Chapter 229 Moonlight in the Cave

That voice eased some of Claire’s fear.

She wasn’t alone anymore. She had Zane, Rufus, Marcus, and now Davy too. Four beast mates. Couldn’t the four of them handle one badly injured Jeffrey?

Thinking of those dependable men nearby, Claire suddenly felt silly for worrying so much.

She shook her head.

“Forget it. No point stressing about Jeffrey.”

Worrying wouldn’t solve anything. You could guard against danger for a day, maybe ten, but not forever. If Jeffrey really came after them again, then they would deal with it when the time came. Worst case, they would fight him head-on.

A moment later, Rufus flew out of the cave and stopped beside the tree branch where Claire sat.

Under the moonlight, his eyes gleamed brightly. His lips curled into a grin, showing straight white teeth. His bronze skin looked even darker in the night, making the muscles across his body stand out more clearly.

Behind him stretched a pair of giant wings nearly 18 feet wide. White feathers lined the wings neatly, scattered with black spots like stars in the sky.
