The Ultimate Litter: A Beast World System Tale novel Chapter 188

Chapter 188 Falling Weight

Marcus glanced down at his own bound body, the rope cutting into his chest and limbs where they pi him to the wooden post. The wound on his wrist had stopped bleeding without the aid of warm water. the hardened scab now pulled at his skin with every small movement, an uncomfortable tightness that

made him wince.

Rufus let out a dismissive snort.

“If it were only up to me, things would be simple enough. But Claire turned back for you. She came all way to Grimstone without a thought for her own safety.”

“What?”

Marcus couldn’t tell whether the feeling flooding his chest was joy or dread. But one thing was certain. Claire’s feelings for him had never been false.

He had willingly laid down his life to buy her a path to freedom. She had escaped safely, and yet she’d come back for him.

What had I ever done to deserve such devotion?

Tears spilled from the corners of his eyes and fell through the clouds, down toward the battlefield below

The plaza had become an arena.

Without the bicycle to keep them at bay, the beastfolk no longer feared Claire. One by one they shifted into their animal forms until every corner of the open space was packed with fur and fang and scale, all them staring toward the center of the circle with hostile intent.

Inside that ring, a small red fox shot through with faint traces of gold darted and spun, using her tiny frame and nimble limbs to slip past Finlay’s grasping claws again and again.

She had noticed it. His right forepaw was useless. Every attack came from his left side or his teeth. That single weakness was the only thing keeping her alive.

A massive claw swept past once more, close enough to shice several strands from her tail

r

“Damn it, you oversized rug! Keep this up and I’m gonna feast on your flesh to settle the score!

The fox yelped between short ragged breaths.

Claire was only Level 2. Against a peak Level 3 powerhouse like Finlay, survival itself had become a full- time occupation.

“Okay, that’s it. I’ve seen what a peak Level 3 looks like. Time to bring out the Gatling gunit

But the ammunition would not last forever, and the beastfolk surrounding her seemed endless. Once bullets ran dry, she would have nothing left.

She did not want to use it unless there was no other choice.

Chapter 188 Falling Weight

This was like two opponents trading blows. Whoever threw their strongest attack first usually lost

Every story worked that way. The one Backed into a corner always revealed their trump card first.

Who opened a fight by throwing everything they had?

Claire called out mentally,

“Davy? Little green snake? Your Majesty the Mighty Drake?”

No response, no matter how many times she called.

Pome’s small voice came back instead, hesitant.

“Master, he is asleep. Dead to the world.”

“Fuck!”

Claire swore under her breath.

Such an obedient companion. She was truly blessed.

She turned to the system instead.

“Pome.”

Then she stopped and thought better of it. “Never mind

She knew this broken system by now. It only showed its generosity when she produced offspring. The res of the time, it gave nothing.

She would have better luck asking the brown bear to bite her head off and get it over with.

While the fox scrambled for a solution, the brown bear launched himself into the air, his enormous shadow swallowing the ground beneath him. There was no time to run, no space to escape the shees breadth of his falling body.

Even if she pulled out the Gatling gun now, it would be too late.

He would crush her before she could fire a single shot..

Claire felt despair close in. She could not hide in her storage space. Her body would not go m

I should have used the Gatling gun earlier… Kill one and I would have broke even. Kill uw and I would come bar ahead.

The brown bear hit the ground with a thunderous impact that sent a cloud of dust roiling cuteNT choking the nearest beastfolk into coughing fits.

When the dust began to settle, they saw that the earth beneath Finlay had collapsed and a degi cast gouged into the plaza.

“That female has to be dead

Even the strongest male beastfolk would have been flattened into paste.

The crowd cheered, heaping praise on their lord’s overwhelming power.

But Finlay, still sprawled on the ground, frowned. Something felt wrong.

There was nothing beneath his belly. No give, no weight, no sense that he had crushed anything at all.

He shifted his bulk and peered into the crater. Nothing but broken stones and loose dirt. No trace of th female beastfolk.

“What… Could she have been crushed so completely that nothing’s left?”

A beastfolk muttered.

Someone beside him immediately elbowed him.

“Use your eyes. There’s not a drop of blood anywhere. She got away.”

“Impossible. Even I couldn’t dodge an attack from the city lord. How could she…?”

Unease rippled through the crowd. Who was this female, to escape unscathed from something like that?

The dust cleared further. A dozen yards from the crater, a massive silver wolf stood with his head lifted high. In his jaws, clamped gently around the scruff of a disheveled, dust streaked fox, he stared at Finlay with cold eyes.

The wolf opened his mouth and the fox dropped to the ground.

Claire scrambled to her feet in a single roll and rounded on Zane with exasperation.

“Could you not have put me down more gently?”

The wolf stood so tall that she might as well have fallen from a second story window, Lucky for her she was tough enough to survive the drop.
