Chapter 287 The Silent Watcher
“Yeah! Daddy Marcus, I want more! One more portion!”
Fishe
Zane had already made extra food. He set another full bowl in front of Zane Six, gently rubbed his head, and reminded him,
“Slow down. You lost a lot of weight when you were sick. Your stomach isn’t ready for that much food yet. Don’t make yourself sick.”
Zane Six didn’t even look up. He kept stuffing grilled beast meat into his mouth.
He answered in between bites. “Mm–hmm, I know, Daddy! Your grilled beast meat is so good!”
His cooking is way better than Aurora’s!
Watching the little boy’s belly get rounder and rounder, Zane felt some of the guilt in his heart fade away.
Scarlet looked up at Marcus in confusion.
“Daddy Marcus, it’s still early. The sun hasn’t even set yet. Are we really going to bed already?”
Marcus nodded with a serious face.
“Going to bed early and waking up early is good for you. You’re still growing. The more sleep you get, the bigger and stronger you’ll become–just like your daddy, Got it?”
Scarlet nodded obediently. “Got it.”
Marcus smiled in satisfaction. Out of all of Zane’s younglings, Scarlet was definitely the smartest. She always understood things so quickly.
Claire looked at Marcus curiously. The moment she set down her bowl, he grabbed her hand and led her
away.
“Claire, I know a waterfall in the clan. It’s an amazing place to take a bath.”
Her eyes lit up with interest. She hadn’t even known there was a waterfall here.
Then again, she hadn’t explored even half of the eagle clan’s territory yet.
Marcus often took the younglings out for walks, so he knew the area much better than she did.
The two of them headed toward the cliffs on the eastern side. As they followed the rocky edge, the roar of rushing water soon reached their ears.
A ribbon of silver water poured down the cliff from high above. It crashed into a deep pool below before winding its way out of the eagle clan through the mountains.
The moment Claire saw it, one thought flashed through her mind.
It looked like a shimmering river falling from the sky,

The view was every bit as breathtaking as the way she described it.
As they got closer to the waterfall, the roar grew louder and louder.
Claire could barely hear what Marcus was saying. She only saw his lips moving, so she leaned closer.
“Claire, go wash by yourself. I’ll stay here and keep watch.
She looked at him in surprise.
Was Marcus actually giving up such a perfect chance to be close to her?
The old Marcus wouldn’t have left even if she had chased him away.
He would have insisted on bathing with her.
That was definitely unusual.
Claire didn’t think much of it. She slipped off her fur tunic and walked beneath the waterfall alone.
The heavy stream crashed onto her shoulders, kneading away the tension in her muscles. The churning water wrapped around her body, and she felt every pore open as she enjoyed the refreshing shower.
It was her first time finding a waterfall like this in the Beast World.
Large rocks lined the edge of the deep blue pool. They looked as if the clan folks had arranged them on purpose so the female could sit and relax.
Since it was already evening, Claire had the place all to herself.
She sat comfortably on one of the rocks. Her long hair spread across the water, drifting gently like strands of river grass.
Her graceful figure shimmered beneath the surface. No one would have guessed she had already given birth to three litters of pups.
Marcus listened carefully to the surroundings. The crashing water was loud, and his hearing was far sharper than most, so he stayed a moderate distance away. From there, he could keep track of Claire without overwhelming his sensitive ears.
He had learned about this waterfall from other beastfolk during one of his walks.
The moment he heard about it, he knew Claire would love this place.
Her cheerful laughter proved he had been right.
Marcus fought down the desire stirring inside him. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to bathe with Claire. He was worried that if he stepped into the water with her, he wouldn’t be able to control himself and would ruin the plan.
Tonight was important.
