Chapter 269 Siblings
“Did she mention how to neutralize the poison?” Zane looked at his youngling, his chest tightening with
worry.
Claire laid Zane Six on the wooden bed, then took out the fur scroll the healer had given her before she died and searched it carefully. A moment later, she cried out in delight, “Found it!”
Zane took the scroll she handed him and examined it, but he couldn’t make much sense of it. It only showed drawings of various flowers and herbs. One was the evening primrose Claire had described in t lynx clan, but Zane didn’t recognize any of the others.
“First, we need to bring Six’s fever down.”
Claire made the decision immediately. She poured some warm spring water from her storage space an held it to the unconscious Zane Six’s mouth.
Zane Six seemed to sense the water and stuck out his little tongue to lap up a few drops.
The moment he pulled his tongue back in, Claire quickly slipped a healing pill into his mouth.
The pill dissolved instantly, and the convulsions racking Zane Six’s small body visibly eased.
“Zane, stay here and take care of Six. Give him plenty of water. I’m going to find Kieran.”
She was still missing two of the herbs she needed. Perhaps the eagle clan’s healer had them.
Claire looked down from the high tree house and frowned. She took a long hemp rope out of her storag space, tied several knots along its length, secured one end to a branch beside the tree house, and lowered the other end to the ground.
Holding the rope and stepping on the knots, she quickly climbed down.
The moment the younglings saw her, they hurried over. “Mom, how is Six?”
“We’re so worried about him!”
Claire hugged them and reassured them, “Don’t worry. Once he takes his medicine, he’ll wake up
soon!
Remembering that she still had to find Kieran, Claire left the younglings with Marcus.
Kieran was speaking with several eagle clan beastfolk. When he saw Claire approaching, he hurriedly said a few final words to them and came over to meet her.
“How is Six?”
Claire shook her head. “He has a high fever. I think he’s been poisoned.”
“Poisoned? Our clan’s healer didn’t notice anything!” Kieran frowned. Their healer was extremely skilled, yet he hadn’t even realized Zane Six had been poisoned.
“Yes. I happen to know how to treat it, but I’m missing two herbs. I hope you can take me to the healer so I

tan ask whether the clan has them.”
Kieran was already overwhelmed with guilt, so he immediately agreed.
“Alright. Come with me. I’ll take you to the healer.”
Claire followed Kieran at a brisk pace.

Eva watched Claire disappear into the distance, deeply worried. But Matilda had told her not to run around, so she had no choice but to stay where she was, without even a chance to help.
When she saw Marcus lying on the ground and trying to remove the fur pouches from his back, she quickly ran over to help him.
Marcus’s younglings poked their heads out of the fur pouches and looked around curiously.
Zane’s younglings were much larger. They now stood in a neat row, their little heads all turned toward the newly arrived, smaller younglings.
Zane Eleven barked clumsily at the younglings across from him and asked, “Who are you? Why do you smell like our mom?”
The round panda younglings tumbled out of the fur pouches, followed by a group of even smaller fox beastlings.
Zane Eleven jumped in surprise.
“Whoa, why are there so many?”
The other side clearly had far more younglings than they did. They had already lost when it came to numbers.
Scarlet, the nine-tailed red fox, walked forward with all nine tails swaying in different directions. He pawed at one of the black-and-white younglings, then looked up at Marcus, who was resting on the ground.
Marcus looked lazy, his round head resting on his front paws he listened closely to the younglings.
Scarlet nodded with the solemn air of an adult and said, “Mm, they look exactly alike. That big one must be the father of these little ones.”
Zane Eleven had already been surrounded by the younger younglings. They yipped excitedly and tried to grab his legs.
“Whoa, that was close! The enemy almost got me!”
Zane Eleven flapped his tiny wings and lifted himself into the air. He wasn’t far off the ground, but the little younglings could no longer reach him.
He flew around smugly, showing off as he deliberately tempted the younglings below to catch him, only to rise higher whenever they jumped.
Two white foxes and one white wolf huddled together and whispered. “I bet these little ones are the younglings Mom just had. That means they should be our younger brothers and sisters!

“Really? I’m a big sister now! That’s great! I’m going to play with them!”
“Me too!”
A dozen or so of the larger younglings lined up in front of the tiny ones, who otdy reached their lower legs, and said, “Hey, kids, I’m your big brother!”
“And I’m your big sister! I’ll give you meat!”
Scarlet rolled his eyes and said helplessly, “These younglings can only yip. They can’t talk yet. What do you expect them to say?”
The older younglings immediately drooped in disappointment.

“I do. All the red ones are mine!”
Before long, Zane’s younglings had divided all 51 little younglings among themselves. About five tiny bundles followed behind each of the larger younglings, waddling after them in an adorable line.
When Marcus heard that the two groups weren’t fighting, he finally relaxed and drifted off to sleep. Eva crouched beside the younglings with her chin propped in both hands, watching them enviously. “You found your own friends so quickly! I’m so bored!”
She glanced at the eagle clan beastfolk hiding behind the trees in the distance. They had been watching the whole time, but none of them dared approach. Otherwise, she might have been able to make a few friends too.
Burrow patted her shoulder.
now “Don’t worry. We’ll probably be living here from now on. You’ll have plenty of time to make friends.”
Eva’s eyes lit up, and she became hopeful again.
Just then, a slender female beastfolk dragged Quentin over at a brisk pace.
“Quentin, didn’t you say Claire was back? Hurry and take me to her! I have something important to tell her right away.”
Quentin sounded helpless, though his tone held a hint of indulgence.
“Alright, alright. I’ll go with you. Tyne, are you really that close to Claire?”
“Of course!”
Eva had already overheard them. When she looked up, they had arrived right in front of her.
Tyne was a small, slender female who looked slightly older than Eva. Her round eyes made her seem kind at first glance.
Eva immediately became interested and ran over to introduce herself.
“Hi, I’m Eva. Are you looking for Claire? You’re too late. She was just here!”
