Chapter 205 A Giant Bird Who Needed a Hug
“When I was giving birth, I kept thinking about how amazing you are. Out of 26 babies, 25 looked just like you. Rufus, your genes are seriously strong!”
Rufus tilted his head a little.
“Genes? What’s that?”
“Oh.” Claire made something up on the spot. “It just means strength. I’m saying you’re really impressive
She thought the compliment would cheer him up. She hated seeing Rufus like this, wrapped in sadness and acting so down. She missed the proud, confident Rufus who always acted like he could conquer the word.
But the second she said that, the giant bird beside her lowered his head even more. Even his feathery drooped. He looked completely defeated.
“What’s wrong? You don’t like being praised?”
“No.” Rufus answered in a low voice.
Then he peeked at Claire from the corner of his eye.
“You really think I’m impressive? You already have three mates now. Zane reaching Level 3 is one thing. He barely sleeps and spends all his time training. I respect that.”
His tone changed.
“But that pretty boy looks so young. He’s skinny and shorter than us, and even he reached Level 3, while L.. He still stuck at Level 2. There wasn’t even the slightest sign of a breakthrough.
Every time he thought about it, he felt he was useless.
Back in the clan, he had never suffered this kind of blow. He had always been the strongest warrior, admired by everyone around him.
Claire finally understood what had been bothering him.
To be fair, Zane was terrifyingly strong. Going from Level 0 to Level 3 in such a short time sounded unbelievable.
As for Marcus, he honestly wasn’t that short or skinny. Sure/he was a few inches shorter than Zane and Rufus, but those two were basically six-foot-three monsters. Marcus was still around six feet tall
His build wasn’t as huge as theirs, but he definitely had muscle. It just wasn’t as bulky as the other two
Marcus had the kind of lean body that looked slim under clothes but was surprisingly impressive once the layers came off
Mostly, though, Marcus was insanely talented. He had reached Level 3 at a young age without even trying
that hard.

Chapter 205 A Glant Bird Who Needed a Hug
So it made sense that Rufus felt insecure.
But Claire honestly didn’t care who was stronger or weaker.
She was just about to comfort him when Davy’s deep, honest voice suddenly echoed in her mind
“Yeah, being so old and still only Level 2 is pretty weak. Female, are you sure you don’t want to witch mates?”
Davy sounded very serious. “I’m Level 3 now, and I have evolved into a drake. I might be the only drake in the Beast World. I’m way stronger than this bird.”
When Claire didn’t answer, he continued listing his advantages.
“And I still kept the snake clan traits. I even have two big d-
“Stop! Stop right there!”
Claire shouted in her head, cutting him off before he could finish.
“Davy, has Pome been teaching you weird stuff again? Since when do you say things like that? And those awful descriptions too?”
“What’s wrong with that? Then how else am I supposed to say it-
Pome snickered shamelessly from the side. “Hehe… hehe…”
The laughter sounded unbelievably shady.
Claire immediately snapped back.
“Enough! See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil! Both of you go sit in timeout and reflect on yourselves!”
She quickly cut off contact with them. That way, Pome-the increasingly suspicious system-couldn’t spy on what she was doing anymore.
As for Davy, Claire directly tossed him-wrapped around her wrist-into the storage space. Without those two acting like giant surveillance cameras, the world suddenly felt much quieter.
Meanwhile, Rufus had gotten even more depressed from Claire’s long silence. The insecurity slowly swallowed him whole.
He couldn’t even blame her. He was just too weak. He didn’t deserve her.
Rufus’ mood sank lower and lower. Claire quickly noticed.
She hurried to smooth down his feathers. The white feathers with black speckles were glossy and soft, unbelievably nice to touch.
Of course, only if she stroked them the right way.
“You’re all my mates. In my heart, you’re equally important. You’re still my second mate Marcus comes after you.”

Chapter 205 A Glant Bird Who Needed a Hug
“You really won’t dislike me for only being Level 2?”
Finished
Rufus sounded awkward and insecure. He had always been proud and confident. Suddenly being outclassed by others hit him hard.
“Of course not! Did you forget? When we first met, you were already a famous Level 2 warrior that everyone admired. Even the fox clan’s chief wanted to suck up to you. Back then, I was just some skinnypittle nobody My clan disliked me, and I wasn’t pretty or impressive. But you never looked down on me. So why would look down on you now?”
Claire patiently comforted the giant bird who desperately wanted reassurance. She wrapped her arms around him. Even with both arms, she still couldn’t fully hug him. His long feathers felt as smooth as silk. and they carried a fresh pine scent that made her want to stay there forever.
