Davy put on a stern face and said sulkily, “Zane and the others always carried you before. I want to carry you too!”

When Davy lifted her up with one arm and sat her on one of his shoulders, Claire suddenly realized the feeling was actually pretty nice.

Sunlight filtered through the trees, birds sang, insects chirped, and laughter suddenly echoed through the peaceful forest.

“Eva, does your Burrow even like me or not? Does he want to be my third beast mate? I only have two beast mates right now. If he doesn’t hurry up, he’ll have to get in line behind the others.”

Eva’s sweet voice replied, “You should ask Burrow that! You’re not going to stop being my friend just because of this, are you?”

Claire swung her feet and urged Davy to follow the voices.

Soon they arrived at an open clearing. The trees that had once grown there had been cut down into stumps, and several wooden stools had been placed around them.

“Yeah! He’s so tall! And so muscular! I feel like one punch from him could send me flying!”

As the distance between them grew shorter, the group finally stopped whispering and followed Eva as they all looked toward Claire and Davy.

Claire gently nudged Davy’s chest with her foot, signaling him to put her down.

Davy hesitated for a moment, but obediently lowered her to the ground.

Eva rushed over and grabbed both of Claire’s hands. “Claire, what brought you over here today? You’ve been so busy!”

Warmth filled Claire’s eyes as she gently patted Eva’s head. Whenever she was with Eva, Claire always felt like an older sister.

Even though she was only seventeen herself!

She smiled and said, “I brought my new beast mate to look around. His name’s Davy.”

The moment she said that, Davy instinctively straightened his chest. He stared straight ahead without looking around, but his ears perked up as he listened intently to how Claire would praise him.
