Chapter 206 Papa Zane and the Younglings
It smelled fresh and clean.

Rufus looked at the tiny female hugging him with all her strength. She even rubbed her face against his feathers. The dark mood hanging over him finally disappeared.
Claire really didn’t dislike him.
There was no better news than that.
He suddenly shifted back into human form, though he kept the wings on his back in case he needed them. He stretched his long arm and pulled Claire into his chest.
Then he plucked the longest and prettiest feather from the tip of his wing and tucked it into her hair,
Claire took it down to look at it. Her eyes lit up immediately.
“It’s so pretty, Rufus! Thank you! But… did that hurt? Will it make it harder for you to fly?”
Rufus instantly went back to his usual cocky self. He lifted his chin with a grin.
“What kind of male would be scared of a little pain? It’ll grow back in a couple days. I’m the ruler of the skies. There’s no way one tiny feather could slow me down.”
Claire laughed and nodded.
“Right, right. You’re the greatest bird ever.”
Her fingers moved quickly through her long hair. In only a few seconds, she twisted it into a bun, leaving two loose strands dancing in the breeze beside her cheeks.
Then she slid the feather into her hair and tilted her head up at him/
“How do I look?”
“Beautiful. Really beautiful.”
Rufus held her face gently. Her tiny face was smooth and pale, barely the size of his palm. Her eyes looked bright and watery, and her soft pink lips were impossible to ignore. He wanted to kiss her.
So he did.
Claire stayed wrapped in Rufus’s arms, their bodies pressed tightly together. Heat passed between them as they kissed again and again, neither willing to pull away.
The golden lake shimmered under the setting sun. A soft breeze brushed past them, as if the whole world were watching their fiery feelings unfold.
Not far away in the woods, Zane placed the little boar he had just hunted onto the ground and used the lighter Claire gave him to start a fire.

Chapter 206 Papa Zane and the Younglings
“Claire’s lighter really is amazing. I’ve used it so many times, and it still works. That’s incredible.”
He carefully tucked the lighter back into his fur tunic. Claire had given it to him back in the fox clan, so of course he treasured it.
If it weren’t getting late and too dark to start a fire the old-fashioned way, he wouldn’t even want to use it.
As soon as the fire started crackling, the cold around him faded, replaced by warmth.
Zane soon caught Marcus’s scent getting closer. Mixed in with it was the smell of younglings. Marcus wa back. Zane quickly placed a ring of stones around the fire so none of the little ones would accidentally ill in.
Long before Marcus even arrived, Zane could already hear the tiny whining noises of the younglings.
A giant panda, towering like a tree, slowly emerged from the woods as the scents approached.
Its broad back was packed with younglings. Two more dangled gently from its mouth, their little limbs hanging limp as they tucked in their necks. They looked pitiful and obedient.
More than a dozen younglings ran behind him on the ground. Some were black and white, some gray and round like little balls. There were fox cubs too. Most of them were black and white, while a few had yellow or red fur.
Zane knew the giant panda was Marcus’s beast form, but the number of younglings still shocked him.
“All of these are yours?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Marcus quickly set the younglings in his mouth down and nodded.
One of them was a scarlet-gold fox cub. The other was a chubby gray panda cub. The second their paws touched the ground, both of them took off running toward the fire.
“Careful!” Zane called out in surprise.
He thought those two were supposed to be the quiet and well-behaved ones. Who knew they’d turn wild the moment they were free?
The scarlet-gold fox cub and gray panda cub chased each other around the fire at top speed, their tiny feet moving so fast they almost blurred.
Luckily, they were quick but steady. Neither of them fell into the fire.
Of course, the stones Zane placed around it helped a lot.
The rest of the younglings were much calmer. They stayed close to the giant panda while secretly peeking at
Zane
Marcus lowered all the younglings from his back, then shifted back into human form. Pointing at Zane, he introduced him to the children.

Chapter 206 Papa Zane and the Younglings
“This is your mother’s first mate. You can call him Papa Zane. Be good and listen to him, okay?”
The younglings looked at Marcus, then at Zane. The two troublemakers immediately ran over to Zane and started climbing his legs with all four paws.
Their tiny claws left faint marks on Zane’s pale bare legs.
Zane only smiled at them and didn’t stop them.
The other younglings grew braver after seeing that. They crowded around Zane’s feet, sniffing him over a over, trying to remember his scent.
“With this many younglings, Claire must’ve suffered a lot giving birth to them.”
Zane’s voice softened with concern.
Back when Claire gave birth, he had stood outside Marcus’s house for a long time. But he never imagined there would be this many. Just looking at them made his head spin.
Marcus nodded.
“Yeah. Claire’s the strongest female I’ve ever heard of. Even I didn’t expect her to carry so many.” He grinned proudly. “There are 51 in total.”
