Chapter 228 Jeffrey’s Return
Claire wondered if drake horns worked like deer antlers. Maybe they could boost energy or man performance in bed.

She quickly shook her head. What was she even thinking? Davy was still so tiny. Even if she shaved off his little horns, there wouldn’t be enough to chew on. At the very least, he’d have to grow up first.
The moment the thought crossed her mind, she silently judged herself. She was getting way too greedy.
Right now, Davy had already secured the spot as her fourth beast mate: All that was left was the bonding ceremony. How could she think about him like that?
At the thought of bonding, Claire looked up at Rufus, who was carrying her in his arms.
His jaw was sharp and strong, like it had been carved from stone. Honestly, his jawline was clearer than her entire life plan.
But right now, Rufus looked anxious. He kept searching around nonstop.
“Dang it! Is there really not a single decent cave around here?”
After searching for a long time, Rufus felt like he was about to explode from frustration. In the end, he set Claire down on a tree branch and rushed into the only cave nearby, kicking out the bear dad, bear mom, and their cub.
The poor bear family had no choice but to spend the night outside in the woods.
Inside the cave, Rufus carefully cleaned everything again, making sure there wasn’t even the faintest smell left behind.
As he worked hard cleaning, he couldn’t stop imagining what was about to happen later.
Up on the tall tree branch, Claire swung her legs while pulling Davy out from around her wrist.
“Listen carefully. When I’m sleeping with Rufus tonight, you are absolutely not allowed to use your mid- reading ability. And don’t you dare peek nearby either,”
Davy nodded obediently, then looked at her hopefully.
“So when’s my turn? We can mate tonight too. He can have the first half, and I’ll rake the second.
Claire poked his little head with her finger.
“You little troublemaker, you’re unbelievable. Are you trying to kill me or what?
Just dealing with Rufus alone was already more than enough for her.
Pome sounded way too cheerfid as he cut in
“Master, technically, you could take healing pills in the middle

“Okay, that’s enough from you. Back to timeout.”
Without hesitation, Claire cut off Pome completely.
She placed Davy on the tree branch and urged him to leave quickly.
Just as Davy was about to go, he suddenly turned back around. He lifted the front half of his body and looked at Claire seriously.
“Oh right. We argued this morning, so I forgot to tell you something. I think Jeffrey showed up last nigh
Claire froze so suddenly she nearly slipped off the branch.
“W-what did you just say? Jeffrey?”
Davy nodded seriously and tried to remember.
“Last night, while you were asleep on the grass, a snake with a damaged tail tried to crawl onto you while Rufus was away. I scared him off.”
“A damaged tail? Are you sure it was Jeffrey? Aren’t you brothers from the same clan? You should recognize his beast form better than anyone. Was it really him?”
She clearly remembered Jeffrey being a king cobra beastfolk. His snake form was long and complete. How could he suddenly have a damaged tail?
“You probably saw wrong. If it really was Jeffrey, there’s no way you wouldn’t recognize him by either his form or his scent.”
Davy tilted his little head and thought hard for a long time before finally saying three words.
“I don’t know.”
Claire was about to explode: Davy quickly added, “The scent was weird. Kind of similar, but kind of different. And honestly, a lot of snake beastfolk look alike. I only saw him for a few seconds before he ran off. I chased after him and searched all night, but I found nothing.”
Claire thought about Jeffrey’s cruel, vicious face.
If he was still alive, hiding somewhere in the shadows, silently crawling through the darkness. Her whole body went weak. She leaned heavily against the tree trunk.
“What am I supposed to do? If it really is Jeffrey, he’ll definitely try to kill me.”
She had blown away half his body. She had no idea how he survived something that should have killed him instantly. But one thing was certain. He would never let her gan
Davy slithered over beside her and looked up at her
“Don’t be scared! Did you forget I’m a drake! As long as I’m here, he won’t dare vach you. Though honestly, the best solution is for us to mate soon. Once you carry my spent, he’ll give ups

Maybe Jeffrey was hiding inside one of those shadows right now, staring at her with murderous eyes.
A chill ran through her body. Goosebumps instantly spread across her arms. She rubbed them hard, trying to calm herself down.
What was she supposed to do after being targeted by a poisonous snake?
Davy tried to comfort her. “You don’t have to be this scared. Maybe… maybe I really was mistaken.
But deep down, he knew there was a very good chance he had not been mistaken at all. That snake was Jeffrey.
Below them, rustling noises suddenly came from the cave, followed by Rufus shouting excitedly.
“Claire! Just wait a little longer! I’m almost done cleaning!”
Even though this wasn’t their first time together, Rufus still acted like an excited groom preparing for his wedding night.
