively before tugging on Marcus’s sleeve.
“No need to fight a losing battle. Just wait here for me. I’ll be back very soon.”
She only needed to find a slightly secluded place and rinse her mouth with some water from her space. It would not even take two minutes.

ce Claire had said so, Marcus stopped insisting.
He simply warned her, “Gaire, don go too far from me. Be carefuk
“Okay. I’ll just be over by that corner.
Finished
Claire pointed toward a corner at the very edge of the ceremonial square not far away. A path branched off there, and the steady airflow should help carry away some of the blood smell.
Marcus nodded and watched as Claire followed a female attendant dressed in servant clothing toward the
corner.
When she reached the corner, Claire turned around and smiled at Marcus, giving him a reassuring look. Then she turned back and refused the water the attendant was holding.
“No thanks. I brought my own water.”
There was no way she would use the water that attendant had been carrying around. Who knows what they might have slipped into it?
Under the attendant’s astonished gaze, Claire pulled out a bamboo flask from beneath her loose hide clothing. In reality, she had just taken it from her storage space.
The container held hot spring water. The hot spring water could neutralize toxins, so it might help with the nausea caused by the smell of blood.
She just did not know whether it would help with ringing ears as well.
The attendant was puzzled. Why does this female bring a bamboo flask with her everywhere? She’s way too cautious.
Wouldn’t that make it impossible for her to complete the task the city lord had assigned to her?
