Chapter 295 The Missing Snake and the Stolen Shedding
Finishen
Claire looked down at her hands. They were soft and fair, but now a few red scrapes marked her skin from climbing the tree.
If she still had the hands from her previous life, things would have been different. Those hands had been rough and weathered from years of housework. No amount of hand cream had ever softened them.
Hands like those would never have gotten scraped from climbing a tree only about 165 feet tall.
Life in the Beast World had made her a little spoiled.
Claire said casually, “A 165–foot tree isn’t that hard for me. Don’t mistake me for some helpless woman. like relying on my beast mates, but that doesn’t mean I can’t take care of myself.”
With that, she jumped off the nest.
For some reason, Corvin, who was always calm and distant, felt his heart skip a beat. Startled, he quickly leaned over in panic.
Claire landed perfectly on the branch below. Then she moved lightly from branch to branch. But the lower half of the tree had no branches at all.
Without the slightest panic, Claire pulled out a rope. She tied one end tightly around the branch beneath her feet and tossed the other end down.
With a few quick loops, the rope wrapped securely around her thigh and one arm. Then she slowly lowered herself to the ground.
The rope burned against her palms. She gritted her teeth through the pain, but she reached the ground safely.
Looking up, she caught sight of Corvin jerking his head back into the nest.
“Hmph. He was obviously worried about me. The second I noticed him, he hid. Corvin really is an
introvert.”
She muttered to herself as she walked toward the outer area of the clan.
The same two strong beastfolk guards were standing watch on either side of the gate.
Claire took two water skins out of her storage space and handed one to each of them.
‘The guards trusted her completely. Without a second thought, they accepted them and drank every last
drop.
“Thanks, Claire! We’ve been standing guard here since yesterday. We were dying of thirst.”
Claire waved her hand and refused to take the water skins back.
“Keep them. They’ll make it easier to carry water while you’re on guard.”
The two guards exchanged a glance before happily accepting the gift.

Only then did Claire ask, “Did either of you happen to see a little snake leave the clan last night? Don’t worry, it’s not a real snake. He’s not a rogue beastfolk. His beast form just happens to look like one.”
A
She carefully described Davy.
“He’s bright green, about as thick as a thumb, and pretty short. Oh, and he has a pair of tiny horns on top of his head. Have you seen him?”
The two guards thought hard but eventually shook their heads.
Neither of them remembered seeing a little snake like that.
Disappointed, Claire turned and walked back to the treehouse.
She still hoped Davy might have returned by the time she got home.
But he hadn’t.
Feeling frustrated, Claire lay helplessly on the roof of the treehouse. Through the branches above, she watched patches of sunlight shimmer between the leaves.
Meanwhile, outside the clan, Davy found himself surrounded by a huge crowd of snakes.
His eyes landed on a beautiful naked woman standing among the writhing mass of snakes. She wore a charming smile, her red lips curled with confidence. The sight made the hair on the back of Davy’s neck stand up.
“Oh, come on! I should’ve stayed home!”
The night before, he had been so excited about finally bonding with his chosen mate. Then he suddenly realized he owned almost nothing–not even a simple fur blanket.
Not wanting her to go without, he remembered the snake skins he had shed before evolving into a dragon.
“Snake skins make the softest clothing. If I give them to my little female, she’ll love them.”
Among snake beastfolk, giving a shed skin to a mate during their bonding was also a traditional gift.
So Davy quietly slipped out of the eagle clan without anyone noticing.
Following the route he remembered, he returned to the hot spring where he had once lived. Inside the cave, he had stored every shed skin he had ever kept.
But when he arrived, everything was gone.
He understood why the hot spring and the Ember Fruit tree had disappeared. Claire had stored them in her storage space. In the place where the spring used to be, only a small pool of water remained, much smaller than before.
His cave was completely empty.
“If I find out who took my snake skins, they’re going to regret it!”
